The climate-change killjoys have gone to great lengths in recent years linking practically anything and everything as a contributor to climate change. Gas stoves? Check. Dishwashers? Check. Eating meat? Check. Sporting events? Check. Breathing? Check, too. Given this history, I must say I was not all that surprised when I read a recent article in the Washington Post claiming, “Indoor houseplants come with a cost to the planet.” According to article’s author, “greening indoor spaces can also come at an environmental cost. The trucks that transport plants spew carbon emissions, plastic pots and synthetic fertilizers are made from petroleum and the harvesting of soil components like peat can tear up slow-forming habitats.”

Cities that wasted money on them found they had far less range then advertised. They commonly couldn’t complete even short, flat routes specifically designed for them. The enormous weight of their batteries cracked frames, and getting parts from the factory was virtually impossible. The US Supreme Court on Monday rejected a request by Elon Musk’s X Corp. to consider whether the social media company, formerly called Twitter, can publicly disclose how often federal law enforcement seeks information about users for national security investigations. The justices declined to hear X’s appeal of a lower court’s ruling holding that the FBI’s restrictions on what the company could say publicly about the investigations did not violate its free speech rights under the Constitution’s First Amendment. X had said it was “critical” for the justices to take up the case to establish clear standards for when and how tech companies can speak about government demands for confidential information about their users for surveillance.

So it is with the striking admission from Hungary’s president, made during a New Year’s address, that in “many families, there is almost constant sickness, as if our immune systems have been weakened.” When hearing such an eye-popping claim from only one non-mainstream English outlet — in this case, website Gates of Vienna (GoV) — one of course wonders, “Is this legit?” But it absolutely appears to be, which means that an equally big story is how it’s being ignored. GoV cites Hungarian sources whose information is translated by its Hungarian correspondent László. As he originally wrote January 1 (note: Hungary has a president as well as a prime minister; the former’s role is largely ceremonial), “Hungarian President Katalin Novák’s 2023 New Year’s Eve address to the nation was as weird as it could get.”

The Democrats of the past 50 years are certainly not our parent’s Dems. At one time, all Americans (even Dems) honored military members. Today’s Democrat holds extreme antipathy towards the military going back at least to the 1960s. Recall that John Kerry rose to prominence by slandering the military. Jimmy Carter, a Naval Academy graduate himself, drastically gutted the Armed Forces. Bill Clinton and Hillary loathed service members. One Clinton appointee, Sara Lister, even called the Marines “extremists” — most likely because Marines love and defend the United States and she didn’t understand such commitment. Then, Obama did everything he could to demoralize the military by promoting homosexuality in the ranks and allowing women in combat arms (topics for future discussion). Decades of denigrating the military and intentionally subverting its combat effectiveness was a prelude to the Biden regime’s open attacks on the military.

In the 2023 edition of its World Watch List, religious freedom group Open Doors estimated that nearly 90 percent of the Christians killed for their faith last year were killed in Nigeria. The Christian aid group International Christian Concern (ICC) identified Nigeria as “the world’s most dangerous place to be a Christian in the world” in 2023. USCIRF said there was “no justification” for leaving Nigeria and India off the list, especially since the State Department’s own “reporting and statements” suggest both countries should be on it.

Type in “decolonize.” That word — though surely not the only lens through which to view the current relationship between Europe and the rest of the world — is in the titles of seven courses and the descriptions of 18 more. Try “oppression” and “liberation.” Each is in the descriptions of more than 80 courses. “Social justice” is in over 100. “White supremacy” and “Enlightenment” are neck and neck, both ahead of “scientific revolution” but behind “intersectionality.” […] While Harvard cannot stop the abuse of our teaching, we, the Harvard faculty, can recognize and work to mitigate these impacts. The political bias in our faculty is now widely accepted. One solution is to use a kind of affirmative action program for conservative thinkers to change the faculty, but that idea is noxious and misses a crucial point. Scientists are hoping to turn a deadly African virus into a therapy for a deadly childhood cancer. The Zika virus is a mosquito-borne infection that reduces levels of a protein which forms in excess levels in patients with certain cancers. A team of researchers in Florida has shown that, in mice at least, it can can wipe out tumors known as neuroblastomas, which make up one in seven childhood cancer deaths and form in the nerve cells as children develop. There hasn’t been a treatment for these types of brain cancers in over 40 years. Dr Matthew Davis of Nemours Children’s Health in Florida, who conducted the research, said the team ‘are at the forefront of potentially lifesaving cancer treatment.’

Laws banning the Nazi salute and the display or sale of symbols associated with terror groups came into effect in Australia on Monday as the government responds to a rise in antisemitic incidents following the Israel-Gaza war.
