Fairbanks: Democrat Gov. Hochul Legalizes Composting Human Remains in New York

New York is now the sixth state in the nation that has legalized the practice. The bill was introduced by Democrat State Assembly Member Amy Paulin and Democrat State Sen. Leroy Comrie. It states that “Natural Organic Reduction accelerates the process of biological decomposition in an above-ground container, naturally converting human remains to soil. The method will provide New Yorkers with the option of choosing an environmentally sustainable and cost-effective alternative to burial and cremation. Natural Organic Reduction was legalized in Washington State in 2019 and is currently going through legislative efforts in other states.” The process takes 60 days and works by placing a person’s remains in a vessel and filling it with a mix of wood chips, alfalfa, and straw. […] “Composting is something we as a society associate with a sustainable method of eliminating organic trash that otherwise ends up in landfills. But human bodies are not household waste, and the bishops do not believe that the process meets the standard of reverent treatment of our earthly remains,” Dennis Poust, executive director of the New York State Catholic Conference, told the Catholic Courier.

Zubatov: ChatGPT Is Seriously Woke A.I.

After playing around with ChatGPT, the artificial intelligence chatbot making waves for its potential to disrupt education by writing students’ term papers for them, I realized this machine was not exactly unbiased in its political leanings. Its biases, predictably, went in the same direction virtually all Silicon Valley biases tend to go. After a few quick Google searches—but who knows what additional information Google was keeping from me?—I stumbled on an article from Unherd fittingly titled “ChatGPT is not politically neutral.” The article described the results of some clever social science research courtesy of researcher David Rosado: “Presented with a choice of responses, ranging from ‘Strongly agree’ to ‘Strongly disagree’, the language model took stances on issues like immigration and identity politics which, overall, aligned it to what one test called the ‘establishment liberal’ position.” […] Either way, I thought people—especially people who lean right-of-center—really need to understand from a detailed example what interacting with this machine on a politically fraught subject is actually like. As I hope you’ll see after making your way through the example below, ChatGPT—and the larger artificial intelligence revolution it heralds—is an absolute menace to society, at least if accurate information and freedom of thought are values you hold dear.

Protesting U.S. policy in Central America, hecklers silenced ambassador Kirkpatrick at the University of California, Berkeley, and at the University of Minnesota. Imagine the aggression needed to silence Jeane Kirkpatrick! Smith College told her that it could not assure her safety during a commencement address, so the address was cancelled. Business as usual, you may be thinking. In fact, the reaction of campus administrators, and even of students themselves, to these shutdowns seems to come from a different world. The chancellor of the University of California announced his embarrassment that his university had “succumbed to mob rule.” […] Fast forward to 2015. A group of Yale students scream and curse at Yale sociologist Nicholas Christakis for what seems like an eternity, preventing him from addressing them. ‘Be quiet,’ shrieks one, ‘you are disgusting!’ Christakis had defended his wife, another Yale professor, who had suggested that students could choose their own Halloween costumes without bureaucratic oversight. […] In 2016, students at Atlanta’s Emory University demanded protection from a few Trump 2016 slogans that had been chalked on campus sidewalks. Trump’s name exacerbated the ‘unsafety of minority students,’ they said. […] In 2018 professors at the University of Chicago circulated a petition denouncing a planned debate between Steve Bannon and a business school professor. […] In June 2022, the dean of the University of Pennsylvania Law School asked the faculty senate to impose ‘major sanctions’ on tenured law professor Amy Wax (plausible translation: fire her!) because of the ‘severe harms’ she had inflicted on the Penn community with her challenges to campus orthodoxies regarding racial preferences, immigration, and sex differences. […] In 2021, . . . […] The private sector has become just as eager to prevent alleged harm to its employees from contrarian speech. […] So what has changed between the early 1980s and today?

