The United Nations (UN) has apparently decided that 2025 will be the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation. Guterres delivered a fear-mongering March 22 speech to explain why 2025 has been so labeled:

The administration had argued that the president was akin to CEO managing a private corporation and therefore held the authority to require employees to get vaccinated, according to the Associated Press. The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, however, disagreed and reversed the decision of a panel that had sided with the administration. That panel included three judges from the Fifth Circuit, two of whom favored the government’s argument. The full appeals court, a group of sixteen judges, ruled Thursday.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on Thursday met with the mother of Ashli Babbitt, the woman shot and killed by a Capitol Police officer outside the Speaker’s Lobby on Jan. 6, 2021. McCarthy told reporters that Babbitt’s mom, Micki Witthoeft, “requested the meeting,” which took place in his office, just steps away from where her daughter was shot by Capitol Police officer Lt. Michael Byrd. “I felt like it was a good meeting,” Witthoeft told NBC News. “I thought Speaker McCarthy was delightful.” Witthoeft didn’t go into detail about the meeting but confirmed that the two discussed a comment made by McCarthy last month in which he expressed his support of Byrd’s use of lethal force.

Yet, she still caucuses with the Democrats, admitting here that she only does so to keep her committee assignments. Why not just caucus with the Republicans? The answer is probably her concern for seniority on committees given the GOP doesn’t control the Senate. But what these comments make me curious about is whether she had plans to caucus with Republicans until they blew the 2022 election. Further, does she plan to strike up an alliance going into a very unsteady 2024 re-election campaign?

Things could get very interesting in Arizona if multiple Republican senators come out and endorse Sinema as an Independent over whoever the Republican nominee is.

Republican Georgia and Iowa lawmakers sent bills banning sex-change procedures for minors to their governors’ desks this week. Iowa has passed its bill into law, while Georgia’s bill awaits Gov. Brian Kemp’s signature. Kemp has not said whether he’ll sign it. Georgia Senate Bill 140, which passed along party lines, prohibits injecting children with hormones and surgically mutilating their bodies “for the treatment of gender dysphoria.” Doctors may still be able to prescribe puberty-blocking drugs, however, as the bill only blocks “irreversible procedures or therapies.” Puberty blockers do inflict irreversible physical damage, but their proponents claim otherwise. Parental rights advocates still welcome the bill as a step in the right direction. […] Georgia and Iowa join eight other states that have passed protections for children from sex-change surgeries, including Mississippi, Florida, Utah, Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, South Dakota, and Tennessee. Missouri and Kentucky’s legislatures have passed similar bills that are awaiting their governors’ signatures.

This April marks 40 years since my therapist told me a “sex change” was the only answer to my persistent mental difficulties. Unfortunately, I followed his advice, obtained cross-sex hormones, and underwent surgery. As I learned through my painful experience, “gender-affirming treatment” (GAT), also known as “gender-affirming care,” is medical fraud and malpractice. A person’s sex cannot be changed. I know. I lived and identified as a woman for eight years. Hormones and surgery didn’t change my sex. I was a man before surgery, and I remained a man after surgery, illustrating the truth of God’s perfect design — two separate and distinct sexes, male and female, innate and unchangeable. Every step I took to identify as a female did not make me a female but devaluated me as a man, father, and husband. Each step dehumanized my male body and identity. So-called gender-affirming treatment destroyed my life and relationships, as well as those of my family. The same thing is happening to people today, except at younger ages. I know. I get their emails. […] The legacy medical establishment pushes radical, risky medicalization, sterilization, and removal of healthy body parts as the only effective treatment for youth — no counseling, no diagnosis and treatment of co-existing disorders, little discussion of the risks and harms, no waiting, no alternatives. Hospitals apparently salivate over the money to be made by gender clinics, as seen in the video from Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Pediatric Transgender Clinic in Nashville, Tennessee, in which a doctor describes the surgeries as a “huge money maker” for the hospital.

Careers alone don’t usually fulfill men—and they certainly don’t fulfill women. “Be fruitful and multiply,” God told Adam and Eve in Genesis 1:28, and God knew what he was doing. An unearthed 2010 study estimated that 90% of childless women actually didn’t choose not to be mothers. […] As the great GK Chesterton so wisely observed, “I do not deny that women have been wronged and even tortured; but I doubt if they were ever tortured so much as they are tortured now by the absurd modern attempt to make them domestic empresses and competitive clerks at the same time…How can it be a large career to tell other people’s children about the Rule of Three, and a small career to tell one’s own children about the universe?” Being a mother is the most important “job” a woman can have. If only more modern women realized that before it’s too late.

Al-Gharbi: How to Understand the Well-Being Gap between Liberals and Conservatives

In a recent essay for Social Science & Medicine–Mental Health, epidemiologist Catherine Gimbrone and coauthors identified a significant gap in depressive attitudes between liberal and conservative teens. This gap was present in all years observed in the study (2005–18). It grew significantly starting in 2012, however, as depressive affect unilaterally spiked among liberals. Three years later, conservatives also began reporting increases in depression—although that rise tapered off relatively quickly while the increases among liberals continued. Liberal girls tended to be significantly more depressed than boys, particularly after 2011. However, ideological differences swamped gender differences. Indeed, liberal boys were significantly more likely to report depression than conservatives of either gender. The authors also found that the more educated a teen’s family was, the more likely the young people were to be depressed, and the more dramatic their rise in depression was after 2012. Why is it that liberal teens are more consistently depressed than conservatives? Why might familial education correlate with heightened depression for liberal youth? Why was there a spike in depression (and a growing ideological divergence in depressive affect) after 2011, corresponding with the onset of the “Great Awokening”? This essay will provide a deep dive into the literature on the relationship between ideology and subjective well-being in the hopes of shedding light on possible answers to these questions. Conservatives Are Happier than Liberals

Although the study by Gimbrone et al. was focused on trends among young people, the well-being gap between conservatives and liberals is not unique to youth. The gap manifests clearly across all age groups and is present as far back as the polling goes. In the General Social Survey, for instance, there has been a consistent 10 percentage point gap between the share of conservatives versus liberals who report being “very happy” in virtually every iteration since 1972 (when the GSS was launched).
