A U.S. Department of State office called Global Engagement Center deliberated at length on how to respond to reporters asking about its funding of a group that tries to convince advertisers to shun predominantly conservative publishers, with the goal of starving them out of business. The details that GEC staff discussed, however, are being kept secret and away from the prying eyes of the press and public. Heavily redacted documents were obtained this week by former Education Department lawyer Hans Bader as result of his Freedom of Information Act suit in the District of Columbia federal court against the State Department. The suit sought documents concerning the London-based Global Disinformation Index, a non-profit organization that claims its mission is “to disrupt the business model of disinformation.” The GEC is known for funding anti-populist internet games abroad, such as “Cat Park”, which led the Foundation for Freedom Online to call the GEC “the global-facing political censorship arm of the Internet.”

Wyoming’s leading election official is sounding the alarm about nefarious actors’ attempts to use private money to influence election administration throughout the state. “As Wyoming’s 23 county clerks continue to prepare for the 2024 Election, I am writing to warn and caution against any attempts made by third parties to fund the administration of elections in Wyoming,” Secretary of State Chuck Gray wrote in an Aug. 10 letter to local election officials. In his warning to county clerks, Gray specifically highlighted ongoing efforts by the U.S. Alliance for Election Excellence to use private funds as a means of influencing the electoral process. The Alliance is an $80 million venture funded by left-wing nonprofits to “systematically influence every aspect of election administration” and advance Democrat-backed voting policies in local election offices.

Voting rights activists and Republican officials across the country are battling over whether felons should have their voting privileges restored once they’ve served their punishments. Why it matters: The tussle is largely partisan, with most Republicans opposing felons voting and Democrats — including those in Congress seeking a national standard for restoring felons to voting rolls — backing the idea as a key step toward rehabilitation. A big reason for that divide: Felons are four times as likely as non-felons to be Democrats or politically unaffiliated, a 2019 study found. Only 20% of felons identified as Republicans after being released. That’s made felon voting a key point of contention in the run-up to the 2024 elections. Despite recent media stories about two supposed Biden Administration foreign policy “wins” in the Middle East, a closer look indicates these wins are not what they seem and may harm U.S. national security. One of the alleged wins concerns the Biden Administration’s effort to normalize relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia. On August 9, the Wall Street Journal reported that U.S. and Saudi officials agreed to a framework for a deal under which Saudi Arabia would recognize Israel in exchange for Israeli, Saudi, and American concessions. Although Biden Administration officials said this agreement would take nine months to a year to finalize and faced long odds, they also described it as potentially “the most momentous Middle East peace deal in a generation.” Another alleged Biden foreign policy win, announced on August 10, is a tentative deal to swap American and Iranian prisoners in exchange for unfreezing $6 billion of Iranian assets held by a South Korean bank. Biden officials said these funds would go through a Qatari bank to ensure they are used only for humanitarian purposes. Five Americans have been released from an Iranian prison under the deal but are under house arrest in Iran until an agreement allowing them to leave the country is finalized. On the surface, both initiatives appear to be diplomatic breakthroughs. But a closer look indicates the Biden Administration is trying to claim credit for dubious, unfinished agreements and hide some dangerous details from the American public and Congress.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection smartphone app known as “CBP One” is “facilitating illegal immigration” and has become a “boon for alien smugglers” as migrant encounters surge at the border, according to an immigration policy expert.[…] Krikorian said the Biden Administration took a victory lap too early after the number of migrant encounters had dipped in June compared to May when Title 42 ended. He noted that leaked data reported in The Washington Post shows migrant encounters surging about 30% in July. “A lot of people, smugglers and regular illegals, you know, potentially illegal, said, ‘Okay, well, let’s wait and see. Let’s see how it’s going there. We’re holding back.’ That’s what happens anytime we change policy,” Krikorian said, referencing the initial implementation of the CBP One app for migrant appointments. “There was a brief pause in June in border patrol numbers, some of which was made up for by people being illegally let into the country with CBP One but even that brief reduction looks like it has been eliminated.” In addition, The National Border Patrol Council (NBPC) – the union representing more than 18,000 Border Patrol agents – reported that the August encounter numbers are on track to be even higher than July.

