While the socialist in question—Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, popularly referred to as “AOC”—is known for making ludicrous statements in pursuit of absurd policies (like the Green New Deal), even die-hard environmentalists ought to be concerned to hear their elected representatives ask such misanthropic questions. AOC’s musings aside, that very proposal isn’t new; in fact, these kinds of radical schemes have been pushed by socialists and so-called Progressives for over a century—often by force. The ideology called environmentalism can even trace its roots back to eugenics, the government-supported scheme to “beautify” America through forced sterilization of people “manifestly unfit” to be Americans. Terrifyingly, the ideology of eugenics that inspired Nazis like Josef Mengele to put their racial superiority theories to the test on human experiments is still well and alive. Today, it’s called “population control,” and it’s pushed by professional activists funded with tens of millions of dollars from major left-wing funders like the Gates and Rockefeller Foundations. It might seem implausible that major foundations known for their charitable endowments would be involved with such an abhorrent cause. Philanthropy, however, has always pushed for social change—sometimes too far. As Hudson Institute senior fellow William Schambra put it in 2013, “Eugenics was American philanthropy’s first great global success.” […] The Population Council was created in 1952 by John D. Rockefeller III, grandson of the famous oil tycoon and founder of the Rockefeller Foundation. Anderson: Biden Spent $1 Billion To Get Schools Electric Buses. This Michigan District Says Theirs Hardly Work.
Michigan’s fourth-largest school district is having “significant” performance issues with its expensive electric buses, issues that come after the Biden administration spent $1 billion to “transform America’s school bus fleet” with electric models. During an April 19 presentation to the Ann Arbor Public Schools Board of Education, the district’s environmental sustainability director, Emile Lauzzana, highlighted a number of issues with the district’s electric bus fleet. Those buses, Lauzzana said, have “a lot of downtime and performance issues” and aren’t “fully on the road,” despite the fact that they are “approximately five times more expensive than regular buses.” The infrastructure upgrades required to use the buses, meanwhile, were “originally estimated to be only about $50,000” but “ended up being more like $200,000,” according to Lauzzana. “I have a number of colleagues in different states who are facing similar challenges,” the district official lamented. “For the school bus market, it’s been challenging for us.” […] “Michigan Democrats have put the (electric) cart before the horse. The technology and infrastructure for electric buses do not exist at this moment … yet Democrats and school districts insist on purchasing electric buses,” the group’s communications director, Mary Drabik, told the Washington Free Beacon. “This backward approach to policy only creates more costly problems for residents. As long as Democrats continue to spend the tax dollars of hard-working Michiganders, it will be the residents that truly suffer, not the environment.”

Earlier this month, I reported that New Jersey Republicans were demanding that construction on offshore wind farm projects be halted for up to 60 days to see if it will reduce the number of whales washing up dead on East Coast beaches. Now 50 mayors from the Blue States along the East Coast, where marine mammals continue to wash ashore dead, are also calling for a moratorium. Dozens of East Coast mayors representing cities in three Democratic-led states — New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland — are calling for an offshore wind development moratorium in light of recent marine wildlife deaths. […] The messaging is becoming more urgent as half a dozen marine mammals, including four dolphins, have washed up dead in New Jersey in four days. […] Environmentalists and some political groups have suggested that offshore wind development in the area could be responsible for the injuries.There is no evidence to support this, however, and NOAA Fisheries has reiterated that the development should not be harming marine life. Meanwhile, a multibillion-dollar energy developer has wired tens of thousands of dollars to Democratic Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine’s campaign in recent years while aggressively pushing a massive offshore wind project off that state’s coast.

The great birds will be legally slaughtered “unintentionally” by lethal wind turbines installed in their breeding territories, and in “dispersion areas” where their young congregate (e.g. Altamont Pass). By chance (if you believe in coincidences), a timely government study claims wind farms will kill “only” 1.4 million birds yearly by 2030. This new report is just one of many, financed with taxpayers’ money, aimed at convincing the public that additional mortality caused by wind plants is sustainable. – It is not. […] Save the Eagles International (STEI) has posted photographs of raptors perched on nacelles or nonmoving blades , and ospreys building a nest on a decommissioned turbine. Moving blades don’t deter them either: videos show a turkey vulture perched on the hub of a spinning turbine, and a griffon vulture being struck. Birds perceive areas traveled by spinning blades as open space, unaware that blade tips are moving at up to 180 mph. Many are focused on prey. These factors make wind turbines “ecological death traps,” wherever they are located.

Trump’s handling of classified documents have issued a subpoena for information about Mr. Trump’s business dealings in foreign countries since he took office, according to two people familiar with the matter. It remains unclear precisely what the prosecutors were hoping to find by sending the subpoena to Mr. Trump’s company, the Trump Organization, or when it was issued. But the subpoena suggests that investigators have cast a wider net than previously understood as they scrutinize whether he broke the law in taking sensitive government materials with him upon leaving the White House and then not fully complying with demands for their return.

