NOTABLE QUOTES

Paula Knauss, mother of fallen Army Staff Sgt. Ryan Knauss: “The president of the United States has the ability to help our troops, have enough men and women to stay safe. In all of our history, in all of the time that we have been fighting, where did you leave these men and women but at one airport, one location, one gate to funnel thousands through? And who did you trust? You trusted our enemy to allow who would come through.”

Benny Johnson of Turning Point USA tweeted: General McKenzie: “We did not get everybody out that we wanted to get out.”

Army colonel assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division: “We are f*cking abandoning American citizens.”

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC):
“I think there are hundreds, if not thousands, of Americans left behind.”

Jenna Ellis former Trump campaign attorney at an election integrity rally in Ohio: “Liberty, my friends is only one election away from extinction.”

Kevin Roberts CEO of the Texas Policy Foundation: Our hope is in turning to the states, and demanding they step up where the federal government has stood down.

Dan Gelernter contributor to American Greatness: The real purpose of this recall election has nothing whatever to do with democracy or even with Newsom. The election is intended simply to keep the people of California quiet. It will enable the state’s leaders to say, “You’ve had your chance at voting, and look, we won! So calm down and continue to follow our orders.” Ultimately, this election will test whether Americans will accept a dictatorship.

Ken Masugi contributor to American Greatness: . . .the CDC and the DACA examples illustrate the extent to which the federal government is governed not by an elected congress or president, or even the unelected courts but by the administrative state, the nexus of bureaucracy, academia, and media that effectively rules America on behalf of increasingly leftist policies.

BEHIND THAE DEEP STATE

Sundance: HHS Amends PREP Act Liability Waiver To Cover Only NIH Approved Treatments for COVID-19
There have been some recent reports about hospitals, doctors and health officials now refusing to treat U.S. patients with vitamin D, ivermectin, hydroxychloroquine and another effective therapeutics. A recent notation about HHS changing liability waivers under the PREP Act, might provide some insight. […] A PREP Act declaration is specifically for the purpose of providing immunity from tort liability, and is different from, and not dependent on, other emergency declarations. A COVID watchdog group recently noted: “It appears that the Prep Act had been amended such that private hospitals and entities were covered in their actions taken with Covid-19 patients and relieved of all liability as long as they were prescribing ‘Covered Countermeasures’. ie. NIH approved medications. This may be why hospitals are refusing to use effective COVID treatments like vitamin D, ivermectin, hydroxychloroquine, etc” (link) […] The attachment of a liability or tort waiver to only cover FDA approved therapeutics likely explains a shift amid the medical community to stop patients treatment due to coverage restrictions on their malpractice insurance. Additionally, Big Pharma -the group who controls NIH- wouldn’t make as much money if their mandatory vaccines . . .

DeLarme: The FDA’s cozy relationship with Big Pharma
As people rush to tout the recent FDA approval of Pfizer’s mRNA vaccine as if it were some great scientific victory, the institution’s shady history seems to be all but forgotten. No matter how you slice it, the pharmaceutical industry is the central engine of the global health establishment. The industry’s larger corporations (Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, Merck, etc.) provide funding for the FDA, the CDC, the WHO; they do this both directly and through NGOs like the EPDA. It was recently reported that pharmaceutical giants are raking in the money with the sale of their novel and inadequately tested COVID-19 vaccines. Pfizer expects to earn $33.5 billion in 2021. J&J estimates its full-year COVID-19 vaccine sales to be $2.5 billion, while Moderna forecasts $19.2 billion. These enormous figures will be grossly surpassed when one considers the forthcoming round of booster shots and the profits those will yield.
When it comes to lobbying money spent in 2021, the Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturers of America group ranks number three nationally. Interestingly, the fourth, fifth, and sixth positions are also members of the health establishment. These are the American Hospital Association, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and the American Medical Association. Respectively. Pfizer by itself is number 15. The ties between the FDA and Big Pharma run deep, . . .

