Donald Trump’s lawyer Christina Bobb was instructed to certify to the justice department that all sensitive government documents stored at his Mar-a-Lago resort subpoenaed by a grand jury had been returned, though she had not herself conducted the search for the records. […] The saga around the Mar-a-Lago documents has become increasingly fraught in the courts as Trump has repeatedly claimed the FBI search and resultant investigation is politically motivated. Meanwhile, the justice department and Democrats have portrayed the taking of the documents as a potentially serious national security breach.

Bobb signed the certification as the “custodian of records” at the direction of another Trump lawyer, Evan Corcoran, and only later added caveats to make the declaration less ironclad since she had not conducted the search herself, according to three sources familiar with the matter.

Robby Mook cofounded the Defending Digital Democracy Project (D3P) at Harvard University’s Belfer Center in 2017 and remained a senior fellow there through the 2020 election, becoming a Belfer Center senior fellow in summer 2021. He’s also an adjunct lecturer in the Harvard Kennedy School. D3P participated in the Election Integrity Partnership, a private consortium founded “in consultation” with the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.[…] Mook’s project was among several left-of-center “[c]ivil society collaborators [who] submitted tips through the trusted partner tip line and interacted with the EIP research team through briefings, partner meetings, and shared findings,” according to the consortium’s after-action report. […] The DHS-backed consortium resembles the Chinese internet censorship described in Freedom House reports a decade ago, according to a former State Department official who was slated to be its first-ever digital freedom ambassador in a second Trump administration.

Like the politicians meekly following orders in the film, most of Washington has bowed to the CDC’s Covid edicts, but Paul has never tired of challenging the agency’s futile policies and dubious science.

Silverio: Colorado Claims 30,000 Voter Registration Notices Sent To Non-Citizens Were A Mistake

The Colorado Secretary of State’s Office said they mistakenly mailed thousands of voter registration notices to non-citizens. The Eligible But Unregistered (EBU) forms were sent to nearly 30,000 individuals with non-citizen Colorado driver’s licenses, CPR News reported. The state sends postcards to residents every two years if it is believed that they are not registered to vote. The card read, “Make sure your voice is heard this November,” and directed residents to register on the state website, the outlet reported.

President Joe Biden signed a March 2021 executive order pushing an all-of-government approach to expanding voter turnout, largely based on recommendations from Demos, a liberal think tank. Don’t forget that Biden already set the predicate earlier this year for probing outcomes his party doesn’t like when he declared the election “could easily be illegitimate.” […] In late 2020, a Demos policy brief called for the incoming Biden-Harris administration to use executive action to “strengthen Department of Justice’s enforcement of and guidance on voting rights statutes” and “pursue aggressive civil and criminal enforcement of federal voting rights protections.” The Biden Justice Department obliged, […] In response to Biden’s executive order, the Justice Department announced in May 2022 that it would provide “educational materials related to voter registration and voting” and “facilitate voter registration, for all eligible individuals in the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons.” Convicted felons have generally been a reliable Democrat voting bloc. With just a little over a month before Election Day, it will be interesting to see how political the Justice Department will be before and after the actual voting.

The recent Arizona Senate debate between Republican Blake Masters, Democrat Mark Kelly, and that Libertarian who was eerily focused on the age of consent laws being way too high, taught us two important things besides that you should never let a Libertarian babysit your tween. First, Mark Kelly is going to get crushed, and second, he’s short, and after Blake beats him in November, he should find something else to do with his life, like toiling for mithril in the mines of Moria or maybe bearing a ring to Mordor. Blake is surging, and he’s not alone. Foreign ownership of American farmland went from 1 percent in 2000 to 2.9 percent in 2020, a 290 percent increase over the past twenty years. With the rise in foreign ownership in American cropland come new security risks. Recently, Chinese companies have been buying agricultural land close to American military bases, raising concerns about their intentions.