It’s 2023, and two of America’s deep-blue governors are still having conniptions over the June 2022 U.S. Supreme Court ruling in New York State Rifle and Pistol Association vs. Bruen that threw out the need for a justifiable reason to receive a permit to carry a concealed weapon (CCW). While bound to follow the Bruen decision, both are doing everything they can to sidestep the ruling through legislative and executive fiat. New Jersey, New York, and California are America’s triumvirate of extremely gun unfriendly states. They are led by Democrat governors and legislatures that march to a progressive drumbeat, promote economic and social policies onerous to businesses large and small, and force their overtaxed, working residents to subsidize sanctuary policies that have turned their states into strongholds for illegal immigrants and vagrants. All three governors have retained their emergency powers into the post-pandemic era, reviving them as needed to invoke programs and policies that regulate many aspects of their constituents’ lives. Above all, they harbor an intense hatred for a citizenry under arms, in keeping with their dim view of the Founding Fathers who understood in framing the Second Amendment that to “disarm the people was the best and most effectual way to enslave them.”

The Illinois Supreme Court halted a statewide end to cash bail for criminal defendants in an eleventh-hour ruling just hours before the new law was expected to begin Sunday.The high court enacted a stay on the provisions of the legislation in response to an appeal the Illinois Attorney General’s Office filed Friday with the court of a local judge’s ruling — which found that the act was unconstitutional. The Supreme Court said its order was necessary to “maintain consistent pretrial procedures throughout Illinois” before it makes a decision on the law. It promised an “expedited process” to come to a decision.

The rules also prevent the National Archives from releasing committee records for at least 30 years. Sensitive records, such as those from a major investigation, can be held up to 50 years before being made public.

Leary: Jan. 6 Panel Withdraws Subpoena Issued to Trump

“Was just advised that the Unselect Committee of political Thugs has withdrawn the Subpoena of me concerning the January 6th Protest of the CROOKED 2020 Presidential Election,” Mr. Trump wrote Wednesday night in a social-media post. “They probably did so because they knew I did nothing wrong, or they were about to lose in Court.” In an October letter to Mr. Trump, the committee said its investigation showed that “you personally orchestrated and oversaw a multi-part effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election and to obstruct the peaceful transition of power.” The panel said it recognized that a subpoena to a former president “is a significant and historic action.” The House committee earlier this month voted to make a raft of criminal referrals to the Justice Department for Mr. Trump related to his attempt to overturn the presidential election. The criminal referrals are the first time such recommendations have been made against a former president.

Downs: Yet Another Batch of Twitter Files Released, This Time on COVID Cover-Up

On Tuesday afternoon, Matt Taibbi released another edition of the Twitter Files, to do with “How Twitter Let the Intelligence Community In” with regards to Russian disinformation. Later that same day, Taibbi released another edition, this time to do with “Twitter and the FBI ‘Belly Button,'” with the meaning behind the name revealed towards the end of the thread. This even longer and more intense batch has to do with COVID cover-up, with the virus having been covered before in previous editions. This time, however, Taibbi revealed how COVID tweets were flagged as misinformation associated with Russia.

Taibbi’s thread provides evidence, including screenshots, of how the Global Engagement Center (GEC), which he describes as “a fledgling analytic/intelligence arms of the State Department,” claimed to the media in February of 2020 that this was just one more thing to have to do with Russia. “Russian Disinformation Apparatus Taking Advantage of Coronavirus Concerns,” the report’s title read.

In Tuesday’s installment of the ongoing “Twitter Files,” independent journalist Matt Taibbi posted a Nov. 20, 2020, email regarding a request from the California Democrat’s office to suppress free speech on the social media platform. Taibbi called it an example of the “astonishing variety of requests from officials asking for individuals they didn’t like to be banned.” The journalist in question was Paul Sperry, a Post columnist who in January 2020 wrote an article for RealClearInvestigations about the purported “whistleblower” behind former President Donald Trump’s first impeachment, for which Schiff served as a House manager.

Men who are physically stronger are more likely to oppose wealth redistribution [7] and other forms of sociopolitical egalitarianism, even if they are poor themselves, and opposition to egalitarianism grows as men spend more time in the gym [8]. Similarly, men with more masculine facial features are more likely to support explicitly prejudiced ideas [9], and men who are better fighters are more likely to support warfare and hold “self-favoring” (non-Leftist) political beliefs [10]. In summary: Leftists are shorter and uglier, and Leftist men are weaker, less masculine, and less capable of fighting — characteristics that are not conducive to success in any human civilization.

