Nitzberg: Virginia is reportedly moving to drop accelerated math education prior to 11th grade
n initiative by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) would nix accelerated math options for students before they reach 11th grade, according to Loudoun County school board member Ian Serotkin. Serotkin wrote in a Facebook post that “we received a briefing from staff on the Virginia Mathematics Pathways Initiative (VMPI), a sweeping initiative by the Virginia Department of Education to revamp the K-12 math curriculum statewide over the next few years.” He went on to sound the alarm that “as currently planned, this initiative will eliminate ALL math acceleration prior to 11th grade. That is not an exaggeration, . . . […] A website about the initiative states that it will “Improve equity in mathematics learning opportunities.”

Rufo: Standing Against Critical Race Theory
Conservatives and non-woke liberals must draw a line in the sand against racialized indoctrination. In September 2020, then-President Donald Trump signed an executive order banning federal agencies and contractors from conducting training sessions based on critical race theory. Specifically, the order banned “race or sex stereotyping,” “race or sex scapegoating,” and teaching that “an individual’s moral character is necessarily determined by his or her race or sex.” In short, the executive order made sure that all training sessions complied with the basic framework of the Civil Rights Act of 1964: there is no place for racism in the federal government. In a healthy society, this would be uncontroversial. […] This week the federal Department of Education announced plans to distribute grants to public schools that agree to implement CRT-influenced pedagogy that stresses “racially, ethnically, culturally, and linguistically responsive teaching and learning practices,” which “contribute to what has been called an ‘identity-safe’ learning environment.

Critical race theory is fast becoming America’s new institutional orthodoxy. Yet most Americans have never heard of it—and of those who have, many don’t understand it. This must change. We need to know what it is so we can know how to fight it. […] In contrast to equality, equity as defined and promoted by critical race theorists is little more than reformulated Marxism. In the name of equity, UCLA law professor and critical race theorist Cheryl Harris has proposed suspending private property rights, seizing land and wealth, and redistributing them along racial lines. Critical race guru Ibram X. Kendi, who directs the Center for Antiracist Research at Boston University, has proposed the creation of a federal Department of Antiracism. This department would be independent of (i.e., unaccountable to) the elected branches of government, and would have the power to nullify, veto, or abolish any law at any level of government and curtail the speech of political leaders and others deemed insufficiently “antiracist.” One practical result of the creation of such a department would be the overthrow of capitalism, since, according to Kendi, “In order to truly be antiracist, you also have to truly be anti-capitalist.” In other words, identity is the means; Marxism is the end. .” […] An equity-based form of government would mean the end not only of private property but also of individual rights, equality under the law, federalism, and freedom of speech. These would be replaced by . . . […] What does critical race theory look like in practice? […] So far, attempts to halt the encroachment of critical race theory have been ineffective. There are a number of reasons for this. […] There are three parts to a successful strategy to defeat the forces of critical race theory: governmental action, grassroots mobilization, and an appeal to principle.

State-packing, like court-packing, is a fairly obvious gimmick for creating a permanent Democrat majority by rigging the rules. If the Democrats really wanted representation for D.C. residents, they would urge retrocession to Maryland. […] If the Democrats really insist that D.C. statehood is the only answer, then they can trade for splitting California in half. Or allowing those parts of Oregon that are conservative and American to become their own state. There are numerous such options on the table for conservative parts of states trapped in a system dominated by Democrat bloc votes run out of urban areas.

[…] Here is a partial list of words and phrases that have been butchered by the left to retain — and gain — power: Immigration The most recent dystopian dictate from Biden/Harris is the order to Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Patrol to cease using the terms “alien,” “illegal alien,” and “assimilation.” Those words will be replaced with “noncitizen or migrant,” “undocumented,” and “integration,” respectively. CBP’s head explained, “We enforce our nation’s laws while also maintaining the dignity of every individual with whom we interact. The words we use matter and will serve to further confer that dignity to those in our custody.” No, they do not enforce our nation’s laws. If they did, our borders would be closed rather than having tens of thousands of illegal immigrants crossing it. And while words matter, the majority of those flocking into the country don’t speak English, so this Orwellian decree is meant for U.S. consumption, not the “dignity” of illegal aliens. This is reminiscent of the insanity of the Obama administration . ..
