Ross: ‘Dangerous’: Top FBI Official Had Close Relationship With Dozens of Journos, Accepted Tickets to White House Correspondents’ Dinner
The FBI’s top national security official had dozens of improper meetings with journalists and accepted tickets from one journalist to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, interactions that FBI officials said were a “no-no” and “dangerous.” Michael Steinbach, who served as an FBI executive assistant director, failed to report the gifts on his federal financial disclosures, according to an inspector general report obtained by the Washington Free Beacon. He met regularly from 2014 until his abrupt retirement in February 2017 with 7 reporters and had contact with 21 others. His interactions with journalists overlapped with his work on major counterterrorism cases and Crossfire Hurricane, the ill-fated investigation into collusion between the 2016 Donald Trump campaign and Russia. The report, obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, is the latest example of a top FBI official accepting gifts from journalists. The former head of FBI public affairs, Michael Kortan, received baseball game tickets and other gifts from CNN and New York Times reporters. Journalists also plied Steinbach’s former deputy, Bryan Paarmann, with a variety of gifts.

Filemon Vela, who resigned this year to become a lobbyist. Flores, a GOP organizer who is the daughter of migrant workers and a respiratory care practitioner, will hold the seat for several months before the district is redrawn to be more favorable to Democrats. But her victory in the heavily Hispanic Rio Grand Valley is an ominous sign for Democrats – and demonstrates that Republicans are making inroads with Hispanic voters. Tesla CEO Elon Musk said he had voted for Republican for the first time in order to vote for Flores. He tweeted: ‘I voted for Mayra Flores – first time I ever voted Republican. Massive red wave in 2022. Flores lauded former President Donald Trump in her victory speech. ‘We have to state the facts: That under President Trump, we did not have this mess in this country,’ she said. ‘And I want to see the Hispanic community rise up. And I want equal representation on both parties – I am the first Mexican-American ever elected to Congress,’ she said to cheers. The Supreme Court’s expected overturning of Roe v. Wade has captured all the news attention, but the Court could well lay the groundwork for even larger changes in American governance before it adjourns for the term — and trigger a state-by-state battle for the new shape of laws and American civic life.
If Roe v. Wade is overturned, activists on both sides are already girding for full-force political battles over state abortion access, possibly followed by similar struggles over contraception, and even same-sex marriage. Beyond its decision on abortion, however, the Court is expected to rule in no fewer than three cases this month that could open up many more fronts for this state-by-state conflict, by severely limiting federal agencies’ authority to promulgate regulations. […] . . . there’s a reason these cases are being left to the end of the term — typically when the Court drops its most newsworthy decisions. They all have a bearing on one of the basic responsibilities of the government in Washington: How much latitude federal agencies have to interpret, and then enforce, the laws that Congress passes.[…] A great deal of Washington’s power rests on a fact you don’t learn in civics textbooks: When Congress passes new laws, those laws are filled with instructions that can be vague, or debatable, or even self-contradictory. Laws need to be reapplied to new circumstances over time. Who gets to do that? A 22-year U.S. Navy officer told his story of fighting COVID-19 vaccine mandates and winning as part of a wide-ranging presentation Tuesday on the state of the U.S. military under President Joe Biden that was live-streamed here on LifeSiteNews. The Flag Day press conference, hosted by the medical freedom nonprofit Truth for Health Foundation, featured remarks by Navy Lt. Billy Moseley, who objected to the mandatory COVID shots but rather than seek a religious accommodation opted to bring his objections to the administrative separation board in protest of the armed forces’ plans to implement a “blanket denial policy.” “It was easy to see that there was a bait and switch happening,” Moseley said Tuesday. “And that’s when I started reaching out to several medical clinics, going back several times and trying to document that that approved drug was not available […]. And it didn’t matter how many senior officers, medical officers, chaplains inside the military that I would raise these concerns about, it would just fall on deaf ears and or they would say something along the lines like, we know it’s wrong. Previously, U.S. policy was that Americans were forbidden to invest in companies included in a “blacklist” of Chinese companies directly involved in China’s military, and in producing applications used by the Communist regime to oppress its own people and threaten its neighbors. The new “answers” amount to a wholesale abandonment of a policy Americans of all political stripes supported. Just ahead of a deadline last Friday for U.S. investors to cease trading in the stocks and bonds of companies officially linked to the Chinese military, the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) quietly notified investors that they would not be punished for holding onto such securities. The back-pedaling might be the result of successful lobbying by American financial firms unsure whether the rules would allow them to continue to trade these stocks on behalf of their non-U.S. clients and distribute dividends from those stocks to American clients. But it can also be seen as part of a long easing of economic sanctions imposed by the Trump administration, without obtaining any benefit for American prestige or negotiating leverage with China in return. On day 487 in office, President Joe Biden set a new record. He has the lowest approval rating of all presidents at this point in their presidencies since Gallup started tracking this in 1945. According to Gallup’s Presidential Job Approval Center, just 41% approve of the job Biden is doing. That’s worse than Gerald Ford, or Lyndon Johnson, or even Jimmy Carter on day 487. Much worse than Ronald Reagan, the Bushes, Bill Clinton, or Barack Obama. To add insult to his injury, Biden’s approval rating is now lower than Trump’s was at this point in Trump’s first term. Biden’s oh-so-presidential response to his cratering support: he is “seething.” Instead of accepting blame, Biden and his “inner circle” are blaming everyone around them, including the White House staff.

