For those who understand what has happened these last two-plus years, the rise of authoritarianism has caused a great deal of consternation. American adults aged 18-20 already aren’t allowed to purchase handguns (and many states don’t allow them to obtain a concealed carry permit), more or less blocking them from practicing the basic self-defense precaution of stowing a defensive weapon to stop a bad guy with a gun. Now, Second Amendment deniers also want to bar these Americans from owning a rifle, a popular choice for home defense. But while Democrats want to punish millions of law-abiding, prospective young gun owners for the evil, disturbed actions of a few of their peers, they’re also demanding that kids far younger be allowed to commit infanticide and mutilate their own bodies.

Hubbard: House passes extensive gun bill limiting magazine rounds, raising purchase age
The “Protecting our Kids Act,” which the House voted on in multiple parts, ultimately passed 223-204. The legislation defines a “large capacity ammunition feeding device” as any magazine that has an overall capacity of “more than 10 rounds of ammunition.” It would also create a buy-back program for these types of devices. That portion of the legislation passed 220-207. The House also voted 228-199 to raise the age to purchase certain guns to 21. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) would allow for the “seizure and forfeiture” of firearms that are improperly stored of “large capacity feeding devices.”
A more bipartisan portion of the legislation would require annual reports on the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). The measure was supported 380-47. […] Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn is reaching across the aisle to work on more moderate gun reform measures.

Everything about this story is suspicious. A California man travels all the way to Maryland only to be intercepted by unnamed police at 1:50am, and then admits he was intent on killing Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh because he was angry about the possibility of SCOTUS overturning Roe -v- Wade. Uh huh. The first indicator something is sketchy is the WaPo with the breaking news. The second indicator is Peter Strzoks BFF journalist Devlin Barrett with the story. Assuming the U.S. Marshals office still holds some credibility, the Occam’ Razor of the sourcing would indicate it’s the FBI delivering the information to the Washington Post.

What did this guy have planned? The FBI has released the affidavit filed in the case of Nicholas John Roske, who was arrested near the home of Supreme Court Justice Bret Kavanagh on Wednesday afternoon. The list of weapons and gear the suspect had on his person reads like something out of a horror movie. Roske, who told police that he planned to assassinate Kavanaugh, was arrested with a suitcase containing “a black tactical chest rig and tactical knife, a Glock 17 pistol with two magazines and ammunition, pepper spray, zip ties, a hammer, screwdriver, nail punch, crow bar, pistol light, duct tape, hiking boots with padding on the outside of the soles, and other items,” according to the FBI.

Neff: Senate Candidate Blake Masters Steps In To Protect Elderly Woman From Registered Sex Offender
The Democratic activist who went into a Republican Party event in Green Valley last week intent of being disruptive and ended up on the floor before being handed a criminal citation is a 73-year-old registered sex offender, according to public records. Peter Jackson was arrested June 4 after a physical altercation with several attendees at a “Candidate Open Mic Kegger Event” hosted by the United Republicans of Green Valley / Sahuarita at their office in the Continental Shopping Plaza. He has a June 23 initial court appearance for two charges – simple assault and trespassing. Among those having physical contact with Jackson was U.S. Senate candidate Blake Masters, who responded to cries from among the group that Jackson struck a woman. Masters is seen on video stepping between Jackson and a woman before he is seen pulling Jackson to the ground from behind. After the event, Masters explained he saw Jackson appear to strike a woman. “Let me be clear: if you come to an event I’m at and attack a woman, it’s going to be a bad day for you,” he told one news outlet. Jackson’s court order to appear on the citation is not his first experience with the judiciary. Jackson was convicted in Hawaii in 2000 of sexual assault, according to court records. After HR1, the Democrat’s bill to nationalize the election process was defeated in two consecutive Congresses, one might think the supporters would get the hint and move on. That is clearly not the case as they are chastising Republicans for reestablishing voting rules at the state level, so there is not another free-for-all as we experienced in 2020. There is a new proposal that attempts to cheapen voting and place central control at the federal level for all election rules. Hoft: Missouri Governor Signs Law that Prohibits Pharmacists from Questioning the Effectiveness of Ivermectin and Hydroxychloroquine
Missouri Governor Mike Parson (R) on Tuesday signed legislation that will prevent state licensing boards from disciplining physicians who prescribe the wonder drugs Ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine. The new law also prohibits pharmacists from questioning the prescription and its effectiveness. Missouri legislature passed HB 2149 in early May, which modifies provisions relating to professional licensing with a vote of 139-4. According to this new law which goes into effect in August, “The act of lawfully dispensing, prescribing, administering, or otherwise distributing ivermectin tablets or hydroxychloroquine sulfate tablets for human use shall not be grounds for denial, suspension, revocation, or other disciplinary action by the board.”

