New York City Mayor Eric Adams has targeted city residents’ diets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Unbeknownst to most of us. consuming foods that emit too much carbon into the atmosphere will kill us someday. So Adams will push New Yorkers to eat more fruits, veggies, nuts, and beans. Apparently, the methane gas released by everyone eating beans doesn’t count as “true” emissions. Nevertheless, the mayor — a vegetarian — will try to push New Yorkers to give up meat and dairy products and switch to plant-based foods for sustenance “Food is the third-biggest source of cities’ emissions right after buildings and transportation. […] This isn’t the first time that a New York City mayor has tried to get New Yorkers to eat healthier. In 2012, former mayor Michael Bloomberg unsuccessfully tried to institute a wide-scale ban on large sodas and other sugary drinks. The nationwide outrage that resulted ended up derailing any presidential hopes Bloomberg had. There will be a “household consumption tracker” to let New York residents see how well they’re doing in reducing their carbon footprint. How the city is going to measure that may be something of a problem.

Khan: Copper Shortage Threatens Green Transition

Metal markets seem to think copper is the new lithium. A lack of new mining activity has added to worries that there won’t be enough of the red metal for the energy transition, a popular topic at this week’s World Copper Conference in Santiago, Chile. South America currently dominates copper production and Chile is the largest mined producer. Increasing mine output has proved a challenge, prompting a wave of deal making in the industry and warnings of a serious supply shortfall over the next decade. Copper is used in wiring and construction as well as electric vehicles, solar panels and other green technologies. Electrification is expected to increase annual copper demand to 36.6 million metric tons by 2031, with supply forecast to be around 30.1 million tons, creating a 6.5 million ton shortfall at the start of the next decade, according to consulting firm McKinsey & Co.

If there is anyone who still thinks there isn’t a political element to the overwhelming thrust to keep the mRNA jabs coming, consider this: A new study reported on the website for the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP) finds that “many younger U.S. women say flu and COVID vaccines are not safe in pregnancy.” The first thing we notice is that the report nonchalantly groups the flu vaccine in with the COVID jab. Linking these two is obvious propaganda to force an association between an actual vaccine and the mRNA jab, with the hope of convincing the public that there is no difference between them.

The study begins by telling us that 17% of women of child-bearing age do not believe the flu vaccine is safe for women and their fetuses during pregnancy. However, “skepticism was even more evident in the COVID-19 vaccine findings” with 31% saying the jab is not safe. They go on to report that the results depend on vaccination status: The unvaccinated are more likely to believe a flu vaccine or COVID jab are unsafe, and the vaccinated are more likely to think they’re safe. Apparently, they needed a study to figure that out. But it doesn’t end there. The lead author of the report probably plans to use the data to support a new public health push that hasn’t been revealed yet: . . . […] Reading between the lines, we can conclude that the unvaccinated are uneducated, mentally ill (or associating with someone who is), and are conspiracy theorists suspicious of the CDC and likely have access to guns. With this telltale reasoning, we should not be surprised to learn that the report comes from the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania. The center is a project of the Annenberg Foundation, funded in part by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. […] With so many women realizing the jab affected their menstrual cycles, it is hardly irrational of them to be concerned with possible effects on pregnancy.

Roger Marshall is warning that a new virus could break out of China and cause another worldwide pandemic as he releases “Muddy Waters,” a comprehensive new report on the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic. The ranking member of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee and staff reviewed more than 50,000 documents for the report, which found that the COVID-19 virus was created in a lab and the outbreak was likely the result of two unintentional lab leaks. “This report concludes most likely this was two leaks,” Marshall said during a briefing with reporters ahead of the release of the report. “The possibility of a lab leak in the September-October [2019] time frame, even as early as July or August, was followed by vaccine development in November 2019. And then another lab leak seems to be the most sensible explanation in this retrospective review.”

