The Kentucky Senate approved a measure this week that would bar state and local law enforcement from enforcing any federal bans on firearms and their related accessories. The upper chamber approved the measure in a 27-9 vote, The Hill reported. The state House gave its approval, 78-19, in February and the legislation now heads to the desk of Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear. It is unclear whether he intends to sign it into law, though Republicans hold veto-proof majorities in both chambers of the legislature, as Ballotpedia notes.

McFarland: Feds Say Wyoming Man Has No Right To Make His Own Machine Gun

After a Wapiti man sued the federal government for the right to build his own machine gun, the federal government Monday said the Second Amendment doesn’t allow citizens to own machine guns. Jake Stanley DeWilde in January sued U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Explosives (ATF), saying the government wrongfully denied his application to build his own M16 machine gun and a federal ban on such weapons is unconstitutional. ‘Dangerous And Unusual’ The federal government in its Monday filing says that courts have consistently ruled that the Second Amendment protects weapons in “common use” but does not protect “dangerous and unusual weapons.” The U.S. Supreme Court has specifically singled out M16 rifles as dangerous and unusual, the counterclaim says.

The Department of Defense is grooming for-profit, media-rating grifters to develop AI censorship technology for the U.S. government, an investigation by The Federalist reveals. Open-source research reveals this troubling development is driving the warp-speed growth of the Censorship-Industrial Complex—and several other concerning details. Following last week’s congressional hearings on the Censorship-Industrial Complex, attention focused on the media-ratings giant NewsGuard and its relationship with the DOD after the company’s CEO declared it is not “government-funded.” But, as The Federalist reported, in 2020 NewsGuard received a $25,000 award from the federal government to conduct a pilot study, after winning the COVID-19 Disinformation Challenge. The prize package included the opportunity to learn the ropes of profiteering by participating in a “Government Contracting 101 session” and a “Small Business Innovation Research (SBIRC) crash course.” […] The managing director of the “accelerator program” declared, “In this new age of cyberwarfare and social manipulation, media monitoring, detection, and mitigation of misinformation operations is becoming more important than bombs and bullets,” stressing “PeakMetrics provides a unique monitoring and measuring tool to detect misinformation campaigns before they cause harm.” […] While we don’t know fully what the DOD intends to do with the NewsGuard and PeakMetrics technology, we do know the government has a history of silencing inconvenient speech by branding it “disinformation”—even when it is true and even if it is Americans expressing their views.

A Haunting Anniversary

Three years ago this week, our vibrant, noisy country went silent. Or, I should say, it was silenced. Businesses didn’t shutter due to a sudden economic crash—although one quickly followed—and highways weren’t empty due to a global fuel shortage. Schools didn’t close because of a nationwide teacher’s strike; parents and children didn’t hunker down in separate rooms of the same house over a nasty family fight. No, it was a man-made disaster the likes of which can only be compared to war. On March 16, 2020, President Donald Trump and his Coronavirus Task Force announced the infamous “15 Days to Slow the Spread.” For the first time in modern history, the free world, or so it was considered at the time, resorted to medieval methods to stop the unstoppable transmission of a novel contagion. Had there been enough time to farm a massive supply of leeches, the nation’s top government officials probably would have recommended bloodletting, too. “The new recommendations are simple to follow but will have a resounding impact on public health,” the official White House announcement read. “While the President leads a nationwide response, bringing together government resources and private-sector ingenuity, every American can help slow the virus’ spread and keep our most high-risk populations safe.” It is a day, and a decision, that will live in infamy. Trump, of course, is not solely responsible; Drs. Anthony Fauci and Deborah Birx shrewdly won the affection and trust of the American people early on, so any move contrary to their counsel would have created an even bigger crisis in the White House.

s President Joe Biden weighs whether to sign a law passed unanimously by Congress to declassify U.S. intelligence on the origins of the COVID-19 virus, new evidence has emerged that the State Department and National Institutes of Health routed at least $1.7 million in tax dollars to a Wuhan virology lab despite evidence it was tied to the Chinese military — and possibly the communist nation’s bioweapons program — according to government documents reviewed by Just the News. The United States first declared in a 2005 State Department document that communist China maintained an offensive biological weapons program in violation of its treaty commitments and that it was run in part by an arm of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Academy of Military Medical Sciences (AMMS). That report specifically cited the AMMS’ Fifth Institute as the epicenter of the country’s bioweapons program.