Kandula no longer faces charges of threatening the president, vice president, and so on, but now he only faces a single count of depredation of property of the United States. James Comer announced on Wednesday that FBI Director Christopher Wray has ignored a congressional subpoena for an FD-1023 form that allegedly provides evidence of a bribery scheme involving then-Vice President Joe Biden. As RedState reported, House Republicans had previously confirmed the existence of the form and moved to subpoena it after the FBI refused to cooperate in Congress’ investigation. Wray has now unilaterally decided that he doesn’t have to obey that subpoena, which would seem to be a problem given others have been prosecuted for ignoring them

The launch was due to take place on Wednesday at 6pm Eastern Time. Yet Twitter was unable to cope with the traffic, and the servers repeatedly crashed. The event was initially delayed by several minutes, and when it began the audio frequently cut out. Moderator David Sacks said so many people were trying to listen that it was ‘melting the internet’. By 6:30pm, the audio was down and DeSantis was yet to utter a word. They began again around 10 minutes later. The internet erupted in mockery.

Valentine: Why Kari Lake Couldn’t Close the Deal
Ballot-harvesting is not the problem. Signature verification is not the problem. Jacking with the voter database days before the vote is not the problem. Phantom voters — by the tens of thousands — are not the problem. Election commissions allowing third parties real-time visibility to the voter cast ballot list to vote the recalcitrants is not the problem. U.S. Postal Service employees gathering loose ballots for leftist groups is not the problem. The problem is that leftists control the entire election apparatus in every swing state, and they have innumerable tools — like those just noted — to steal any election. The Kari Lake election showed that the leftists will use all of them when needed. The Kari Lake election is equally a template for 2024 because Lake’s reaction is to take Arizona back by “chasing ballots.” That is the same strategy President Trump is employing — he calls it ballot-harvesting, being a bit looser with vocabulary.
Leftists are jumping for joy as Lake and Trump take the bait — outperform the pros at ballot-harvesting, when they have a dozen other ways to steal an election. None of those ways is addressed by Lake or Trump. They do not even understand them. How about real-time, or close to it, snapshots of state voter rolls — especially . . . […] What about the real-time access to state election systems to . . . […] How about testing, real time, to stop . . . […] How about comparing the election rolls to the property tax rolls to make sure . . .[…] We’re not done. What about the real-time access to state . . . […] Perhaps instead of trying to “out-ballot-harvest” the professionals, it might make sense to out-compute them, stop their fraud apparatus in flight — something some of us know something about.

The IRS whistleblower who alleges there has been political interference in the Justice Department’s investigation of Hunter Biden will testify to the House Ways and Means Committee behind closed doors on Friday, Just the News has learned. Supervisory Criminal Investigative Agent Gary Shapley will be allowed to talk about the specifics of what has happened in the five-year long investigation of the first son. Christian Adams, president of the election integrity law firm Public Interest Legal Foundation, told Just the News on Wednesday that the lawyers “prosecuting these cases are extremely unfamiliar with bringing them” because “they don’t have experience in election law” or “prosecuting voter cases.” As a result, they “plea down” because they’re afraid of the defense’s argument, Adams said.

Although the government did not name Guam, Microsoft stated that it had uncovered the breach ‘while investigating intrusion activity impacting a US port.’ Tom Burt, the executive who oversees Microsoft’s threat intelligence unit, told The New York Times that as they traced its impact they found numerous networks that were hit including some in the telecommunications sector in Guam.’

Charles “C.Q.” Brown Jr. to serve as the next chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the president is expected to announce Thursday in a White House Rose Garden ceremony. Brown is currently the Air Force chief of staff. The position is the nation’s highest-ranking military officer, and the chairman is the primary military adviser to the president, as well as to the defense secretary and National Security Council. What about organs harvested from a “brain dead“ organ donor? Brain death is a legal fiction, a term that was coined in 1968 when a group of doctors at Harvard Medical School decided that people in an irreversible coma could be declared dead for use as organ donors. People in a coma are still biologically alive, with beating hearts, and their spirits are still incorporated within their bodies. The fact that people have survived a diagnosis of brain death and have gone on to live normal lives bears this out. These people are alive when brought to the operating room and respond to surgery like any other patient, as I saw firsthand during my anesthesiology training. Calling these people dead is a lie, and even though removing their beating hearts is legal under the Uniform Determination of Death Act, it is morally wrong. Knowing these facts, I could not ethically receive an organ from a “brain dead” person without being complicit in their murder.

Its investigation letter contends that the act of screening books intended for middle school children for graphic sex acts “created a hostile environment for students” because “board meetings conveyed the impression that books were being screened to exclude diverse authors and characters, including people who are LGBTQI+ and authors who are not white.”Just trying to protect children from pornography and racism is discriminatory, even if not a single discriminatory act can be shown to have occurred, simply because the local leftists say so.

Duggan: Major Journal Retracts Study On ‘Socially Contagious’ Transgenderism Among Kids Following Activist Threats
Springer’s Archives of Sexual Behavior is retracting a major academic paper that explores the “socially contagious” aspect of youth transgenderism following threats from transgender activists, according to documents reviewed by the Daily Caller News Foundation. The paper, titled “Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria: Parent Reports on 1655 Possible Cases,” found that children who suddenly adopted transgender identities in adolescence skewed heavily female and frequently had preexisting mental health issues. The journal has claimed the retraction is due to researchers’ failure to obtain written informed consent from survey participants, but Dr. Michael Bailey, one of the study’s authors, disputes this explanation and believes the journal is caving to pressure from activists.

