It’s obvious when Ireland, Holland, and Oregon come for the cows that provide dairy and meat for people. It’s also obvious when the sinister World Economic Forum keeps insisting that we learn to enjoy bugs (while they enjoy filet mignon, of course). There are other ways to attack food, though. One such way is to give the government control over CO2 in the atmosphere, which is what could happen thanks to the Biden administration’s plan to fund a project that will vacuum that life-giving chemical compound from the atmosphere. […] Considering that much of the climate change movement is now focused on cleaning up earth’s worst parasite—i.e., mankind—to leave that pastoral world for the saved few, I find it worrisome that our money is being used for a technology that allows the government to control something absolute fundamental for food creation. New YorkCNN — A bedrock federal law designed to protect the environment and empower local communities is being weaponized to block progress on climate change, infrastructure and housing. The battle over New York City’s landmark congestion price plan is the latest example. After more than 50 years of efforts to implement a toll program that would slash greenhouse emissions from cars and reduce congestion in lower Manhattan, the plan cleared a milestone in May, when the federal government signed off on the release of an environmental assessment. Then, last month, New Jersey sued to block the plan, citing the National Environmental Policy Act of 1970 (NEPA). The law requires federal agencies to give a detailed assessment of the environmental impact before approving projects that could significantly alter the environmental landscape. In this case I’m happy the congestion scheme was blocked. Congestion schemes are generally brutal regressive tax attacks on the poor and middle class. I don’t know the specifics of the New York scheme, but I’m guessing its just like all the others. However this case highlights a broader issue. If green schemes . . .

According to the BBC, the planet is burning up-they almost literally said as much in the opening of their news segment that I watched last week (ABC was almost identical in its “reporting”). To emphasize the fact that the planet is burning up, the BBC showed the battles against brush fires in Europe, as if these brush fires started spontaneously because the planet is burning up (despite the unreported part that arson has been suspected in many of these fires around the world, from Canada to Europe). And, the color RED has now been adopted as the panic color, so of course the whole map has RED numbers and/or RED overlay with maybe a lucky place or two in orange or maybe yellow. This despite the fact that most of the RED places are actually experiencing rather NORMAL summer weather for their area. But, normal is no longer acceptable. They then showed elderly people sitting in their homes in France, without air conditioning, trying to stay cool. Yes, abnormally hot and cold weather do pose the same health risks to the elderly as say, a respiratory virus. That is because the elderly are elderly. It goes with the territory. […] Is Chicken Little, AKA Mainstream Media, correct? Is the planet burning up? Let’s examine some of the narratives and see if they hold up to some scrutiny. On the morning of August 9th, at approximately 6 am, a SWAT team conducted a raid on the home of 75-year-old Craig Robertson. Robertson, a 300-pound Air Force veteran, had difficulty walking and used a cane. This fact alone would make an assassination attempt extremely difficult. However, he claimed to own a sniper rifle and his threats should not have been disregarded. Agents were attempting to serve him with an arrest warrant. Robertson was charged with making internet threats on the life of the president and other government officials. Reportedly the FBI attempted to enter the home with a battering ram. When this failed, they used a vehicle-mounted ram to enter via the front window. […] . . . The “commanders on the ground” were using the same playbook. That’s the playbook written by the Soviet KGB. This playbook recommends pre-dawn raids in which the arrested person is dazed and half-asleep. An enormous show of force is advised to terrify neighbors. Military equipment, helicopters and tanks emphasize the seriousness of the arrest. The raid on Joshua James’s residence used an armored vehicle with a turret, two vans, six FBI vehicles, and three local police cars. These raids are an enormous expense. Top leaders cannot be unaware of this. Judge Andrew Napolitano estimated the raid on Roger Stone cost approximately half a million dollars. […] It is not unusual for SWAT raids to go terribly wrong. Innocent people, including children, have been maimed and killed in their homes. The New York Times examined SWAT team raids in 2017 and found that at least 81 civilians and 13 officers had died from 2010 through 2016 in such searches.