This week, a law went into effect allowing foreign nationals — here legally or illegally — to vote in D.C. municipal elections. The only requirement other than age to vote in D.C. elections now is living in the District of Columbia for 30 days. Most alarming about this new law is the foreign interference this law invites into the elections in our nation’s capital. Now, foreign nationals working at Russian, Chinese, and other embassies can vote in American elections. So much for concerns about foreign influence in American elections that was so en vogue in 2016.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen told Congress on Thursday the U.S. “banking system is sound” after two bank failures stirred economic fears. Yellen, who testified before the Senate Finance Committee about President Joe Biden’s proposed budget, began her remarks by addressing the abrupt collapse of Silicon Valley Bank in California and Signature Bank in New York. “I can reassure the members of the committee that our banking system remains sound, and that Americans can feel confident that their deposits will be there when they need them,” she said. “This week’s actions demonstrate our resolute commitment to ensure that depositors’ savings remain safe.”

The news is filled with stories about a U.S. health care system “plagued with shortages” of money for care, access to care, and doctor time. What they do not mention is the shortage of freedom. Americans are not free to select their preferred physician or choose the medicines they take into their bodies. Government bureaucrats, not physicians on the scene, triage critically ill patients based on “crisis standards of care”: non-physicians applying a checklist to decide who will live and who will die. Patients cannot choose who will operate on them, where, when, or even if. And of course, Americans cannot decide how to spend their health-care dollars — nameless, faceless bureaucrats do that. This is medical tyranny. Doctors are equally un-free. Your assigned physician (assuming there is one) does not choose your medications, a pharmacy benefits management (PBM) program does. Operations are performed where the health plan instructs, and by whom they choose. Providers for Medicare and Medicaid patients must simply accept the federal payment (“reimbursement”) schedule. […] Health-care systems exist to make and keep people healthy, and to save lives through timely medical care. The best demonstration of system failure is death by queue: dying waiting in line for technically possible care that is not provided in time, measured by wait times. Before the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was passed, the average maximum to see a primary care doctor was 99 days. After the ACA, wait time had increased to 122 days. Mercola: Vitamin D Reduces Cancer Deaths

There’s good news for those of you who have taken the proactive step to make sure you’re getting enough vitamin D. Several recent studies demonstrate vitamin D can significantly lower your cancer risk, both in terms of preventing cancer and in the treatment of cancer. In the first of these studies, 1 , 2 which included 25,871 patients, vitamin D supplementation was found to reduce the risk for metastatic cancer and death by 17 percent. The risk was reduced by as much as 38 percent among those who also maintained a healthy weight. This was a really poorly done study as they only gave participants 2,000 IUs a day and never measured their blood levels. Had there been no improvement, I would not have been surprised, but the fact is it still reduced metastatic cancer and death by 17 percent, and they found significant benefit among those who were not obese. This is pretty extraordinary but not as good as epidemiological studies that show a 50 percent to even 78 percent reduction in people who are vitamin D sufficient, as suggested in a study further below.

Sweet: Big banks create $30B rescue package for First Republic

Eleven of the biggest U.S. banks Thursday announced a $30 billion rescue package for First Republic Bank in an effort to prevent it from becoming the third to fail in less than a week and head off a broader banking crisis. San Francisco-based First Republic serves a similar clientele as Silicon Valley Bank, which failed last week after depositors withdrew about $40 billion in a matter of hours. New York’s Signature Bank was shuttered on Sunday. It appears that First Republic, which had deposits totaling $176.4 billion as of Dec. 31, was facing similar issues.

Daniel: Silicon Valley Bank’s Parent Company Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection

The filing comes after Silicon Valley Bank collapsed last week in the second largest bank failure in U.S. history. The firm had discharged assets at a loss from a portfolio containing long-term government and corporate bonds to supply depositors with their funds before the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation assumed control of the company.

Clayson: 14-Year-Old Hit Man In Custody After Allegedly Killing 8 People

The boy, known only by his nickname “El Chapito,” is accused of opening fire on a birthday party in Chimalhuacan, a poor suburb of Mexico City, according to the Los Angeles Times. The Jan. 22 incident reportedly left eight people dead and seven others injured, including two children. Another man has been detained in connection with the shooting as well as seven gang members on drug-related charges, the outlet stated. […] While the incident and the boy’s age is shocking, it is not the first time Mexico has seen the use of children in contract killings.