A major review quietly re-shared by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) last August suggests that early exposure to testosterone means trans women possess at least eight physical and mental attributes that could give them an advantage in sports — even if they make the change relatively early. Findings showed trans women had greater muscle mass and bone density, which aid strength, power and durability, plus bigger lungs and higher oxygen levels, which help with endurance, as well as increased connections in the brain responsible for spatial awareness, which could help with agility. The research, by experts from the University of Otago in New Zealand, concluded: ‘The former male physiology of trans women athletes provides them with a physiological advantage over the cis-female athlete.’ The paper adds: ‘The inclusion of trans women in the elite female division needs to be reconsidered for fairness to female-born athletes.’

Tabachniec: Catholic clergy in Illinois sexually abused more than 1,900 minors, state attorney general says in report
An investigation has substantiated child abuse claims against Catholic clergy in Illinois by more than 1,900 victims, state Attorney General Kwame Raoul said in a news conference detailing the findings of the office’s five-year investigation that uncovered hundreds more cases than first reported by the dioceses in 2018.
More than 100,000 pages of diocesan documents and 600 confidential contacts with survivors of child sex abuse helped the state’s office piece together the 696-page report released Tuesday on clergy sexual abuse in all six Catholic dioceses in Illinois, the office said. “It is my hope that this nearly 700-page report will provide some closure to survivors of child sex abuse by Catholic clerics by shining a light both on those who violated their positions of power and trust, and on the individuals in church leadership who covered up that abuse,” Raoul said in a statement.

Arama: Memorial Day Is Here: That’s Bad News for Bud Light as They Try to Give Away Their Beer for Free
Now they’re even offering to sell beer for free. Ahead of the Memorial Day weekend, Bud Light revealed a new promotion called the US Budweiser Family Memorial Day Rebate online for customers from eligible states. The rebate promises an amount “equivalent to the purchase price of one (1) 15-pack or larger, up to $15” of Bud Light, Budweiser, Budweiser Select or Budweiser Select 55 paid via Anheuser-Busch Digital Prepaid Mastercard. Based on recent prices for Bud Light products, however, in some cases this would be giving packs of beer away for free. Online searches of local beer retailers find many offers under $15 for 15-packs or larger of these Budweiser products, making the products free after rebate, excluding sales tax or any state restrictions. The rebate applies through May 31, so that they can do all they can to jack up the sales for Memorial Day.

Kerr: Black Lives Matter Hemorrhaged Cash in 2022, Tax Documents Show
Black Lives Matter bled cash and suffered blistering investment losses in 2022, according to a copy of its tax return obtained by the Washington Free Beacon. Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation ran an $8.5 million deficit and saw the value of its investment accounts plummet by nearly $10 million in the most recent tax year, financial disclosures show. The group logged a $961,000 loss on a securities sale of $172,000, suggesting the charity weathered a staggering 85 percent loss on the transaction. These troubles didn’t stop BLM from doling out seven-figure contracts to friends and family of its former executive director Patrisse Cullors, who once said charity financial disclosures were “triggering” and “deeply unsafe.” It’s no surprise that Cullors was so fearful of disclosing Black Lives Matter’s finances to the public. The revelations in Black Lives Matter’s latest Form 990 show that the group is on the fast track to financial insolvency, and that the excesses of Cullors’s tenure have not abated under her chosen successor, Shalomyah Bowers.

Norway appears to be making progress in drawing back some of its practices in carrying out child sex changes, with the Norwegian Healthcare Investigation Board saying that it plans to revise its current guidelines concerning “gender-affirming care” for minors because it no longer considers the research to be evidence-based, per the Washington Examiner. The board has also suggested that the growing number of teenage girls identifying as male after puberty is still an area that remains under-studied. According to the report, the use of puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and transition-related surgery would be reserved only for research contexts and no longer provided in medical settings.

The love of light rail is alive in France with a new policy that bans short domestic flights when passengers have the option to take a train. But, as is par for the course when the climate crazies get to make policy, it’s not convenient for some travelers. […] We shouldn’t be surprised at this symbolic and utterly ineffective move by the French. These people will pat themselves on the backs even though they’re doing nothing to solve the problem they’re so worried about. It’s exactly how the left handles every other situation.
Chasan: Paralyzed man walks again using implants connecting brain with spinal cord
A 40-year-old man whose legs were paralyzed in a cycling accident 12 years ago can walk again thanks to implants in his brain and spinal cord. The brain-spine interface (BSI) has remained stable for a year, allowing Gert-Jan Oskam to stand, walk, climb stairs and traverse complex terrains, according to a study published Wednesday in the journal Nature. Oskam even regains some control over his legs when the BSI is turned off. “My wish was to walk again and I believed it was possible,” Oskam said during a news briefing.
