While its exact history is shrouded in mystery, the embrace of April Fools’ Day jokes by the media and major brands has ensured the unofficial holiday’s long life.

Shurk: Let’s Celebrate the Federal Government on April Fools’ Day
Let’s celebrate the federal government every April Fools’ Day. How fitting a holiday to toast a byzantine, irresponsible, and largely untouchable system of red-tape rule-makers and above-the-law actors who do little for the American people other than overpromise, underperform, and charge a hundred times more than they’re worth for the service. This is a bureaucratic leviathan so corrupt that it requires a cottage industry of lobbyists to enrich the “public servants,” so unserious in its missions that it can’t finish one war before starting the next, so anti-American in its sentiments that it routinely proclaims its citizens the most villainous racists and rubes on Earth, and so incompetent in executing its long-term strategies that its reckless spending of borrowed monies has pushed the dollar to the brink of collapse. What profligate, vain, sanctimonious fools have permanently taken over the national government. What morally vacuous scoundrels and scolds have taken up residence where giants of intellect and great defenders of freedom once stood. How craven yet supercilious are these embarrassing Marie Antionettes who bask in their own illusory superiority while nonchalantly declaring that men are now women, that fear of death justifies destroying daily life, that face masks magically prove one’s virtue, and that all “free” Americans must now bow down before the state’s false religion of the woke and perpetually aggrieved. Caligula had nothing on the current crop of poseurs and pretenders who rule Americans through fear while doing absolutely nothing for America. The least we can do is reserve one day on the calendar for recognizing how foolish our leaders truly are, for it’s clear that the federal government takes us all for fools 365 days a year.

Americans privately fear these rules, while publicly appearing to accept them. here are 10 new ideas that are changing America, maybe permanently. 1) Money is a construct. It can be created from thin air. Annual deficits and aggregate national debt no longer matter much. Prior presidents ran up huge annual deficits. But at least there were some concessions that the money was real and had to be paid back. Not now. As we near $30 trillion in national debt and 110 percent of annual GDP, our elites either believe permanent zero interest rates make the cascading obligation irrelevant, or the larger the debt, the more likely we will be forced to address needed income redistribution. 2) Laws are not necessarily binding anymore. Joe Biden took an oath to “take care that the laws be faithfully executed.” But he has willfully rendered federal immigration laws null and void. Some rioters are prosecuted for violating federal laws, others not so much. Arrests, prosecutions, and trials are all fluid. Ideology governs when a law is still considered a law. Crime rates do not necessarily matter. If someone is carjacked, assaulted, or shot, it can be understood to be as much his fault as the perpetrator’s. Either the victim was too lax, uncaring, and insensitive, or he provoked his attacker. How useful the crime is to the larger agendas of the Left determines whether a victim is really a victim, and the victimizer really a victimizer. 3) Racialism is now acceptable. The Democrats’ response to any attempts by state legislatures to ensure integrity in their states’ elections is to cry “racism” and “Jim Crow.” Georgia’s new voting law, entitled the “Election Integrity Act of 2021,” has become the Democrats’ favorite punching bag. They are twisting the truth about the law to bolster their case for stripping the states of their constitutional authority to determine the times, places, and manner of conducting elections within their own jurisdictions. […] Businesses are being pressured to strongly protest Georgia’s new voting law. The CEO of Delta Airlines, which is based in Atlanta, got the message. He said that the “entire rationale” for the law is “based on a lie.” It is the branding of Georgia’s new law as “Jim Crow” that is the real lie. At least three lawsuits have been filed against Georgia’s Election Integrity Act. One of the complaints filed in federal court called it the “Voter Suppression Bill.” The only thing that Georgia’s new law suppresses is cheating. Pollak: Biden Infrastructure Plan Erodes ‘Right-to-Work’ Laws, Includes ‘Card Check’
A provision of President Joe Biden’s proposed $2.3 trillion infrastructure plan, the American Jobs Plan, would erode “right-to-work” laws in states that do not force workers to join a union, and would include a controversial “card check” system. As described by the White House, the plan will “promote union organizing and collective bargaining,” in part through the “Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act,” a Democrat bill that passed the House of Representatives earlier this year. […] “Card check” does away with the secret ballot, and it could allow union organizers to intimidate workers — which is why even former Democratic Party presidential nominee George McGovern opposed the idea in 2008. Then as now, Democrats claimed they were helping workers’ rights, calling “card check” the “Employee Free Choice Act.” […] As Fox Business notes, the PRO Act also includes a provision that reclassifies many independent contractors as employees. That repeats the policy enacted by California’s Democrat-dominated legislature in 2019 in AB 5, which caused havoc in the “gig economy,” including ride-sharing companies. Female workers who prefer more flexible schedules were particularly badly affected.

Mee: H.R. 1: It’s Worse Than You Think
“…and for other purposes” seems to be included in the titles of so many bills these days that it’s always enlightening to dig a little deeper, past a bill’s obvious provisions. In the case of H.R. 1 — the 2021 Omnibus Federal Electoral Fraud Enhancement Act — the revelations are pretty scary. They’re intended to drive from politics people Democrats don’t like and to consolidate in Congressional hands information that violates the Separation of Powers doctrine or the Bill of Rights. Others have spoken forcefully about the bill’s proposed unjust and ruinous changes to the Federal Election Commission, campaign finance reforms, and general election processes. Today, let’s see what the last 100 or so pages of this nearly 900-page bill bring us. This is where all the “other purposes” are hiding and they’re as bad as the rest of the bill.
