The Government is trying to put Mackey in prison for tweeting two deceptive memes about how to vote, on the theory that any false speech that “hampers” voting violates the Enforcement Act of 1870. This is unprecedented, and lawless.
Consistent with its text and history, § 241 has never been employed to criminalize political misinformation, despite the practice’s ubiquity.
[T]he Government presses a reading of § 241 that would necessarily criminalize not only lies about how to vote, but also lies about also whether and for whom to vote. Such a sprawling political speech code is in the teeth of every applicable canon for reading criminal laws, and grossly offends the First Amendment.
The Government premised venue exclusively on the fact that internet data associated with Mackey’s tweets briefly crossed EDNY waters or airspace on its way to the broader internet. But this theory would allow for trial in any district that has internet. And a venue theory that is indifferent between Brooklyn, NY and Brooklyn, WI makes a hash of this core constitutional protection. Unsurprisingly, this Court has never upheld criminal venue on such a threadbare basis.

District Attorney Fani Willis improperly hired an alleged romantic partner to prosecute Donald Trump and financially benefited from their relationship, according to a court motion filed Monday which argued the criminal charges in the case were unconstitutional. The bombshell public filing alleged that special prosecutor Nathan Wade, a private attorney, paid for lavish vacations he took with Willis using the Fulton County funds his law firm received. County records show that Wade, who has played a prominent role in the election interference case, has been paid nearly $654,000 in legal fees since January 2022. The DA authorizes his compensation. The motion, filed on behalf of defendant Michael Roman, a former Trump campaign official, seeks to have the charges against Roman dismissed and for Willis, Wade and the entire DA’s office to be disqualified from further prosecution of the case.

A U.S. Navy service member was sentenced today to 27 months in prison and ordered to pay a $5,500 fine for transmitting sensitive U.S. military information to an intelligence officer from the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in exchange for bribery payments. According to court documents, Petty Officer Wenheng Zhao, 26, aka Thomas Zhao, of Monterey Park, California, pleaded guilty in October 2023 to one count of conspiring with the intelligence officer and one count of receiving a bribe. […] Zhao transmitted plans for a large-scale maritime training exercise in the Pacific theatre, operational orders and electrical diagrams and blueprints for a Ground/Air Task Oriented Radar system located in Okinawa, Japan. He used sophisticated encrypted communication methods to transmit the information.

Nobel: A Crisis Ignored Is A Crisis Fulfilled: A U.S. National Debt Odyssey

The question of debt and deficits has been vexing the US political system since chronic deficits began to be realized after the Great Society legislation of the 1960s. But while troublesome, the issue has moved apparently to irrelevancy. The term “existential threat” gets tossed around easily today while the real existential threat is right in front of us. By 1971, the last vestige of external control on political spending was repealed by President Nixon with the unilateral violation of the Bretton Woods Treaty. This last requirement to redeem money in gold (if held by foreigners) was abrogated and politicians had freed themselves of the straight jacket of a gold standard. FDR suspended gold convertibility for citizens in 1933. For the first time, the nation entered the realm of pure fiat currency. Money is what the government says it is and can be produced in whatever amounts the government and its agencies (the Federal Reserve) deem necessary. Whether paper or digital money, money is simply a promise by the government to pay in a currency constantly losing value. Our political system has proven itself to be wholly inadequate to deal with runaway spending, absent Constitutional restraint and the shackles of a gold standard. […] It seems unless we experience a specific and immediate disaster, the political system can’t muster up the discipline for action. On the contrary, transferring money from one group to another has made for great politics. Thus, absent any obvious and widespread pain, talking about deficits seems to have lost its political punch.

Inbar is an eminent, influential, and highly cited researcher with a Ph.D. in social psychology from Cornell University. There is no question that he is qualified. Anyone worth their salt doing work on political polarization knows Inbar’s name. Inbar also jumped through all the hoops UCLA put up for the job, including submitting a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) statement, which is currently all the rage in colleges and universities. He even shares the politics of the majority of the psychology department. But on his podcast, Inbar had expressed relatively mild concerns over the ideological pressures that DEI statements impose and wondered aloud whether they do harm to diversity of thought. As a result of this petition—signed by only 66 students—UCLA did not hire Inbar. And he’s not the only academic this has happened to. Far from it.

Instead of blaming Hamas and Hezbollah for dragging Lebanon into another war, the Lebanese government is rushing to accuse Israel of killing a Hamas fugitive and violating Lebanese airspace to attack Syria.
Instead of criticizing Israel for defending its citizens against the Hezbollah and Hamas attacks, the Lebanese government should enforce Security Council Resolution 1701, according to which Hezbollah was supposed to withdraw all its terrorists north of the Litani River in southern Lebanon.
Lebanon has been in flagrant violation of Resolution 1701 since 2006, of course with no consequences. Similarly, the UN has never enforced its own Article 2(4) under which member states are not permitted to threaten each other. The UN, it would seem, is actually an instigator and conservator of war.

Chabad Lubavitch Synagogue Erupts Into Chaos After Members Refuse To Allow Secret Tunnel To Be Sealed: REPORT

A New York City synagogue erupted into chaos Monday night after members refused to have a secret tunnel sealed off, according to CrownHeights.info. Video footage of the incident circulated on Twitter, displaying a chaotic scene between Jewish synagogue members and New York Police Department (NYPD) officers. Shouting ensued as officers and members clashed, with some Jewish members appearing to flip tables and crossing over crime tape NYPD officers were behind. Another shot displayed a member crawling out from what appears to be a hole connected to the synagogue, then walking out onto the NYC street.
