Castro was the proprietor of Castro & Company LLC, a digital tax preparation firm with establishments in Orlando, Mansfield, and Washington, D.C., per WFAA. According to court documents, Castro promised significantly higher refunds than other tax preparers and often proposed to split the extra refund with taxpayers. To achieve these larger refunds, he reportedly created false deductions and submitted them without the taxpayers’ knowledge.

Joe Biden has restored the 80,000-page Federal Register as the norm. On December 30, 2022, the Federal Register closed out at 80,756 pages (up 10 percent from 73,321 at the end of Biden’s first year), a figure that will adjust downward slightly by a few hundred pages in the final National Archives reckoning and be taken into account later. One can compare Biden’s tally with two extremes, high and low. At the end of 2016, Obama’s final calendar year, the number of Federal Register pages stood at 95,894, which at the time was the highest level in the history of the Federal Register. Conversely, the first calendar year of the Trump administration finished with 61,308 pages in the Federal Register (see Figure 9). The last time the annual page count had been that low was in 1993, at 61,166 pages, during the Clinton administration. By the time Trump was inaugurated on January 20, 2017, the Obama administration had already added 7,630 pages to the Federal Register, putting Trump’s “net” page count at 53,678.

Here’s how it’s supposed to work: legislation is proposed (by the president or a member of Congress) through an “authorization” bill that “can establish, continue, or modify an agency, program, or activity” including the estimated cost. However, a separate “appropriations” legislation must then be passed to fund that project/activity (i.e., the amount that actually will be spent). The U.S. Constitution, Article I, Section 9, Clause 7 reads: “No money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law.” According to Cornell’s Legal Information Institute (LII), “This was intended as a restriction upon the disbursing authority of the Executive department” (emphasis mine). But that hasn’t stopped the U.S. national debt from growing exponentially. The U.S. In 1971, the debt was $398 billion; 1981 was the last year our debt was below the $1 trillion mark. Under Barack Obama, the debt jumped from just under $12 trillion to almost $20 trillion, even more than the almost $6 trillion increase under George W. Bush. Under Trump, there was another $6.5 trillion increase in national debt (fueled partly by the recession but especially by the COVID debacle). When Joe Biden took office the debt was almost $27 trillion, and today it stands at $34 trillion — a $7 trillion increase in just three years.

The US Labor Department’s new worker classification rule is a major step backwards, causing trouble for worker and employer alike as they try to deal with the uncertainties and contradictions inherent in this horribly misguided effort. The department should have simply left well enough alone. The previous administration attempted to bring clarity to the rule, which determines when a worker is a traditional employee and when they are an independent contractor, aka a freelancer. The Trump administration narrowed the rule’s scope in 2021 to two key factors for determining classification: the degree of control by the workers and their opportunity “for profit or loss” – i.e., whether they were assuming any economic risk for the work. In short, if the workers were mostly calling the shots, they were freelancers. This allowed much-needed flexibility to deal with the changing economy and the growth of the so-called “gig” economy.

The Biden administration rule discards that common-sense approach to largely revert to old rules created long before the rise of the gig economy. This makes about as much sense as applying horse-and-buggy regulations to Teslas.

Over two dozen Republican attorneys general are challenging a proposed rule from the New York Stock Exchange that they say would illegally implement a radical environmentalist agenda and harm national security. The rule from the NYSE would create a listing entity called a Natural Asset Company (NAC), which would be empowered to control private and public lands by capturing “the intrinsic and productive value of nature” and block things like logging, herding, and drilling from happening on the land. The Securities and Exchange Commission is considering the proposal to approve NACs and is taking public comment until January 18. “If it approves the NYSE’s proposal, the Commission will have effectively enabled the NYSE, the most well-known and influential stock exchange on earth, to authorize the existence of entities that could ultimately be used to subordinate the interests of millions of Americans to the aims of environmental activists as well as to United Nations policies and mandates,” a Tuesday letter from 25 Republican attorneys general led by Utah AG Sean Reyes and Kansas AG Kris Kobach said.

We cannot spend our way into a “clean” energy future. More than 70,000 attendees of the COP28 conference from around the world flew to Dubai, one of the global hubs of oil wealth, a shining beacon of development in the desert, to commiserate over the state of the world. Unlike many of the climate “warriors” attending a winter party in the Arabian Peninsula, where the daytime temperatures hovered dreamily between 80–90 degrees Fahrenheit and sunsets glowed over the Persian Gulf, I, at least, had flown commercial. Slogans like “Action Builds Trust” and “Action Creates Hope” were printed on billboards towering over the highways and peppered across the COP28 Expo grounds. Alas, “Action Burns Carbon” went unmentioned. Inside one of the technological expo spaces, Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) gave a presentation. While most of its power comes from oil, the company has already built one of the largest solar arrays on earth providing power production for a not-insignificant portion of the city and its surroundings electricity needs.