Historically, the United States did not systematically collect data on foreign ownership of American agricultural land, largely because such ownership was minimal. Spurred by fears of OPEC countries buying American cropland in 1978, Congress passed the Agricultural Foreign Investment Disclosure Act (AFIDA) to track foreign ownership of American agricultural land. AFIDA requires foreign investors of American agricultural land to notify the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) of any acquisitions of American farmland. The USDA compiles these notices into a database that is used to create annual reports on foreign investment in American agriculture. While the annual reports are available to the public, the database listing all the individual parcels, while not confidential, is not widely accessible.

Just days after Vice President Kamala Harris suggested “giving resources based on equity” in providing hurricane relief, the Biden administration doubled down on its woke obsession with “equity.” The Biden Treasury Department announced the establishment of a new Treasury Advisory Committee on Racial Equity. Its mission will be to “identify, monitor and review aspects of the domestic economy that have directly and indirectly resulted in unfavorable conditions for Black, Latino, and Indigenous and Native American persons, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and other persons of color.”

It is no surprise that the committee is stacked with left-wing social justice progressives.

The State Department says it will consider providing gender dysphoria and gender transition care for diplomats and their children stationed overseas, stoking concerns in Congress that taxpayers will be responsible for funding sex change surgeries. The State Department will “assess resources for gender dysphoria and gender transition care at posts for employees and their dependents” in an effort to “increase support for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex (LGBTQI+) employees and family members,” according to a recently released Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) Strategic Plan. It is unclear at what phase the State Department’s assessment stands. The State Department would not answer Washington Free Beacon requests for further information about the type of care and potential surgeries it would be considering.

Greenfield: How the Dems Built a Non-Profit Local Fake News Machine

The Bucks County Standard warns Pennsylvania voters that Mastriano, the Republican gubernatorial candidate, “vows to ban abortion with no exceptions”. The paper informs readers that, “Patrice Martin, a registered Republican in Bucks County, called Mastriano ‘frightening,’ saying she was ‘all about’ Mastriano until she heard about his stance on abortion.” If you’ve never heard of the Bucks County Standard, no one there has heard of what is supposed to be the “trusted source for local news in the North Bucks County” area either. The ‘About Us’ page for the paper reveals that it’s actually the “Commonwealth Community Report” whose mission is to be “the voice for local news in Virginia” and that it’s a product of Local Report, Inc. Local Report, Inc is registered in Florida and has a mailing address in Orlando near a Publix and a YMCA. That’s quite a long way from Pennsylvania. […] Many Local Report articles come from The American Independent Founded by Clinton ally David Brock, it’s gone through different names and iterations, its president, Matt Fuehrmeyer, was the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s director of strategic communications, its VP, Jessica McCreight, worked on Hillary’s campaign and in Obama’s White House comms, Its outreach director also appears to also be the campaign manager for a Democrat congressional candidate. In other words, it’s a typical campaign operation. Except that, The American Independent Foundation is a 501(c)(3). Abusing its IRS non-profit status, it develops content that’s used by The American Independent, under the umbrella of True Blue Media, an organization funded by Brock’s American Bridge: a 501(c)(4).

Chung is still overseeing the criminal investigation into the bankrupt health care business from which James Biden allegedly siphoned hundreds of thousands of dollars to finance repairs to his beach house, even after President Joe Biden nominated the top prosecutor for a lifetime appointment as a federal appellate judge. And the assistant U.S. attorney leading the criminal investigation into the James Biden-connected business has now been tapped to replace Chung, according to sources. Attorney General Merrick Garland has ignored these blatant conflicts of interest just as he has spurned demands that he appoint a special counsel for the Delaware criminal investigation into the Biden family business dealings that implicate not just Hunter and James Biden, but the president of the United States. […] What the U.S. attorney’s press release failed to mention, however, was that Americore Health, LLC, which was a privately held Fort Lauderdale-based company closely connected to James Biden, owned ECMC, having taken over operations of the rural hospital in 2017. In fact, “in pitching the sale of Ellwood City Medical to Americore,” Americore’s CEO Grant White would reportedly “often drop Biden’s name.” […] That the U.S. attorney Joe Biden appointed to the job, and who has since been nominated by the president to a federal appellate clerkship, is overseeing this investigation is scandalous. Likewise, that the lead prosecutor in the case is on deck for Chung’s job creates a huge conflict of interest for the office. Attorney General Merrick Garland should immediately tap a special counsel to investigate Jim Biden’s involvement with Americore.