THE ADMINISTRATIVE STATE

Masugi: Follow the Science . . . Toward Tyranny
Modern science as a discipline carries within itself the seeds of tyrannical rule, for the scientific method requires controlled experiments. But human beings want to be free and reject rules they did not create. Applied directly to society, the methods of natural science would destroy the ways of a free nation.
Of course free men and women use science to uncover knowledge and apply it to improve the human condition. Today the crucial distinction between following science and using it is lost on people and politicians. Without observing that difference, Americans might readily confuse their need for science with a dangerous embrace of the tyranny it demands when imprudently applied to human behavior. Now comes the U.S. Supreme Court espying tyranny in a bureaucratic Center for Disease Control (CDC) regulation preposterously claiming to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Perhaps the court caught some anti-tyranny virus, for just 48 hours before, it denied the bureaucracy the ability to preserve and enhance the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) program—which allows “Dreamers” to remain in the United States illegally and indefinitely. Whatever the epidemiology of its jurisprudence, the court’s unsigned per curiam opinion in Alabama Association of Realtors v. HHS has exposed the tyranny of the administrative state. Both the CDC and the DACA examples illustrate the extent to which the federal government is governed not by an elected congress or president, or even the unelected courts but by the administrative state, the nexus of bureaucracy, academia, and media that effectively rules America on behalf of increasingly leftist policies. The allegedly anti-COVID regulation is quicker to analyze and ridicule and better illustrates the vices of the administrative state.

US SUPREME COURT

Ollstein: Supreme Court allows Texas’ 6-week abortion ban to take effect
The Supreme Court early Wednesday let a Texas state law take effect that allows private citizens to sue to uphold a ban on the procedure after six weeks of pregnancy. The court’s decision to not act on an emergency petition from Texas abortion clinics comes as the justices prepare to more broadly reconsider the right to an abortion it established almost 50 years ago. In May, justices agreed to review Mississippi’s ban on the procedure after 15 weeks of pregnancy — a direct challenge to Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 decision that legalized abortion nationwide. Those arguments are expected later this year, with a ruling in 2022. Beyond outlawing abortion as early as six weeks into a pregnancy, the Texas law, signed in May, would deputize citizens to file civil suits against abortion providers or anyone who helps facilitate the procedure after six weeks, such as . . .

Xu: Meet The Marxist Revolutionaries Behind California’s Emerging Ethnic Studies For Public Schools
California’s Democrat-controlled state legislature may pass Assembly Bill 101 into law this week. If signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom, it will mandate “ethnic studies” as a high school graduation requirement for all California public schools. “Ethnic studies” is a series of courses that focus on history, but through perspectives advocates see as “marginalized,” including black, Asian American, and Latin American/Chicano studies. California’s adoption of the proposal could set a precedent for the rest of the country. We now have precise evidence about who has been developing the ethnic studies curricula that could soon be taught to California’s more than 6 million public school children—and they are Marxist revolutionaries. Union del Barrio is a revolutionary socialist group that has “dedicated [themselves] to struggle on behalf of ‘la Raza.’” They define “la Raza” as the indigenous and Latino inhabitants of North and South America who must unite as “Nuestra América” to defeat colonialism, capitalism, and neoliberalism. They are fundamentally opposed to the “international capitalist elite that is currently led by United States imperialism.” Their goals are explicit and extreme: . . .

PEACEFULLY & PATRIOTICALLY HAVE YOUR VOICES HEARD

Prieb: Florida restaurant owner tells Biden supporters to ‘take your business elsewhere’
Angie Ugarte, the owner of DeBary Diner, posted a sign on her establishment’s front door that caught the attention of Fox 35 Orlando. “If you voted for and continue to support and stand behind the worthless, inept and corrupt administration currently inhabiting the White House that is complicit in the death of our servicemen and women in Afghanistan, please take your business elsewhere,” the sign reads. Ugarte told the local news outlet that she posted the sign the same day 13 U.S. service members were killed in an attack at the Kabul airport in Afghanistan, which also killed dozens of Afghan civilians.

Simonian: Here’s The Most Important Back To School List Parents Need Right Now
I can’t stay silent any longer about the devastating position so many of our schools are in. Education no longer exists without indoctrination. […] Thankfully, I’m not the only parent pushing back. Just the single issue of critical race theory has hordes of parents waking up and showing up to hold school boards accountable. So, given the chaos in our classrooms, here’s my new Back to School supply list. 1. Do your research. Follow the (few) news organizations daring to report truth and facts. Join support groups that connect parents with information, facts, questions, and talking points to broach with school and district administrators. PragerU Kids membership program called PREP (PragerU Resources for Educators & Parents) is just one of them. (Disclosure: I work at PragerU.) 2. Find your local people. I started taking risks by opening hard conversations with parents at our school who, on a hunch, seemed as though they shared my same values. What began as a group of about five folks last year quickly ballooned into a mini-army of nearly 50 parents, and it’s still growing. 3. . . . 4. . . 5. . . 6. . .