[…] Elizabeth Warren lied about her background, just as George Santos did. When she is hounded out of office, then I will line up and call for Santos’s ouster. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) used to claim that he had served in Vietnam for the same sort of reason that Santos said he had a college degree and worked at Goldman Sachs. He thought the voters would like it. Back in 2008, Blumenthal told a crowd of voters, “We have learned something important since the days that I served in Vietnam.” The New York Times really outdid itself in the euphemism department when it reported on this. “His words . . . differ from history.” How delicately put! He “never served in Vietnam,” the paper acknowledged. In fact, “he obtained at least five military deferments from 1965 to 1970 and took repeated steps that enabled him to avoid going to war.” In other words, he lied. And what about Joe Biden?

The tool asks leading questions about school personnel and their faithfulness to queer theory, including encouraging sexual education teachers to have gender neutral anatomy, referring to boys as “body with a penis” and girls as “body with a vagina.” […] The CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health posted the “LGBTQ Inclusivity in Schools: A Self-Assessment Tool” to Twitter on Tuesday. As a self-assessment, the goal of the tool is to rate a teacher’s or school administrator’s commitment to the ideology and suggest places where the they can be better “allies.” While the CDC says the guide is not mandatory at a national level, it appears entirely possible that a school administrator could make it mandatory for their school.

Faithfulness to the ideology is measured on a “LGBTQ Inclusivity Continuum,” which rates persons as “commit to change,” “beginning to break through,” and “awesome ally.”

The response was swift, but not in the way you might expect: An Army officer at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey called state and local law enforcement and used base security forces to monitor the supposedly unsafe situation she had created in the school district where more than half of the students are children of active-duty military personnel.

California’s Temecula Valley Unified School District voted 3-2 to ban CRT just after a conservative majority had been sworn in. Howard: FDA decision on experimental Alzheimer’s drug expected this week

The US Food and Drug Administration could decide this week whether to grant accelerated approval to the experimental dementia drug lecanemab, according to Eisai and Biogen, the companies that make the drug. Lecanemab – one of the first experimental dementia drugs to appear to slow the progression of cognitive decline – has shown “potential” as an Alzheimer’s disease treatment, according to Phase 3 trial results, but raised safety concerns due to its association with certain serious adverse events, including brain swelling and bleeding. In July, the FDA accepted Eisai’s Biologics License Application for lecanemab under the accelerated approval pathway and granted the drug priority review, according to the company. The accelerated approval program allows for earlier approval of drugs that treat serious conditions and “fill an unmet medical need” while the drugs continue to be studied in larger and longer trials.

The FDA is expected to decide whether to grant accelerated approval to lecanemab by January 6, Eisai spokesperson Libby Holman confirmed to CNN.

[…] Perhaps Democrat voters in Boulder or Cherry Creek can open their homes to migrants and urban campers in the spirit of “open arms” as Hickenlooper suggests. I put the word in quotation marks for two reasons: it is the term used by Stanford, and it is an absurd term that deserves what we now call scare quotes but which we might just as well call ridicule quotes. If the reader has not heard, the Stanford University IT department’s “Elimination of Harmful Words Initiative” document was released recently, with its list of harmful words, suggested alternatives, and explanations for why the forbidden words are so bad. It was password-protected since most universities like to hide their more pernicious and idiotic behavior from public consumption. […] C’mon, guys! I’m on the warpath to get more Americans to save the English language. It shouldn’t surprise us if 2023 turns out to be atypical and disruptively transformational in ways few believe possible. Inflation will likely moderate but remain higher than recent averages. According to the report: It has come as no surprise that euthanasia is rapidly increasing. According to a 2021 article in The Journal of Medicine and Philosophy, safeguards were put in place regarding the legality of euthanasia, but it appears no monitoring is being done to make sure the safeguards are actually being followed.