Since every financial transaction by a group could be considered a “violation” under the right circumstances, PayPal essentially announced its right to plunder the accounts of any group and any individual it deems guilty of crimethink. On Saturday afternoon, just a day after the planned changes broke, PayPal walked everything back, pathetically suggesting that the changes to its terms of service were the product of a typo. “Oops! Sorry about the mistake! Now please move along and stop asking questions.” Obviously, only an idiot would believe this. Friday’s leaked policies were no stray typo, but the product of substantial work. And there was nothing shocking about them. The Defender Staff: Hearing on Dr. Nass Suspension Set for Oct. 11 After Maine Medical Board Withdraws ‘Misinformation’ Allegations

Nass’s original suspension order included accusations of spreading “misinformation.” However, the board on Sept. 26 withdrew six of those accusations and, on Sept. 30, withdrew more of its factual allegations related to “misinformation.” Next week’s hearing will focus on Nass’s prescribing of hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin to treat COVID-19 and on record-keeping issues. There are no patient complaints for the board to review. According to her opening statement, Nass will introduce 286 pages of e-mails and letters from her patients and others, attesting to her competency, care and responsiveness to patient needs.

The spat began with an apparent non-sequitur, when Leavitt replied to a tweet from Ramirez over reports that PayPal planned to fine people for spreading “misinformation” — a story broken by Daily Wire reporter Ben Zeisloft. “Only women can be pregnant. Do I owe PayPal $2500 now?” Ramirez asked, to which Leavitt replied, “Why are you celebrating torture, rape, murder, and enslavement?” Leavitt appeared to be referencing another tweet in which Ramirez wished her followers a happy Columbus Day, and Ramirez responded . . . […] Leavitt responded by attempting to get some of his 330,000+ followers to harass Ramirez by reporting her to Child Protective Services.

During a meeting last year with two other council members and a union official, Martinez said Councilman Mike Bonin’s (D.) adopted black son is a “little monkey,” the New York Times reported. McEvoy: Republican Treasurers Pull $1 Billion From BlackRock Over Alleged Anti-Fossil Fuel Policies

Republican South Carolina State Treasurer Curtis Loftus is pulling $200 million from BlackRock by the end of 2022, and Louisiana treasurer John Schroder said on Oct. 5 that he is divesting $794 million from the company, according to the FT. Utah treasurer Marlo Oaks said he removed $100 million in funds from BlackRock’s control, and Arkansas treasurer Dennis Milligan pulled $125 million from the company in March. The treasurers are removing state funds from BlackRock as they believe that the investment firm, which manages roughly $8.5 trillion worth of assets, is placing its climate agenda above its responsibility to its shareholders, according to the FT. The federal government allotted millions of dollars to Providence, Rhode Island, to help combat the COVID-19 pandemic, but new reports show more than $23 million of the funding was used for racial equity, according to Fox News. AP: New Zealand proposes taxing cow burps, angering farmers

New Zealand’s government on Tuesday proposed taxing the greenhouse gasses that farm animals make from burping and peeing as part of a plan to tackle climate change. The government said the farm levy would be a world first, and that farmers should be able to recoup the cost by charging more for climate-friendly products. But farmers quickly condemned the plan. Federated Farmers, the industry’s main lobby group, said the plan would “rip the guts out of small town New Zealand” and see farms replaced with trees.
