Brandt ran over and killed a teenager, Cayler Ellingson, because he thought Ellingson was a “Republican extremist.” For that, Brandt will serve five years in prison, minus almost a year that he has already served under house arrest. It would be fitting if Brandt and Biggs could be sentenced to the same prison, so that Brandt could say goodbye to Biggs when he gets freed and thank his lucky stars that another “Republican extremist” is safely behind bars.

U.S. District Judge David Urias issued the ruling, per the Associated Press. The governor issued the order on Friday in the wake of the shooting of an 11-year-old boy outside a baseball stadium. The 30-day order would have barred the open and concealed carry of guns within the city and imposed fines on violators. The move drew scrutiny from gun rights advocates, Republicans, and Democrats alike over concerns about its constitutionality. […] California Democrat Congressman Ted Lieu, a gun control advocate, raised eyebrows with his quick condemnation of Lujan Grisham’s order, stating on X that “I support gun safety laws. However, this order from the Governor of New Mexico violates the U.S. Constitution. No state in the union can suspend the federal Constitution. There is no such thing as a state public health emergency exception to the U.S. Constitution.”

Cleveland: IRS Whistleblower Gives Congress More Documents, Boosting His Credibility And Busting The DOJ’s

On Monday, IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley provided congressional oversight committees nine new documents related to the botched Hunter Biden investigation, according to a letter sent Wednesday morning to the House Judiciary Committee. The letter also contained a redacted 10th new document: the handwritten notes Shapley took during the Oct. 7, 2022, meeting in which Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss allegedly announced to his team that he was “not the deciding official on whether charges are filed” against Hunter Biden. Those handwritten notes further bolster Shapley’s earlier testimony about the meeting and debunk counterclaims by the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Baltimore field office that Weiss had not said he lacked authority to charge Hunter Biden. What the other nine documents reveal, however, remains to be seen.

Adorned with the Queen Anne-era of grand architecture and tightly guarded by Secret Service agents, the 9,000-square foot vice president’s mansion on the U.S. Naval Observatory grounds is rarely accessible to everyday Americans. But Hunter Biden – as the son of a sitting vice president – was able to score the sort of VIP meeting inside the mansion that most lobbyists could only dream of. There in 2015, the future first son delivered face time between then-Vice President Joe Biden, his fellow business partner and Burisma board member Devon Archer and an international banker they were courting for business in Kazakhstan. The meeting – recently divulged by Archer in congressional testimony – is one of several that Hunter Biden arranged that delivered direct access for business partners to his powerful father. Some occurred on phone calls; others at the swanky Cafe Milano restaurant in Washington D.C. But this one – in the personal residence of the vice president – is taking on more significance for House investigators for the specificity of the conversation and the secretive nature of the gathering.

Nejourde Thomas “Jord” Meacham was the sort of person the elites in Washington despise. One of ten children in what appears to be a tight-knit family, Jord lived in rural Utah near the Nevada border working on his family’s ranch; he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and riding horses. “He was a big history buff. Listening to music was a big part of his life and young kids were drawn to him,” his obituary read. Jord is survived by his parents, siblings, grandparents, and “many aunts, uncles, and cousins.” By all accounts, Jord led a quiet life animated by family gatherings and summers at an Alaskan fishery. Unlike those who targeted him, Jord did not earn a law degree from an Ivy League university, hone his skills at Quantico, or trade gossip with news reporters at D.C. hotel bars. And on January 6, 2021, Jord made a decision that deeply offended the ruling class in the nation’s capital: he demonstrated his support for Donald Trump.

According to the FBI, Jord and his uncle, Odin, traveled to Washington on January 5. “[They] attended the rally at the Washington Monument,” a July 2023 affidavit read. “They then walked with the crowd to the U.S. Capitol building. As they approached the Capitol, Odin became separated from [Jord]. Later that afternoon, they reunited and left the area.” […] While carrying a Trump flag—a detail the FBI agent intentionally noted in his report—Jord, 19 at the time, entered the Capitol and spent less than ten minutes inside the building. He did not assault a police officer or damage government property. And although the complaint stated Jord was escorted out by police that afternoon, he was not arrested at the time. Instead, Jord’s arrest came more than 30 months later. […] On August 28, U.S. District Court Judge Reggie Walton, one of the most unhinged judges overseeing January 6 cases, scheduled Jord’s arraignment.

Later that evening, Jord, 22, killed himself.