Americans who have not yet been vaccinated can now receive only a single dose of the newer “bivalent” vaccines, which supposedly work better against the Omicron strain -though real-world evidence of their improved effectiveness is nearly nonexistent. As COVID ramped up in the spring of 2020, the media insisted hospitals were overflowing with patients, but that’s not what Macrae saw firsthand. “They were never full of patients. As a matter of fact, from the onset of COVID, for the whole first year of this pandemic not only was our hospital under capacity, but I was getting canceled,” she said.

Lowry: DeSantis is not dead yet

The Ron DeSantis presidential campaign sure was good while it lasted. The conventional wisdom has turned so decidedly against the Florida governor that he’s getting buried a couple of months before he even announces. There’s flaming out on the launch pad, and there’s flaming out while you’re drinking a cup of coffee early in the morning at your home before getting in a car to drive to Cape Canaveral to check in for your mission. It’s the latter that’s supposedly happening to DeSantis. This is a bit much. Rumors of his political death are not just greatly exaggerated, they are absurdly overwrought, although that’s what a bout of bad national polling will do.

The Daily Caller reports that the original policy, first enacted in 2018, forbade users from engaging in “targeted misgendering or deadnaming of transgender individuals.” The new guidelines have removed this sentence altogether from the “Slurs and Tropes” section. “We prohibit targeting others with repeated slurs, tropes or other content that intends to degrade or reinforce negative or harmful stereotypes about a protected category,” read the original rules. “This includes targeted misgendering or deadnaming of transgender individuals.” The latter sentence is no longer found on the page. The move is yet another representation of Elon Musk’s efforts to shift Twitter back towards a pro-free speech policy, as well as to increase transparency on the site, both of which were key promises he made when he first set out to buy Twitter last year.

Wilson: Knowles Unfazed As Pro-Trans Protesters Bid to Disrupt Pitt Debate

Hundreds of pro-transgenderism protesters tried to disrupt a Tuesday night debate featuring The Daily Wire’s Michael Knowles at the University of Pittsburgh, setting off smoke bombs and chanting in an effort to derail the event. Knowles was at the school’s O’Hara Student Center to debate journalist Brad Polumbo in an event sponsored by the Pitt College Republicans and billed as “Should transgenderism be regulated by law?” Inside the event, which was posted on YouTube, protesters shouted “Trans rights are human rights” as Knowles began to speak. “There they are,” Knowles quipped. “That sounds like they’ve gotten into harmony. It’s not even melody anymore. I guess there was an opening act.”

The U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments Tuesday in a case testing how far employers must go to accommodate the religious views of their employees. Federal civil rights law requires employers to reasonably accommodate the religious beliefs of workers as long as that accommodation does not impose an “undue hardship” on the employer’s business. Nearly a half-century ago, the Supreme Court defined an undue hardship as a substantial additional cost, but it also said that the cost need not be more than a de minimis amount, defined in the dictionary as a trifling amount. That language has long angered religious groups of all kinds. And now they are pressing the conservative Supreme Court supermajority to overrule or modify its prior ruling. The number of young children under five who have died from overdoses in the United States has increased significantly in the past few years, according to a new study published in the journal Pediatrics. The highest number of those fatal poisonings of children comes from opioids. The study, which relied on records for all children five and younger from the National Fatality Review-Case Reporting System, showed that two-fifths of the children who died were infants and that 65 percent of those deaths happened at home. Nearly a third of those occurred under the supervision of someone who was not their biological parent, as in the case of Zhuri. We have looked the other way as opioid addiction and abuse in the U.S. has gone from zero to a grotesque and infinite epidemic. It now endangers every aspect of life. Our public health has degraded, our economic output has suffered, and our national security has been breached so brazenly and without consequence that it is hard to grasp. Even infants are not safe. Yet we do nothing.