‘Merely quips’? Appeals court says FDA denunciations of ivermectin look like ‘command,’ not advice

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is claiming in federal court that it never told doctors not to prescribe ivermectin to treat COVID-19. Federal judges aren’t buying it, and state medical boards that rely heavily on FDA guidance continue to investigate doctors for such prescriptions. Echoing a federal district judge nine months ago, a three-judge panel of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals pressed a Justice Department lawyer to reconcile the FDA’s repeated public denunciations of ivermectin as an off-label COVID treatment with its insistence that the agency is not liable for resulting investigations of doctors who prescribe or promote it. Three doctors are suing the FDA for exceeding its statutory limits by “deliberately” interfering in the doctor-patient relationship through what their lawyer Jared Kelson called a “years long campaign” against ivermectin at Tuesday’s hearing. […] The 5th Circuit panel seemed skeptical of Civil Division Appellate Attorney Ashley Honold’s argument that the FDA’s “informational statements” against ivermectin, including its conflation of human and animal dosages, were “merely quips” about reported problems after “self-medicating” rather than “prohibit[ing] anyone” from using ivermectin.

The continuing trend of broad expansions of presidential powers… is eroding the powers of the legislative branch.
Constitutionally, the vital decisions of government were not to be decided by the stroke of a pen from the president, with no congressional action from the duly elected representatives of the people.
By addressing the Iran nuclear deal that is not yet dead, Congress can reclaim some of
its constitutionally mandated powers by insisting that the initial steps taken regarding any Iran deal be reviewed by Congress, then followed up with strong action, as powerfully initiated by House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul.
Regrettably, Congress has allowed its authority to be eroded for decades by the Executive Branch, and has insufficiently guarded its power under both Republican and Democratic administrations.
Congress should be particularly concerned that the administration might use extraordinary means to bypass and implement a nuclear agreement without congressional review, as is required by federal statute in the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015.

California is poised to codify at the state level what the feds were once requested to do — that is, turn inquisitive parents into criminals for daring to question their school board representatives. Senate Bill 596, introduced by Democratic State Senator Anthony Portantino in February and dubbed the “School Employees: Protection” act, expands an existing law “which makes it a misdemeanor for any ‘person’ to threaten or harass a school employee during the ‘course of [their] duties,’” according to the California Globe. This expansion adds a penalty for creating a “substantial disorder” at any meeting of a public school board, charter school board, county board of education, and the California State Board of Education. […] It’s not difficult to figure out what’s happening here. A concerned parent at a school board meeting . . . […] Two other pieces of concerning legislation in the Golden State noted by the California Policy Center include Corey Jackson’s (D) Assembly Bill 1078 and Mia Bonta’s Assembly Bill 1352. The former would give local school boards’ power to make curriculum decisions to education bureaucrats in the state capital, while the latter “would allow a duly elected school board member to be removed from office if he or she disagrees with the votes of teachers union-backed board members.”

But the incident that took place at a Norstrom in the Topanga Mall near Los Angeles yesterday is noteworthy for a couple of reasons. First, there was the size of the mob. As many as fifty masked people showed up to pull off a “smash and grab” where tens of thousands of dollars worth of merchandise was taken. In a rare exception to the usual rules, a store security guard attempted to stop one of the looters, but he was stymied by another unusual factor. The looter pulled out a can of bear spray and drove him off. And this all took place in broad daylight around four in the afternoon. Officials are promising a full investigation, but we shall see what comes of that pledge.

The foundation received $311.4 million in contributions and grants last year, according to the foundation’s 2022 IRS filing and annual report. This is the largest sum the foundation has made since its founding in 2014, per Obama Foundation spokesperson Courtney Williams. It’s almost double the previous year’s fundraising of $160.21 million. The jump comes in large part from two new mega donors — tech CEOs Brian Chesky of Airbnb and Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon — who each gave $100 million towards programming. (Chesky also gave a separate $25 million in unrestricted funds.) In all, more than 57,000 donors contributed last year. Of this year’s spending, construction costs made up the largest chunk, Williams said. Per the report, construction costs totaled $222 million by the end of 2022, up from $144.5 million the year before. In total, construction of the center is estimated to cost about $700 million.
