Donald Trump was a great president, and Americans of all stripes are beginning to recognize that.  Even his opponents will find it hard to argue against that conclusion without waxing stupid about a supposed “January 6th insurrection” that was “worse than 9/11,” or citing the futile “impeachments” where Democrats beclowned themselves in conducting show trials against him. The truth is that under the Trump presidency, America became a net exporter of energy.  We were largely “energy independent,” a phrase that had been little more than a pipe dream since at least the 1970’s until it became a reality in Donald Trump’s America.  We had a genuine path to peace in the Middle East, another prospect once-unthinkable in most of our lifetimes.  The economy was the best it had been in 50 years, businesses were repatriating due to competitive tax policy, and the vast majority of Americans experienced significant tax cuts (even the New York Times begrudgingly admits this). Perhaps most importantly, President Trump did nothing short of giving American conservatives a voice in the culture again, punching back at left-wing government-corporate-media attacks against conservative principles like life, family, and American exceptionalism, and by eventually forcing them to expose their fascistic impulses and practices for all to see. No man is without faults, and like so many great men, Trump certainly has his share.  Yet I am deeply thankful for him, and his service to this country.  All of that said, if he loves this country and wants what’s best for it, he should not run for the presidency in 2024. A federal judge delivered a warning to special counsel John Durham on Thursday after recent court filings became fodder for pro-Trump media and prompted incendiary allegations from the former president himself. “Keep in mind that the pleadings in this case are under a microscope and may be employed for one reason or another by folks for reasons that have nothing to do with the ultimate issues in this case,” U.S. District Court Judge Christopher Cooper said after offering the attorneys working for Durham a chance to correct any “misinterpretation” of their earlier filings. After it became clear during opening statements that the defense could not argue their case without explaining the deep involvement of the FBI’s confidential human sources, Jonker reversed his ruling, telling the jury that “it won’t be possible to draw a line between the government proving their case and entrapment.” And the defense was ready. […]  Further, the testimony by the prosecution’s FBI witnesses raises significant political questions. Who in Trump’s Justice Department was aware of this operation? Was Attorney General William Barr briefed on what was happening and did he notify the president? What about FBI Director Christopher Wray? SECURING OUR SOUTHERN BORDER

Center for Renewing  America: 5 CLAIMS AND RESPONSES: HOW STATES CAN UNILATERALLY SECURE THE BORDER
As the ongoing humanitarian and security crisis continues unabated along the U.S. southern border, states are looking for new ways to take the lead to stop this invasion in lieu of both Washington’s inaction and willful negligence. Among the remedies available is the Constitution’s “self-help” provision for states to defend themselves from threats outside their respective territories. Below are various claims and responses made in consideration of whether states can bring an end to the crisis along the U.S. southern border: Claim: Federal law is explicit that the responsibility for securing the U.S. border falls to the federal government. States attempting to secure the border do so without legal authority. Response: The authority for states to secure the border does not rest on federal immigration law, but the Constitution’s war-making authorities that states retain in certain circumstances. Specifically, the Constitution provides a clear and firm foundation for states to act decisively should the federal government fail to uphold its obligations. Among these obligations are those found in Article IV, Section 4, the “Guarantee Clause” of the Constitution. That clause specifies, “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them from Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic violence.” The guarantee against invasion is unconditional and fundamental, extending to all forms of invasion. The federal government is currently in violation of its duties under the Guarantee Clause. Therefore, states are currently within their rights to act using their Article I authority – not immigration authority – to defend themselves. Claim: The Constitution does not list border security in the list of authorities states may employ in certain circumstances under Article I.  Response: . . . Claim: The mere migration of many destitute immigrants does not constitute an invasion, and the assertion that it does is simply designed to invoke these authorities. Response: . . . Claim: There is no case law regarding the invasion question. States attempting to utilize this provision to act unilaterally to secure the border are doing so without legal precedent. Response: . . . Claim: Returning illegal border crossers back into Mexico under state war-powers authority creates a potential diplomatic conflict between state governments and Mexico. Such action risks an international incident.

