In a gushing portrait, Vogue portrayed Fauci and Grady as “a medical power couple leading the fight against the virus.” But taxpayers might not be so effusive about Mr. and Mrs. Fauci’s “international research ethics,” and “study design,” now that America’s economy and liberties have been destroyed by the Chinese virus they funded. Why was Grady ever placed in a position at the NIH, where she was the final arbiter of the ethics of her husband’s experiments? If Fauci wanted to study gain-of-function research on lethal viruses, did he just need to roll over in bed and say, “Honey, is this OK?” to obtain “ethical” permission?

Singman: Sen. Rick Scott rolls out legislation to prohibit TSA from requiring proof of COVID vaccines for travelers
The bill, the “Freedom to Fly Act,” would also prohibit TSA workers from requiring American travelers to produce a passport for domestic flight to protect the privacy of personal health information. Scott’s legislation says that the TSA “may not prescribe or implement any regulation or policy that would allow employees” to “request information relating to vaccinations from any passenger traveling on a flight between states or territories or possessions of the United States.”

Brown: Gov. Ron DeSantis Promises To Oppose Any FL School Board Candidates Who Support Critical Race Theory
During an interview that aired Saturday night on “Unfiltered with Dan Bongino,” DeSantis promised to aim his “political apparatus” against any Republican school board candidate who supports either critical race theory or mandatory masking for schoolchildren. “Next week, I have my Commissioner of Education going to the Board of Education banning it, banning any departure from accurate history and following our standards,” DeSantis told Bongino regarding critical race theory. “This is something we’ve got to stay on the forefront of.”

This news is especially timely on the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre. George H.W. Bush could have responded by dumping China’s Most Favored Nation trade status and cut off the monster’s head before it had devoured us whole. Instead, he kept things going. Communist China gutted our economy and society. Without those trade deals, we would likely not be in the mess that we are in. So the news is timely, but not especially surprising because what other possible function could the George H.W. Bush Foundation for U.S.-China Relations really have? Organizations for relations between the US and Country X largely exist to lobby for ties with that country. A lot of the time this is perfectly inoffensive, but it’s rather different when the ties are with our worst enemies.

The right to vote is fundamental to our American democracy and protecting that right should not be about party or politics. Least of all, protecting this right, which is a value I share, should never be done in a partisan manner. Unfortunately, we now are witnessing that the fundamental right to vote has itself become overtly politicized. Today’s debate about how to best protect our right to vote and to hold elections, however, is not about finding common ground, but seeking partisan advantage. Whether it is state laws that seek to needlessly restrict voting or politicians who ignore the need to secure our elections, partisan policymaking won’t instill confidence in our democracy — it will destroy it. […] some Democrats have again proposed eliminating the Senate filibuster rule in order to pass the For the People Act with only Democratic support. They’ve attempted to demonize the filibuster and conveniently ignore how it has been critical to protecting the rights of Democrats in the past.

DOJ Montana: Two More States Join AG Knudsen’s Keystone XL Lawsuit Against Biden Administration
Two more state attorneys general joined the lawsuit against President Joe Biden’s unconstitutional cancelation of the Keystone XL Pipeline, Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen announced today. The lawsuit, led by Montana and Texas, seeks to have portions of Executive Order 13990 cancelling KXPL’s cross-border permit declared unconstitutional and unlawful and seeks to prevent the Biden administration from taking any action to enforce the permit revocation. Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody and Alaska Attorney General Treg Taylor joined an amended complaint filed today in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. The total number of states represented in the suit against Biden and his administration now stands at 23. The Saskatchewan government also said it recently it would be filing an amicus brief in support of the states’ lawsuit.

Clark: Update: Oregon School Board Shoots Down BLM, Pride Flag Requirement, Progressive Board Member Goes On Tirade
On May 6, the Gresham-Barlow School Board updated the district’s “Flag Displays and Salutes” policy to require that the school board provide an American flag, pride flag, and BLM flag for each classroom. The policy gained virtually no support among board members. Just two of the board’s most progressive members voted in favor of the revised policy. Robyn Stowers, a school board member in favor of the flag policy, launched into a tirade about the alleged importance of the flags before the board took a vote.

Cleveland: Don’t Believe Leftist Lies About A Federal Judge’s End To California’s Gun Ban
Judge Roger Benitez’s opinion provides a perfect primer for Americans seeking to understand the law and the gun fallacies leftists push. On Friday, a federal judge struck down California’s assault weapon ban in Miller v. Bonta. In the nearly 100-page opinion, District Court Judge Roger Benitez dissected post-Heller Second Amendment jurisdiction, while scrutinizing the state’s claimed justification for banning ownership of so-called “assault weapons,” before enjoining enforcement of several sections of California’s Assault Weapons Control Act (AWCA). Yet for 30 days Judge Benitez also stayed the execution of the declaratory judgment and permanent injunction to allow the named defendant, California Attorney General Rob Bonta, to appeal. In striking down California’s “assault weapon” ban, which criminalizes the possession of various semi-automatic weapons based on their appearance, features, or ability to hold a magazine with more than 10 rounds of ammunition, Judge Benitez conducted a thorough review of controlling Second Amendment precedent and analyzed the hefty evidentiary record. He began with Heller, in which the Supreme Court noted the Second Amendment’s guarantee of the right to bear arms extends to firearms commonly owned by law-abiding citizens for lawful purposes, as opposed to weapons predominately used only in military settings. The Heller test, Judge Benitez noted, is a “hardware test,” but since Heller, the federal appellate courts have ignored this simple holding and created an array of various standards under which to judge the constitutionality of laws regulating firearms. Before applying the two-prong test the Ninth Circuit invented, though, Judge Benitez laid out how California’s law would fare under a straightforward application of Heller. In the process, he revealed some statistics of which most Americans are likely ignorant.

China is planning to build dozens of biosafety level three labs and one biosafety level four lab over the next five years as investigators take another look at the possibility that the coronavirus could have leaked out of a laboratory in Wuhan, China. China’s Guangdong province plans to create 25 to 30 biosafety level three labs and one biosafety level four lab, the Financial Times reported.