Keating: Exclusive: In secret texts, U.S. military officials lamented leaving Americans behind in Kabul
President Biden declared to a puzzled country on Tuesday that the U.S. evacuation from Afghanistan was an “extraordinary success,” while his Pentagon portrayed a prosaic, workaday process to repatriate Americans still stranded in the war-torn country. But text messages between U.S. military commanders and private citizens mounting last-minute rescues tell a far different story, one in which pleading American citizens were frantically left behind at the Kabul airport gate this past weekend to face an uncertain fate under Taliban rule while U.S. officials sought to spread the blame between high-ranking generals and the State Department. “We are f*cking abandoning American citizens,” an Army colonel assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division wrote Sunday in frustration in a series of encrypted messages that detailed the failed effort to extricate a group of American citizens, hours before the last U.S. soldiers departed Afghanistan.

BIDEN/HARRIS/OBAMA REGIME: TRANSFORMING FOREIGN POLICY

Pleasance: Death of freedom: Jubilant Taliban hold mock FUNERALS for American, British and NATO forces as thousands take to streets to celebrate ‘victory’ after last US soldier left Afghanistan
Coffins draped with the US, UK and French flags as well as NATO’s insignia were paraded through the streets of Khost by crowds flying the Taliban’s emblem – just two weeks after anti-Taliban protests in the same city. In Kandahar – a traditional stronghold of the Islamists – thousands also turned out waving white Taliban flags to celebrate what the group is referring to as its ‘independence day’, hours after the final American troops boarded an evacuation flight out of the country. It comes after celebratory scenes in Kabul overnight, where fireworks exploded and gunfire rattled through the air moments after the final US jet departed. Speaking from the runway at Kabul airport this morning – and surrounded by Taliban special forces units dressed head to toe in American gear – spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid hailed the ‘victory’ over western forces.

Prager: Cui Bono? Who Benefits From the Afghanistan Withdrawal?
How does a leader decide what to do? The most logical response is: “Cui bono?”—”Who benefits” from the decision? If some policy benefits your country most, you should, within moral bounds, pursue it. If your enemies benefit most, you should avoid it. I’d be curious to learn what answer proponents of America leaving Afghanistan—conservative or liberal—would give to the question, “Cui bono?” I can say that until this moment, I have not read or heard a single cogent argument from proponents of American withdrawal as to how exactly it benefits America. “Twenty years is too long,” or its variant, “we have to end these endless wars,” the most commonly offered argument for withdrawal, has nothing to do with benefiting America. It is an emotional sentiment, not a rational argument. […] So, while America doesn’t benefit at all from leaving Afghanistan, it does get hurt. The damage to the reputation of America—as an ally and as a strong country—is not easily overstated. The damage done to . . .[…] On the other hand, “Cui bono?” has some very clear answers: China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, every Islamic terror group in the world, and every other anti-American regime and movement.

BIDEN/HARRIS/OBAMA REGIME: TRANSFORMING AMERICA

Roberts: Afghanistan, the Southern U.S. Border and Biden’s Intentions
The debacle in Afghanistan is still unfolding, but it is already one of the signal disasters of American history. It’s usually premature to assess contemporary events in history’s light, so it’s a sign of just how bad things are in Kabul that I — a historian — am ready to put it alongside the Bay of Pigs, the Fall of Saigon, the Black Hawk Down incident, and 9/11 itself in the list of era-defining American humiliations. It’s bad enough that it’s happening – what’s worse is that we chose it. And it’s not an aberration for our unmoored American federal government regardless of who occupies the White House or controls Congress. Confronted with a whole summer of insurrectionary violence in American cities, it can’t seem to bring itself to guarantee public order. Confronted with angry citizens overrunning the very seat of its rule on Capitol Hill, it can’t seem to defend itself. Confronted with a metastasizing narco-state threat in Mexico, and a historic crisis of human trafficking overwhelming national borders, it can’t seem to do much but watch. Yet when confronted with states organizing in blocs to execute tasks reserved to itself — the so-called “Western States Pact” comes to mind, as do the various states sending forces to the U.S.-Mexico border — the federal government seems strangely passive and inert. Perhaps that’s to the good. […] If the federal government can’t win a war, can’t preserve law and order, can’t secure its own seat of governance, can’t control the border, and can’t defend the idea of America, then what can it do? Well, it can . .