Best: Royalty payments to government scientists come under scrutiny
As lawmakers push for more transparency around how National Institutes of Health employees profit from their inventions, a government watchdog has found that more than 1,800 government scientists collected 27,244 royalty payments totaling hundreds of millions of dollars from 2009 to 2016.
OpenTheBooks.com made the discovery after suing the NIH last year for allegedly slow-walking their Freedom of Information Act requests. […] “Because those payments enrich the agency and its scientists, each and every royalty payment could be a potential conflict of interest and needs disclosure,” OpenTheBooks.com founder Adam Andrzejewski writes. […] A group of Republican Senators also wrote a letter to Acting NIH Director Lawrence Tabak seeking information on “the degree to which government doctors and researchers have a financial interest in drugs and products they support,” as well as “whether any relationship exists between federal grants awarded by NIH and royalty payments received by NIH personnel.”

Siglaugsson: When Believing the Health Authorities Requires Denying Obvious Realities
This weekend The Daily Sceptic published two articles reviewing some studies purported to show Covid-19 vaccines are useful for countering so-called long-covid, lingering symptoms after Covid infection. The conclusion of the author, who is an ex-senior scientist with the UK government, is that the vaccinations do not in fact prevent those symptoms. In addition one of the studies he quotes shows a great increase in health-related problems resulting from vaccination, which the authors seem to have tried to bury. The interesting thing here is how we have, over the course of 18 months, moved from eagerly awaiting vaccines that would eradicate Covid-19 by providing herd immunity, towards failed attempts at showing that at least those vaccines prevent long-term health issues among those who catch the disease and fall ill with it, the disease they wouldn’t have caught, let alone fallen ill with, had the vaccines worked as promised. At the same time, more and more data from all over the world show how the vaccine rollout is in fact correlated with a large spike in excess mortality.

Housman: Poll: Nearly Half Of ‘Younger Democratic Men’ Think Assassinating A Politician Is Okay
A recently released poll found that almost half of male Democrats under the age of 50 said it was acceptable to assassinate political opponents. Forty-four percent of the “younger Democratic men” surveyed in the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) poll approved of “assassinating a politician who is harming the country or our democracy.” That was the highest rate of any gender, party and age combination.

Martinez: Biden admin fights giving $230M settlement to victims of 2017 Texas church massacre
Days after a mass shooting at a Texas elementary school that left 19 children and two teachers dead, the Biden Administration is fighting a court-ordered $230 million verdict for the victims of a different Texas mass shooting. The Justice Department filed an appeal in an attempt to not pay the multi-million dollar verdict to the families and victims of the 2017 Sutherland Springs church shooting by former Air Force airman Devin Kelley, said Texas attorney Thomas J. Henry. “That federal judge found that the United States government was at fault for allowing the gunman to acquire a gun because the government failed to report that the gunman was dishonorably discharged, which would have prevented him even acquiring a gun,” Henry told The Post Wednesday. Kelley was able to pass the background check and buy an AR-556 rifle after the Air Force did not enter his tarnished history into a national data base, a court found.