Cheney: Jury’s fresh-air break could upend Navarro conviction

An unusual outdoor excursion by the jury that convicted Peter Navarro — just 30 minutes before delivering its verdict last week — is threatening to unravel the former Donald Trump adviser’s trial for defying a subpoena from the Jan. 6 select committee. U.S. District Court Judge Amit Mehta held a hearing Wednesday to take testimony from the federal courthouse employee who escorted the jury outside for a fresh-air break as its deliberations wound down on Wednesday. Navarro’s attorneys say that brief respite may have exposed the jurors to a smattering of protesters, some of whom wielded signs about Jan. 6 defendants and one of whom was later seen holding a sign referencing Navarro himself. […] Mehta’s task is to determine not only whether the jurors saw any protesters — a common sight outside of the federal courthouse in Washington — but whether any exposure could have meaningfully influenced their decision. Navarro was convicted after a two-day trial that featured testimony from three former employees of the Jan. 6 select committee.

OpenAI, the developers of the massively popular AI chatbot ChatGPT, has officially acknowledged that AI writing detectors are not as reliable as once thought, casting doubt on the efficacy of automated tools in distinguishing between human and machine-generated content. […] This revelation comes after experts have criticized such detectors as “mostly snake oil,” often yielding false positives due to their reliance on unproven detection metrics. OpenAI itself had released an experimental tool called AI Classifier, designed to detect AI-written text, which was discontinued due to its abysmal 26 percent accuracy rate. This is quite a big deal in academia, given that some college professors have flunked entire classes, alleging that students wrote their essays with ChatGPT.

Our Constitution provides a framework for a federal government that will “secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity,” yet it is not doing so. Our southern border is run by cartels, and the human crisis is causing death and destruction from Texas to New York. Rather than carrying out a war against fentanyl, human trafficking, and organized crime, the Department of Justice (DOJ) is targeting American citizens who dare oppose it. The Department of Defense (DOD) focuses less on warfighting capability and more on divisive ideology. As Covid tyranny ramps up again, reckless spending is sabotaging economic stability while fantasy energy policies destroy the American dream. The status quo is unacceptable, and House Republicans are constitutionally empowered and duty-bound to demand change. The “power of the purse” is the most effective tool we possess to force an out-of-control executive branch to end its abuses and focus only on its core functions. Thus, when federal funding expires on Sept. 30, we must stand in unison and declare, “No security, no funding.” […] To be clear, a vote for such a CR is a vote for the status quo — i.e., a “continuation” of bloated post-Covid spending levels and anti-security policies contained in last year’s $1.7 trillion “omnibus” spending bill, which was negotiated and passed in a Democrat trifecta — inexplicably with the help of 18 Senate Republicans. That’s why my House Freedom Caucus colleagues and I pledged to oppose such a CR unless it makes actual strides to reverse course and promote American security — notably, by at least addressing border security, undoing the weaponization of the DOJ, and refocusing the DOD on securing America.

Tawil: How the Biden Administration Is Trying to Bribe the Palestinians

Palestinian officials… have assured the US that they will not oppose Saudi-Israeli efforts at normalization, in the hope of receiving security, financial and political incentives from the Biden administration.
The Palestinian list of demands for not opposing a Saudi-Israeli deal includes, among other things: Resuming Saudi financial support to the Palestinian Authority, which slowed from 2016 and stopped completely three years ago, to the tune of around $200 million per year, and transferring parts of the West Bank currently under full Israeli control to the governance of the Palestinian Authority. The talk is about land in the West Bank’s Area C, which, according to the Oslo Accords, is exclusively controlled by Israel.
It appears, then, that Saudi Arabia and the Biden Administration are offering a bribe to the Palestinians in return for their silence over a Saudi-Israeli deal. The Biden administration seems desperate to achieve some kind of deal ahead of the 2024 US presidential election, presumably in the hope that it would boost President Joe Biden’s chances of being re-elected.

A top teachers union boss cited a far-left smear factory in demonizing the parental rights movement by comparing it to the “Uptown Klans” that opposed the end of racial segregation in the Supreme Court case Brown v. Board of Education (1954). “Those same words that you heard in terms of wanting segregation post-Brown v. Board, those same words you hear today,” Randi Weingarten, the president of the American Federation of Teachers, said in a podcast interview published Tuesday. “I was kind of gobsmacked when I was talking to Southern Poverty Law Center, and they showed me the same words, ‘choice,’ ‘parental rights,’ and an attempt to divide parents versus teachers,” Weingarten added. “At that point, it was white parents versus other parents, but it’s the same kind of words.”