Masks will continue to be required on planes, trains and buses for at least another month, the Transportation Security Administration announced Thursday. During the extension, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will work with government agencies to “help inform a revised policy framework for when, and under what circumstances, masks should be required in the public transportation corridor,” according to a TSA press release. The Russian request, announced in a tweet Thursday afternoon from its first deputy U.N. ambassador, Dmitry Polyansky, follows the U.S. rejection of Russian accusations that Ukraine is running chemical and biological labs with U.S. support. Pentagon press secretary John Kirby on Wednesday called the Russian claim “a bunch of malarkey.” Dmitry Chumakov, another Russian deputy U.N. ambassador, repeated the accusation Wednesday, urging Western media to cover “the news about secret biological laboratories in Ukraine.” The U.N. announced Thursday evening that the meeting will take place at 10am EST but then pushed it back to 11am EST. Curl: Inflation Soars 7.9% In Past 12 Months, New 40-Year High
The consumer price index increased 7.9% over the past 12 months, hitting a 40-year high, according to the Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics. “The February acceleration was the fastest pace since January 1982, back when the U.S. economy confronted the twin threat of higher inflation and reduced economic growth,” CNBC reported. Meanwhile, earnings fell again, according to BLS data. “Real inflation-adjusted average hourly earnings for the month fell 0.8% in February, contributing to a 2.6% decline over the past year, according to the BLS. That came even though headline earnings rose 5.1% from a year ago, but were outweighed by the price surge,” the network reported. The news comes as some begin to push for the suspension of federal and state taxes on gasoline.

Bitcoin surged on the news as the administration’s holistic and deliberative approach calmed market fears about an immediate regulatory crackdown on cryptocurrencies. In midday trading, bitcoin rose 9.1% to $42,280, on track for its largest percentage gain since Feb. 28.

Greenfield: Americans Can’t Afford Gas, Congress Just Gave Itself a 21% Raise
As part of the $1.5 trillion omnibus spending bill released Wednesday, the $5.9 billion fiscal 2022 Legislative Branch funding portion would substantially boost the office budgets of House members to pay staff more… This legislation would provide $774.4 million for the Members Representational Allowance, known as the MRA, which funds the House office budgets for lawmakers, including staffer salaries. This $134.4 million, or 21 percent, boost over the previous fiscal year marks the largest increase in the MRA appropriation since it was authorized in 1996, according to a bill summary by the House Appropriations Committee.

Sundance: Highest Gasoline Prices in History Hit All 50 States, National Avg Increased 20 Cents in Just Four Days
The nationwide average for regular gas is now $4.32 a gallon, according to AAA. Just yesterday it was $4.25. In just a few days gasoline has eclipsed the highest price ever recorded by 20¢.  The previous record was $4.11 in July 2008.  Unfortunately, there is no end in sight.  Anecdotally, my neighborhood gas station went up 75¢/gal in just three days and is now $4.95. Nationally, Diesel prices are also at record highs, with the average cost at $5.06 a gallon, up almost twenty cents overnight from Wednesday to Thursday.  This will increase transportation costs for all goods being delivered.   The speed of the current rate of increase is very troublesome. The Thomas Jefferson School For Science and Technology once had the highest math scores in the country, but after the school board determined that that was not “equitable,” they jettisoned the math test used for admission in favor of a process based on how “disadvantaged” students were.

Pleasance: Now Putin bombs a disabled care home: Ukrainians claim Russians are killing MORE civilians than soldiers and have destroyed 48 schools – but Kyiv says it’s breaking stranglehold on cities as another helicopter is blown out the sky
Oleg Sinegubov, an official from Kharkiv which has been under siege by Russian forces for days, accused Putin’s men of committing a ‘war crime’ by launching air strikes against the facility in the town of Oskil which had 330 residents inside at the time the bombs hit. Sinegubov said 63 care home residents have since been evacuated, but could not give an update on the other 267. Ten of those living at the home require wheelchairs, he said, while another 50 have reduced mobility. Ihor Terekhov, mayor of the city, said another 48 schools have been destroyed by Russian missiles.