You’ve heard it said that anecdotes are not data. But so much the worse for data. Stories are what make the world go round. Stories are the means by which we orient ourselves to the world, and to one another. We are enveloped by stories—stories of which we are already a part, and that are a part of us, stories that have already formed the basis of our common life even before we lisp our first words. Stories drawn from the Bible, from nursery rhymes and children’s books, from great literature and classic movies, from biographies and historical accounts, or from humbler sources, such as the lore of families and the memories of old friends. So here’s my humble little story for tonight. A few years ago, I was fortunate enough to have dinner with a very wise friend, here in Washington, at his favorite seafood restaurant near Dupont Circle. I remarked that he seemed to be spending more and more of his time in a certain foreign country. He acknowledged the fact, paused for a moment, and then said: “I want to live in a serious country.” It may be relevant to point out that the foreign country in question is Israel, where seriousness is an existential requirement. But it is equally important to point out that the gentleman in question is an American patriot of the highest order, the author of distinguished books on the subject. For him to say such a thing was therefore, for me, a very serious matter.

Why do I say that we need to lay siege to our institutions? Because of what has happened to our institutions since the 1960s. The 1960s saw the rise of new and radical ideologies in America that now seem commonplace—ideologies based on ideas like identity politics and cultural revolution. There is a direct line between those ideas born in the ’60s and the public policies being adopted today in leftist-run cities like Seattle, San Francisco, and Chicago. The leftist dream of a working-class rebellion in America fizzled after the ’60s. By the mid-1970s, radical groups like the Black Liberation Army and the Weather Underground had faded from prominence. But the leftist dreamers didn’t give up. Abandoning hope of a Russian-style revolution, they settled on a more sophisticated strategy—waging a revolution not of the proletariat, but of the elites, and specifically of the knowledge elites. It would proceed not by taking over the means of production, but by taking control of education and culture—a strategy that German Marxist Rudi Dutschke, a student activist in the 1960s, called “the long march through the institutions.” This idea is traceable to Italian communist Antonio Gramsci, who wrote in the 1930s of “capturing the culture via infiltration of schools, universities, churches, and the media by transforming the consciousness of society.”This march through our institutions, begun a half-century ago, has now proved largely successful. Over the past two years, I’ve looked at the federal bureaucracy, the universities, K-12 schools, and big corporations. And what I’ve found is that the revolutionary ideas of the ’60s have been repackaged, repurposed, and injected into American life at the institutional level.

The Biden Administration blasted the Trump southern border wall and canceled all further funding. Yet it just appropriated $40 billion to Ukraine to ensure that it does not lose its border war against Russian aggression. That is a tiny percentage of the federal budget. But the aid is full of symbolic irony, nonetheless. The multibillion-dollar appropriation would have more than covered the completion of the entire wall along our own southern border. An outside observer might conclude that the U.S. government intends to uphold the universal idea of national sovereignty, internationally recognized borders, and the security of citizens inside their own country—as long as they are not American citizens.

Christenson: Report: Soros Prosecutors Run Half of America’s Largest Jurisdictions
The Democratic megadonor has backed 75 so-called justice reform prosecutors through direct contributions, PACs, and other third-party entities, the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund revealed in a June report. Though many had little prosecutorial experience when elected, they represent 72 million Americans in some of the nation’s most populous municipalities. Ten Soros prosecutors, including Philadelphia district attorney Larry Krasner (D.) and Los Angeles district attorney George Gascon (D.), received $13 million in just the last four years, going on to win races where they had vastly outraised their competition—sometimes by as much as 90 percent. In each race, Soros was the single greatest donor to the campaign. […] The report discloses the power progressive criminal prosecutors wield in the American justice system—and the potential effects of that influence on crime. The FBI in 2020 reported its highest single-year increase in homicides—a 30 percent jump from the previous year. A year later, 12 cities, including Krasner’s Philadelphia and Soros-backed district attorney José Garza’s Austin, Texas, broke their all-time homicide records. According to the report, more than 40 percent of homicides and a third of all violent and property crimes in 2021 occurred in jurisdictions run by Soros prosecutors.