Zahn: Mortgage rates surge to 21-year high

The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 7.09% over the week ending on Thursday, marking a significant increase from 6.96% the week prior, the data showed. The Federal Reserve has put forward an aggressive string of interest rate hikes as it tries to slash inflation by slowing the economy and choking off demand. That means borrowers face higher costs for everything from car loans to credit card debt to mortgages.

Rape / their fathers. Cut the mothers’ throats.” But now the Left has discovered educational materials in Florida schools that it wants to ban. Outrage, condemnations, petitions and threats greeted the revelation that Florida had allowed schools to use PragerU materials if they wanted to. After months of accusing Florida of banning books, the media and leftist activists mounted a crusade to ban PragerU from schools.

A state task force recommended cash payments for five types of discrimination Black Californians faced. California legislators are expected to consider a plan that would make it the first in the nation to provide reparations for systemic discrimination against Black Americans. Just what those reparations would look like, however, is proving to be a much trickier question. A task force convened by the Legislature’s Democratic supermajority wrapped up two years of work this summer, culminating in more than 1,000 pages of findings that discuss eligibility and compensation in the form of both policy changes and direct payouts. The group considered factors beyond slavery, including housing discrimination, health harms, mass incarceration and excessive policing. It recommended that only residents descended from slaves or from free African Americans who lived in the U.S. prior to 1900 be eligible for reparations. The task of putting those ideas to paper now falls to the lawmakers. So far, few have committed to backing any specific statute, including cash payments. Based on the annual amounts recommended by the report’s authors, a person could receive reparations of more than $1.2 million. Here are the five recommendations for reparations the legislature is considering as it looks to carve out a policy for Black Californians.

Max Miller from Ohio went on X, formerly known as Twitter, to decry a call for “faith in Jesus Christ alone” as “bigoted.” A post from an Ohio activist apparently set him off. “There’s no hope for any of us outside of having faith in Jesus Christ alone,” wrote Lizzie Marbach. Miller, who is Jewish, took offense. “This is one of the most bigoted tweets I have ever seen,” Miller wrote, demanding Marbach “Delete it,” because she had “gone too far.” “Religious freedom in the United States applies to every religion,” he added. It’s quite a comment from a congressman who spoke at the 30-year anniversary of the apparently bigoted Ohio Christian Alliance. Miller didn’t stop there. […] Miller apologized for the post after drawing online rebuke. “I posted something earlier that conveyed a message I did not intend,” Miller wrote three hours after the initial post. “I will not try to hide my mistake or run from it.” Miller’s office, however, did not respond to the Federalist’s repeated inquiries over what the congressman did intend by the Wednesday morning deadline.

The phrase “our democracy” has become a pervasive cliche in American politics. But who is the subject in this presumptuous expression? Although never defined explicitly, the answer is implicit in what it does not include. To a greater and greater extent, American politics revolves around black people, women, and immigrant populations from the Third World, which together form the core of the Democratic party. The remnants of the old country are now facing obsolescence, with only a weak and ambivalent vessel, the Republican party, to defend them. The right, whether out of denial, cowardice, or a lack of imagination, has failed to grapple with the deep roots of its demise. Republicans ostracized “nativists” and helped facilitate the demographic replacement of their own voters with the delusion that cheap Third World day laborers are “natural conservatives,” overlooking the most naturally conservative constituency of all: white men. The right failed to conserve gender roles, as women left the home and became angry foot soldiers of a socialist revolution. Now we observe the results.

The protesters held up signs and chanted “no tent city,” opposing the move by state officials to house illegal immigrants in the new shelter as hotels and homeless shelters in the Big Apple are overrun with thousands of people who illegally entered the country and were bused to New York. The tent city, approved by state leaders, opened Tuesday after being set up in 10 days in the parking lot of a psychiatric facility in Queens, Fox 5 reported.

Corporate media worked overtime Wednesday night to report threats received, via voicemail, by D.C. What every single media outlet failed to report, however, is that the now charged Abigail Jo Shry has a sad record of arrests dating back to mid-2022, and a series of mugshots which clearly identify the same woman, but with varying ages, heights, and weights.
