Those who gave us the Constitution and the Bill of Rights believed that the government exists at the behest of its citizens. It is there to protect, defend and even enhance our freedoms, not violate them. Unfortunately, although the Bill of Rights was adopted as a means of protecting the people against government tyranny, in America today, the government does whatever it wants, freedom be damned. In the 22 years since the USA Patriot Act—a massive 342-page wish list of expanded powers for the FBI and CIA—was rammed through Congress in the wake of the so-called 9/11 terror attacks, it has snowballed into the eradication of every vital safeguard against government overreach, corruption and abuse. The Patriot Act drove a stake through the heart of the Bill of Rights, violating at least six of the ten original amendments—the First, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Amendments—and possibly the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Amendments, as well. The Patriot Act also redefined terrorism so broadly that many non-terrorist political activities such as protest marches, demonstrations and civil disobedience are now considered potential terrorist acts, thereby rendering anyone desiring to engage in protected First Amendment expressive activities as suspects of the surveillance state. The Patriot Act justified broader domestic surveillance, the logic being that if government agents knew more about each American, they could distinguish the terrorists from law-abiding citizens—no doubt a reflexive impulse shared by small-town police and federal agents alike. This, according to Washington Post reporter Robert O’Harrow, Jr., was a fantasy that “had been brewing in the law enforcement world for a long time.” And 9/11 provided the government with the perfect excuse for conducting far-reaching surveillance and collecting mountains of information on even the most law-abiding citizen.

Speaking of Kennedy, no single American has felt the sting of the Times’ historic disdain for so-called conspiracy theorists more than JFK’s legendary press secretary, Pierre Salinger. Unlike Landis, Salinger made the mistake of exposing a conspiracy that was very much in play when he exposed it.
I speak here of the case of TWA Flight 800. The 747 was en route from New York to Paris when it crashed off the coast of Long Island in July 1996, killing all 230 people on board. At the time, Salinger was working in Paris where the interest in TWA 800 was understandably high, 36 French citizens having died in the crash. With a likely assist from French intelligence, Salinger was put in touch with retired United Airline pilot and accident investigator Dick Russell. Russell had been suspicious about the cause of the crash since Pentagon spokesman Ken Bacon first announced it. Russell had been around long enough to know that civilian plane crashes were not the natural bailiwick of the Defense Department. Having gathered information through his own network of aviation insiders, Russell sent a summary e-mail to his associates with the message, “TWA Flight 800 was shot down by a U.S. Navy guided missile ship which was in area W-105. It has been a cover-up from the word go.” Although recipients had vowed to keep the information among themselves, one of them posted the information on the internet, and it somehow found its way to Salinger.

Whedon: Income dropped, poverty soared under Biden: Census Bureau
Despite the Biden administration’s efforts to tout the alleged successes of “Bidenomics,” a report from the United States Census Bureau has revealed that many Americans saw their economic situation deteriorate dramatically in the first half of Biden’s term. While the official poverty rate hovered around 11.5% in both 2021 and 2022, according to the report, the Supplemental Poverty Measure (SPM) increased 4.6% in 2022 to reach 12.4%, marking the first overall increase in that metric since 2010. In total, 37.9 million Americans lived in poverty in 2022. The report partially attributed the increase to the expiration of tax credits credits and pandemic stimulus payments. An impeachment inquiry looms and the shrieks of outrage are beginning. The Left is now suddenly voicing warnings that those who recently undermined the system could be targeted by their own legacies. So, for example, now we read why impeachment is suddenly a dangerous gambit. True, the Founders did not envision impeaching a first-term president the moment he lost his House majority. Nor did they imagine impeaching a president twice. And they certainly did not anticipate trying an ex-president in the Senate as a private citizen. In modern times, the nation has not rushed to impeach a president without a special counsel investigation to determine whether the chief executive was guilty of “Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.” But thanks to the Democrats, recent impeachments now have destroyed all those guardrails. - Will the next president have the FBI pay social media censors to suppress the dissemination of any news it feels is unhelpful to the reelection of a Republican president?

- Should a conservative billionaire stealthily insert $419 million late in the 2024 campaign to absorb the work of registrars in key voting precincts?
- If a Democratic president wins the 2024 election should conservative groups riot at the Capitol on Inauguration Day? Should a conservative celebrity yell out to the assembled crowd of protestors that she dreams of blowing up the White House? And if a Republican wins, should he prosecute any Democratic rioters who once again swarm Washington on Inauguration Day and charge them with “insurrection,” meting out long prisons sentences to the convicted?