The word “imperialism” comes from the Latin word imperium. It refers to a nation or a state implanting its rule on other states, treating them as subordinates and in an inferior fashion. Some suggest today that America is behaving imperialistically—we do, after all, have some 600 military bases around the world. So it is worth recalling some historical examples of imperialism to understand what the idea entails. Looking at empires through history, we can identify several things that most of them have in common. One is that their leaders often say or seem to believe that their imperialist policies have little to do with self-interest.

Perry: WE ARE REPAGANIZING

There’s a very short and very brutal poem by the Scottish poet Hollie McNish, written in 2019 and titled “Conversation with an archaeologist”:

A majority of voters in Britain and America regard abortion as permissible in some circumstances, whereas very few are willing to say the same of infanticide (with some notable exceptions, as we will see). Scientists have grown an entity that closely resembles an early human embryo, without using sperm, eggs or a womb. The Weizmann Institute team say their “embryo model”, made using stem cells, looks like a textbook example of a real 14-day-old embryo.

It even released hormones that turned a pregnancy test positive in the lab. The ambition for embryo models is to provide an ethical way of understanding the earliest moments of our lives. […] Embryo research is legally, ethically and technically fraught. But there is now a rapidly developing field mimicking natural embryo development. This research, published in the journal Nature, is described by the Israeli team as the first “complete” embryo model for mimicking all the key structures that emerge in the early embryo. “This is really a textbook image of a human day-14 embryo,” Prof Hanna says, which “hasn’t been done before”. […] The work also raises the question of whether embryo development could be mimicked past the 14-day stage. This would not be illegal, even in the UK, as embryo models are legally distinct from embryos. “Some will welcome this – but others won’t like it,” Prof Lovell-Badge says.

And the closer these models come to an actual embryo, the more ethical questions they raise. They are not normal human embryos, they’re embryo models, but they’re very close to them.

An active member of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a group of predominantly gay men who openly mock Catholics, was arrested in California last month for indecent exposure after witnesses say he masturbated in public for an hour, according to a sheriff’s office report obtained by The Daily Wire. The man, 53-year-old Clinton Monroe Ellis-Gilmore, was arrested by police at a beachside park after they received a report of a male “exposing himself in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle,” the Humboldt County Sheriff’s department said. […] The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence made headlines earlier this year after the Los Angeles Dodgers decided to honor the group at a “Pride” event. The group makes fun of Christianity and its members are men in traditional nun clothing that frequently use sexually suggestive names. It won the support, however, of many in the media, which defended the group from critics who said it was a perverted hate group and celebrated it for its “dedication to community service.”

Europe is in “complete denial” as China proceeds to spread its influence on the continent. At least that is the urgent, unequivocal view of Ivana Karásková, a Czech foreign influence specialist and a special adviser to European Commission Vice President Věra Jourová.
“Asked what parts of the Continent were most in the dark about Chinese influence, she added: ‘The whole of Western Europe is not looking. And yet there are cases that are so blatant.'”
In July 2023, the UK’s Intelligence and Security Committee of Parliament released a comprehensive report on China’s threat to the country, and how the Communist power seeks both political and economic influence.
The Committee found that China had “successfully penetrate[d] every sector of the UK’s economy,” and that “the Government has been so keen to take Chinese money that it has not been watching China’s sleight of hand.”
“China sees almost all of its global activity in the context of what it sees as the struggle between the United States and China, and therefore it sees the United Kingdom fundamentally through that optic. China aspires to split off from the United States countries which it thinks might be detachable, and they sometimes have a sunnily optimistic view about which countries might be susceptible to that treatment. Of all the falsehoods that have been mythologized regarding Israel and Palestine, none has been more pervasive and damaging than the claim that Israel constitutes “Occupied Palestine.” Why? Because this claim underlies all other Palestinian claims of being the legitimate and persecuted inhabitants of Israel. Take away this keystone myth, and Palestinians lose all other claims of Israeli/Jewish victimhood and justifications of decades of violence propagated against Jews, Arabs, and Europeans. These pernicious claims of Palestinian originalism have been promulgated since Israel’s founding by a range of bad actors, including radical Arab countries, the Soviets, and European and American Progressives…not to mention the Palestinians themselves. Ask your average American or European why Palestinians deserve their own country, and one is likely to be told, “because they were there first, and they were displaced by European Jews.” Wrong!