Stephenson: ‘Gender Affirmation’ For Minors Is Child Abuse, Not Treatment
On June 1, the Ohio House of Representatives followed Arkansas’s lead in passing a bill that blocks medical gender transition for minors, protects parental rights, and prevents biological males from competing in women’s sports. While critics of House Bill 454 claim its passage will “threaten” the mental health of Ohio’s youth, there is reason to doubt these “experts” are considering all the facts. Ohio’s vote preceded the release of the “Let Kids Be Kids” report issued by Gov. Ron DeSantis and Florida’s Agency for Healthcare Administration on June 2. The report summarizes the scientific research about the effectiveness of treatment for gender dysphoria in children, or rather, lack thereof, and has been met with heavy criticism from transgender activists who argue the report is motivated by bigotry. The explosive growth of the population of young people who identify as transgender in recent years is unprecedented, as is the use of “gender affirmation” therapy and gender transition surgery. These continue to be experimental methods for treating a relatively new problem. Advocates of these “treatments” speak adamantly about their necessity, but the fact is that we simply don’t know enough to make those claims just yet. And as a new documentary by political commentator Matt Walsh reveals, dissenting voices are simply being silenced.

Pullmann: Missouri Attorney General Investigation Uncovers Systemically Racist Curricula, Intrusive Surveys In Public Schools
Today the Missouri attorney general announced subpoenas of seven school districts in response to parent complaints of racist instruction and intrusive surveys administered to their children allegedly without prior parental notice. Attorney General Eric Schmitt’s office also posted Wednesday a public database of open records investigations into 49 Missouri school districts that uncovered the systemic abuse of public schooling for political purposes. The investigation uncovers Missouri public schools forcing students to participate in exercises that shame children for their skin color and teaching that races are inherently unequal, which violate the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Schmitt found such instances in 21 percent of Missouri’s 226 school districts after only two months of following up on parent complaints, indicating the problems are much more widespread. The investigations are ongoing and parents can submit more complaints to Schmitt’s office here. The newly public records document Missouri public schools forcing students to participate in a “privilege walk” in Saint Charles County’s Wentzville School District, shaming “whiteness” in teacher training in Saint Louis County’s Rockwood School District, and applying a Marxist or feminist “lens” to reading assignments at Hickman High School in Boone County.

Last Friday, the Heard Museum in Phoenix hosted its first-ever drag show, “Pride Night at the Heard” — and children were present to witness it. Sam Toledo, the museum’s digital content manager, told the Phoenix New Times that the show was family-friendly.

“Without the family we are helpless before the state.” No single line better captures G. K. Chesterton on the importance of the family, vis a vis the state, than that. Of course, the family is important for any number of reasons that have nothing to do with the state—and everything to do with the fact that the family truly is the “only state that creates and loves its own citizens.” Before proceeding any further, it must be stipulated that the family that G.K. Chesterton and Dale Ahlquist—president of the American Chesterton Society—have in mind is the traditional nuclear family of a married father and mother, plus children, as opposed to the various forms and formulations of working families, single-parent families, same-sex families, co-habitating families, no-child families, and communal families. The list probably could, and will, go on. No doubt another list could number other potential and actual bulwarks against an intrusive state, but surely it is the traditional nuclear family that is the natural—and most important—bulwark.

Note that The Recount calls this bizarre and weird, but I absolutely love it. Boebert couldn’t be more right about the need for God in the lives of children and teens to give them hope and purpose. Now this is easier said than fixed because, as she suggests, this is a culture problem. The family is completely broken and we’ve continually pushed God out of schools, colleges, and other institutions that matter when it comes to children. We’ve become a Godless society at large and we’re reaping the consequences of it in so many ways, including the murder of the innocent.

Binder: Massachusetts Democrats Vote to Issue Driver’s Licenses to Illegal Aliens
Democrats in the Massachusetts House voted Wednesday to override a veto by Gov. Charlie Baker (R) that blocked legislation providing driver’s licenses to illegal aliens. As Breitbart News reported last month, Baker vetoed the legislation that would allow tens of thousands of illegal aliens in the state to obtain driver’s licenses. Baker said he vetoed the plan because it “significantly increases the risk that noncitizens will be registered to vote.”