It’s a story that’s garnered a lot of coverage: The Mayor of Burbank went to a drag event and volunteered his bottom for a public spanking. That was sleazy. Shockingly, the event was open to teenagers 15 and older. However, the leftists involved, from the mayor on down, defended what happened by saying those 15 and older aren’t children. Instead, they’re adults. Consider, though, that leftists insist that people are children into their late teens and even late 20s for purposes of gun ownership, gun violence, and insurance. Apparently, like everything else in the leftist lexicon, word meanings are infinitely malleable to support their policies. […] Saying that young people barely into their teens aren’t children is par for the course for leftists when it comes to sex. After all, California assemblyman Scott Weiner successfully introduced a bill, which Gavin Newsom signed, saying that people who have been convicted of “non-forcible” sex (oral or anal) with a minor 14 or older, if the offender is no more than 10 years older than the victim, shouldn’t have to register as a sex offender. California is also all in on removing parental involvement in their children’s sex lives generally, whether it’s making birth control and abortion available to minors, or shutting parents out of the room when their child goes to the doctor for any reason.

Montellaro & Mutnick: Dems inch toward House majority with recent court wins
The fundamentals of the 2024 campaign are still taking shape, but one thing is already clear: A flurry of court actions might cost Republicans the House majority. In the past nine days, state and federal judges threw out two congressional maps — and helped Democrats avoid a worst-case scenario in Ohio — kicking off an unusually busy redistricting calendar heading into the election year. All told, a dozen or more seats across at least six states could be redrawn, increasing the likelihood Democrats could chip away the five-seat GOP House majority through redistricting alone. Democrats could pick up an extra seat in each of a handful of states, including Florida, Alabama and Louisiana, and perhaps several more in New York. Republicans could still pick up as many as four seats in North Carolina, but the recent rulings put Democrats in a position to offset those losses — and then some.

Torrez told the governor in a letter Tuesday that he believed the emergency order, which temporarily bans people from carrying firearms in public spaces across Bernalillo County, violated the state and federal constitutions. Because of that, he said his office would not defend the governor against several legal challenges. “I am writing to inform you that my office will not defend your administration in the above referenced cases challenging” Lujan Grisham’s order, Torrez wrote. “Though I recognize my statutory obligation as New Mexico’s chief legal officer to defend state officials when they are sued in their official capacity, my duty to uphold and defend the constitutional rights of every citizen takes precedence,” his letter continued. “Simply put, I do not believe that the Emergency Order will have any meaningful impact on public safety but, more importantly, I do not believe it passes constitutional muster.”

That amounts to paying $210 per room for each night that an illegal alien invader uses it to smoke meth or abuse their wives and daughters. The Kentucky Republican has vowed to remain Senate minority leader and to complete his current Senate term amid mounting pressure for his resignation due to concerns he is not well enough to serve in office. 73% of respondents in a recent Rasmussen Reports poll opined that he ought to leader Senate leadership. That figure included 74% of Republicans and 73% of Democrats. “I’m going to finish my term as leader and I’m going to finish my Senate term,” he said earlier this month.

Organized Palestinian terror is back to haunt Israeli civilians. In fact, 2023 has been the most lethal year in terms of terror and casualties since 2005, the last year of the Second Intifada. While in the intervening years, terror was essentially committed by individual Palestinians whether by knifing, or car ramming, the current terror unleashed by Palestinian terrorists is organized. It includes a central command of terrorists affiliated with Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) and Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah. Most of the recent terror actions have taken place in Judea and Samaria. The Hamas leadership in Gaza is behind the organized campaign. In recent weeks, the Jewish state has been challenged by a strategic turnaround in the way Palestinian terrorists are waging their deadly actions in Judea and Samaria. Although the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have been able to deal seemingly well with the terrorist pockets in places such as Jenin, Nablus, and Tulkarem, it is very clear that there has been an elevated threat to Israelis in terms of the frequency and quality of the terrorist attacks. The change that is occurring in the new Palestinian terror campaign in Judea and Samaria (West Bank) is being expressed in its new sense of purpose, the use of weapons, organization, and fighting spirit, and it has generated an armed uprising. The barely functioning Palestinian Authority (PA) and the feebleness and corruption of its leader Mahmoud Abbas is one contributing factor in the rise of the organized terror campaign. The perceived weakness of Israel’s political leadership, and the turbulence within Israeli society as a result of the chaos caused by the months-old demonstrations by the Israeli left seeking to topple the right-leaning Netanyahu government, using the pretext of the Judicial Reforms, is yet another. The goal of the new Palestinian terror campaign is to force Israel to withdraw from Judea and Samaria in the same way Hezbollah in Lebanon unleashed terror, which allegedly forced Israel to withdraw from Lebanon. Hamas would have you believe that Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip because of Hamas’ resistance.