Smith: Biden’s Unspoken Aim: Demoralize Americans
If you take the time to piece together the puzzle, you begin to see a very disturbing picture. In seven short months, the Biden administration hasn’t only, via policy and executive decisions, precipitated a dire crisis on the U.S. southern border and an unforced debacle in Afghanistan — the latter with dark strategic implications vis-à-vis the PRC, Russia, Iran, and North Korea, along with an anticipated resurgence in terrorism but appears to seek to break the American spirit. The picture emerging strongly suggests that demoralizing Americans isn’t merely a consequence of bad policies, poor decision-making, and incompetence. We know this: control requires submission. Saul Alinsky summed up the argument for demoralization to achieve control: “Rule 3: Whenever possible, go outside the experience of an opponent. Here you want to cause confusion, fear, and retreat.”

THE CORRUPT & DANGEROUS DEMOCRAT PARTY MEDIA INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX

Showalter: Now NPR trashes free speech: Are the ruling elites looking to move in for the kill?
National Public Radio, a government-funded outlet, is now shilling against free speech. According to Matt Taibbi, who is himself on the left, via Substack: The guests for NPR’s just-released On The Media episode about the dangers of free speech included Andrew Marantz, author of an article called, “Free Speech is Killing Us”; P.E. Moskowitz, author of “The Case Against Free Speech”; Susan Benesch, director of the “Dangerous Speech Project”; and Berkeley professor John Powell, whose contribution was to rip John Stuart Mill’s defense of free speech in On Liberty as “wrong.” That’s about right for NPR, which for years now has regularly congratulated itself for being a beacon of diversity while expunging every conceivable alternative point of view. The pampered princelings of the outlet featured no voices in defense of the First Amendment.

FAUCI’S VIRUS: IT’S POLITICAL

Raleigh: Dr. Scott Atlas: Science Killed Itself Over COVID-19
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the American people have been told to “follow the science.” Yet for a year and a half, they’ve heard contradicting messages from self-appointed prophets of “the science” like Dr. Anthony Fauci and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). We learned that politicians who claimed their decisions were science-driven often ignored scientific findings that didn’t fit certain political narratives. We discovered that scientists are fallible human beings, and some would let personal interests and political views cloud their judgment. Is science itself one of the victims of the COVID-19 pandemic? I asked Dr. Scott Atlas at the 13th annual Freedom Conference hosted by the Steamboat Institute, a Colorado-based nonprofit organization. Formerly a professor and chief of neuroradiology at Stanford University Medical Center, Atlas is now a senior fellow in health policy at the Hoover Institution.

DOCUMENTARY RECOMMENDATION

Melonic: A History of Totalitarian Surrealism
It is precisely this emphasis on specific, human stories that is the focus of Satter’s documentary film, “Age of Delirium” (2011). Based on his 2001 book, Age of Delirium: The Decline and Fall of the Soviet Union, Satter weaves together many stories of those who survived Communism’s brutal treatment and dehumanization. Tracing his steps through his many trips around the Soviet Union in search for the truth, Satter revisits places he wrote about as a correspondent. […] “Age of Delirium” is not just about the totalitarian surrealism of the Soviet Union but about the factors that contribute to building a totalitarian system and regime. Man ceases to be human once he accepts a metaphysical takeover by ideology, cleanses himself of moral responsibility, and quietly and indifferently accepts that he has allowed himself to turn into a beast, all in an effort to be God.

Gelernter: California’s Recall Election Has Already Been Stolen
California’s gubernatorial recall election is officially September 14, but “Election Day” has ceased to have any meaning, Mail-in ballots were automatically sent to every registered voter on August 16. Return postage is “free,” pre-paid by California taxpayers. The registration deadline was August 30, but you can still register to vote “conditionally” and cast your vote immediately, right up to and including on the 14th. Mail ballots do not have to be received by “Election Day.” Ballots received up through September 21, a week after the election, will still count. Which gives the people in power plenty of time to correct any “mistakes” revealed by the initial vote tallying on September 14.