The struggle against transgenderism is a spiritual struggle. I n a video that achieved its five minutes of viral fame last week, Webster Barnaby, a pastor and a Republican Florida State Representative, denounced the transgender movement at a legislative hearing. He held nothing back. “The Lord Rebuke you Satan and all of your demons and all of your imps,” intoned Barnaby, referring to the transgender people present. “We have people who live among us today on planet Earth who are happy to display themselves as mutants from another planet.” This is, needless to say, strong language for the public discourse in 2023. And since it is in fact 2023, Barnaby later walked back part of his statement. But it was language that resonated with many—because Representative Barnaby had recognized and given voice to the fact, which is now becoming inescapably clear, that transgenderism is not simply the latest culture war social issue. It is a fundamental transgression against God and nature.

Peters, the conservatives who birthed the whole trans controversy have got their cold-hearted strategy down. The article is pure propaganda. Besides calling the right’s pushback against science-denial and the sterilization of kids an “effort to restrict transgender rights” and a “focus on perceived threats to impressionable children,” the piece cites a Media Matters activist who declares without evidence that these efforts are a product of “general animus” toward transgender-identifying people.

An analysis of uncounted provisional ballots shows the 2022 Arizona attorney general’s race may be called for GOP nominee Abe Hamadeh instead of the now-Democratic Attorney General Kris Mayes. Hamadeh is challenging the election in court, suing Mayes to ensure all votes were counted in their midterm election contest, which Hamadeh lost by just 280 votes, according to an automatic statewide recount. Last week, Mohave County Superior Court scheduled oral arguments on May 16 for Hamadeh’s motion for a new trial, which he filed after learning that vote total discrepancies in Pinal County were allegedly not brought to the attention of his legal team or the judge in his initial election challenge.

But what may surprise you is that you’ll first often have to hire a professional archaeologist to survey the lot. The archaeologist will then write the equivalent of an academic article on the history of the lot, from its “prehistoric context” to the present day, including a review of any similar reports about surrounding lots. (One project found 60 such reports for nearby properties.) If evidence exists that something old may be present on the lot, the archaeologist will have to write either one or two more reports, which will include “oral histories” from people who may have walked across the lot and descriptions of any agreements with Native American tribes to supervise digging—for research, not development. If some clay pipes or old bricks are found, you may have to pay for archaeological and Native American monitoring during construction itself and then provide yet another report, which will describe, among other things, how you arranged for “mandatory cultural resources sensitivity training” for your construction workers. The official county archaeologist will then decide whether your report was adequate before allowing the normal building permits—provided, of course, that no problems are found with your paleontological, biological, or other reports. In late 2022, the U.S. Virgin Islands filed a lawsuit against JPMorgan Chase for alleging the bank profited from Epstein’s sex trafficking scheme. The lawsuit also accuses JPMorgan of “turning a blind eye” to suspicious activity that occurred from Epstein’s account.

There is one area of the decline of citizenship that Hanson’s book does not address, however, and which merits attention: the establishment of the legal qualifications for voting, which have increasingly been eroded in recent decades by guaranteeing the franchise to ex-felons.

Lawless: UK says Russian hackers aim to attack key infrastructure

Britain’s National Cyber Security Centre issued an official threat notice to operators of Britain’s electricity, water and other critical systems, telling them to boost their defenses. “I don’t think we are yet doing enough to protect our infrastructure from the cyber threats emerging from Russia-aligning groups,” the center’s chief, Lindy Cameron, said. Cabinet Minister Oliver Dowden said the threat comes from hackers sympathetic to Russia though not necessarily directed by the Russian state. He described them as the cyber equivalent of the Wagner Group, the private Russian company with mercenaries fighting in Ukraine.

Reduxx has now identified the man with the help of members of the community, and learned he is a convicted child sex offender. Jeremy Melvin Carlson now goes by Rylie Otter — sometimes spelling his first name “Rhylie” or “Rhiley.” In 2019, Carlson, who was 28 at the time, was sentenced to 14 months in jail and 24 months probation for sexual interference against a young person.