President Joe Biden told the largest federation of labor unions on Tuesday that he’s working to rebuild the U.S. economy around workers – while at one point falsely declaring that families have less debt and more savings than when he took office. The speech before the AFL-CIO convention in Philadelphia was the president’s attempt to reset the terms of the debate on the economy as his own approval ratings have slid while consumer prices – and the cost of gasoline – have surged. ‘Since I took office, with your help, families are carrying less debt nationwide. They have more savings nationwide,’ Biden said.
But despite the president’s pronouncements, data from the Federal Reserve shows that household debt has increased by over $1.5trillion since Biden took office in January 2021. And the country’s credit card debt is at record highs as well after jumping nearly 20% during the month of April to $1.103 trillion. The previous pre-pandemic record was $1.1 trillion. Americans’ savings accounts have also shrunk by more than $9,000 over the past year – from $73,100 in 2021 to $62,086 in 2022 – according to a survey from wealth management company Northwestern Mutual.

AFP: US Federal Reserve is poised to make its biggest increase to interest rates in nearly 30 YEARS today with speculation it will be a 75-basis-point hike
The US Federal Reserve is poised to raise borrowing costs Wednesday amid the troubling acceleration of inflation, with the only question being whether officials will opt for the biggest hike in nearly three decades or a smaller step up. The central bank seemed set to increase the benchmark interest rate again by 0.5 percentage points, but a resurgence of consumer and producer prices in May has fueled growing speculation of a 75-basis-point hike. While some economists continue to argue that such an aggressive step would indicate rising panic among policymakers who are usually reluctant to surprise financial markets, others argue that the Fed is behind the curve and needs to react strongly to prove its resolve to combat inflation. “It is possible that by Wednesday the only way for the Fed to surprise markets would be to raise rates by 50 bp,” Harvard economist and former White House advisor Jason Furman tweeted.
If policymakers decide on a giant step, it would be the first 75-basis-point increase since November 1994.

As a Middle East policy fellow at the Brookings Institution, where she worked first from 2003 to 2009 and then from 2012 until earlier this month, Wittes lavished praise on Qatar, a repressive nation that discriminates against gays, lesbians, and transgender individuals. “We’ve never met the goal, but we’ve never — other than the Trump administration — tried to walk away from that goal,” he said. […] So, the Trump administration walked away from the goal of protecting the God-given right to life recognized in our Declaration of Independence, but Biden and the AFL-CIO did not? Hardly. President Biden claimed last month at the Naval Academy’s graduation ceremony that he was appointed to the military school in 1965 by the late Sen. J. Caleb Boggs (R-Del.), but a search of Boggs’ archives has failed to turn up evidence to back the claim. Curators at the Delaware Historical Association in Wilmington were able to find records of Boggs’ academy nominations for just one year in the early 1960s and could not locate records for either 1965 or the more plausible year 1961. That means, barring evidence from an unlikely third party, that it’s probable only Biden — who often shares incorrect or exaggerated memories — can prove his claim.

The younger Biden’s search for a good crack recipe came only three days after he claimed to advise his father on political matters, texts from his abandoned laptop reveal. “My dad asked me to be in a call at 7:30 re political decisions,” Hunter Biden texted his psychiatrist, Keith Ablow, on Jan. 16, 2019. In texts to Ablow a year earlier, the younger Biden discussed his deep involvement with his father’s political team.

Gaffney: 2 police officers die of injuries after being shot while responding to call in California
Two police officers have died after being shot in El Monte, California, Tuesday while responding to a possible stabbing at a motel, authorities said. The El Monte Police Department said two officers “immediately took gunfire upon arrival” at the Siesta Inn. The officers were taken to LAC-USC Medical Center, where they died of their injuries, ABC News Los Angeles station KABC reported. The suspect was also shot and died at the scene, according to KABC.

Nearly one-third of interventionists have seen someone shot while on the job, and more than one-quarter reported this experience within the last year. What is more, nearly 20% of workers reported being shot at while performing their work, with nearly 12% reporting being shot at within the last year. Beyond exposure, our results reveal that interventionists do experience direct gun violence victimization while on the job: 2·2% reported being nonfatally shot while working. . . In addition to elevated levels of direct exposure to gun violence and scenes of violence, Chicago interventionists additionally commonly experienced indirect exposure to death, violent deaths, and interpersonal loss within their work-related social networks. Really—who could have seen the coming? Maybe it’s time for Chicago to imagine actual policing—and prosecution—again.

Here is the erstwhile journalism foundation, Poynter, campaigning for red flag laws. Beware of misinformation about red flag laws, including critics who say they lack due process, which is not accurate. Another false claim is that the laws allow people with a grudge, such as an ex-spouse, to take guns away.
Here’s a thought experiment: Let’s imagine a law that empowered a court to temporarily nullify the free speech rights of journalists who are accused by a third party of being potentially dangerous. Let’s imagine that the nullification could be enforced before the journalist even had a chance to respond to any of the allegations leveled against them. Would Poynter argue that the proper standard of due process was met? Because that’s what numerous red flag laws allow.

The construction and mining equipment giant indicated its new global headquarters will be located at its existing office in Irving, Texas, near Dallas, according to a press release. The company is almost 100-years-old and was based in Peoria, Illinois, for many decades before moving in 2018 to Deerfield, near Chicago, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported. “We believe it’s in the best strategic interest of the company to make this move, which supports Caterpillar’s strategy for profitable growth as we help our customers build a better, more sustainable world,” Caterpillar CEO Jim Umpleby said in the statement issued by the company.

Georgia legislators passed a law in 2016 that forbids the state from contracting a person or company that promotes a boycott of Israel, but a federal judge struck that law down in May 2021. Abrams opposed the law as a state representative and reportedly refused to meet with pro-Israel activists at the time.