One of the things to remember about climate change madness is that it has all the scientific validity of the flat earth theory or the ancient medical belief in humors. That is to say, it’s a sealed universe driven by self-reinforcing faith and fantasy without any serious reality attached. The last two days have brought two new examples of the delusions and outright lies that drive the climate change narrative. On the delusion side, we have Axios’s horror that the earth is within 1.5 degrees of the global warming limit set at the Paris Climate Accords, paired with its assurance that (and I’m quoting more accurately than Claudine Gay ever would), “The climate of 2023 was the hottest seen in at least 125,000 years […]” (Emphasis mine.) There are a couple of obvious problems with that article.

The deal, which would appropriate $1.59 trillion in spending until Sept. 30, 2024, has been vehemently opposed by many conservative members of the House Republican Conference, who voted on Wednesday to defeat a rules package that would have allowed for the consideration of several bills. There are two prevailing interpretations of the recent Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea. Kendall: Kim Jong Un’s Latest Aggression Should Have Us Rethinking Our North Korea Policy

No amount of carrot or stick is going to convince Kim Jong Un to abandon his nuclear weapons, so why are we set on denuclearization? At North Korea’s ninth plenary meeting two weeks ago, Kim Jong Un broke with decades of official policy and declared reunification with South Korea “impossible,” describing the two Koreas as “belligerent states” at war. In his diatribe, Kim took particular aim at South Korea’s relationship with the United States, saying, “South Korea at present is nothing but a hemiplegic malformation and colonial subordinate state whose politics is completely out of order, whole society tainted by Yankee culture, and defense and security totally dependent on the U.S.” He also threatened to annihilate South Korea and the United States if they provoked North Korea. Whether Kim concocted these words himself, or if it was his propagandist younger sister, Kim Yo Jong, the sentiment is striking and paints a grim outlook for a region at the center of U.S. foreign policy.

When faced with the possible return of President Donald Trump, the current agenda of the Democratic Party is summed up simply as “We had to destroy democracy to save it.” The effort shares a common theme: any means necessary are justified to prevent the people from choosing their own president, given the fear that a majority might vote to elect Donald Trump. Sometimes the anti-democratic paranoia has been outsourced to state and local officials and prosecutors to erase Trump from the primary and likely general election ballots as well. One unelected official in Maine, Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, is a Democrat, an official never elected by the people, and a non-lawyer rendering a legal edict. Yet she has judged Trump guilty of “insurrection.” And presto, she erased his name from the state’s ballot.

Yesterday, a Brooklyn high school informed parents their children will be getting low-quality remote instruction because their school is being turned into a refugee camp. Also, pro-illegal immigration Governor Kathy Hochul won Brooklyn 72% to 28%.” […] This is just a stark illustration of a phenomenon affecting the 50 million American K-12 kids still seriously struggling to recover from three years of lockdown learning damage. Just as they’ve gotten back into schools, American kids everywhere are being placed in classrooms with even more illegal migrant kids who don’t speak the language, don’t share our customs, are in high-risk circumstances linked with bad classroom behavior, and whose trafficking into America is swelling the fortunes of evil cartels.

It’s not about “if’” it will happen, but rather “when.” What’s happening at the border appears to be a deliberate strategy. The logic seems to be that you can’t “rebuild” a country as vast and powerful as the USA while she’s flourishing. First, you need to bring her to her knees. This creates the opportunity needed to rebuild her in a so-called “new and improved” manner.

The Michigan State Police redacted the name of the suspect they claim dropped off between 8,000-10,000 voter registration forms at the Muskegon City Clerk’s office, but in one spot in their report, they left her name unredacted: Meisch stated some of the forms were dropped off in person to the Muskegon City Clerk’s Office on 10/8/20 by a black female. The female identified herself as Brianna Hawkins and stated she was employed by and/or told Meisch that her employment entailed registering voters and helping them obtain absentee ballots. [Redacted] provided Meisch with a mobile phone number of [redacted] Meisch said that [redacted] appeared nervous to talk about her employment and said she would need to call her supervisor before answering any additional questions. Meisch estimated that [redacted] and [redacted] (we are now fairly certain GBI (Strategies) and EM or Empower Michigan were redacted from the report)

The application to the ICJ against Israel by South Africa alleges that Israel has violated the Genocide Convention, to which it is a signatory.

The Ohio House of Representatives on Wednesday afternoon voted to override Governor Mike DeWine’s veto of legislation that would ban child gender transition hormone therapy and surgeries as well as boys in girls’ sports. In a 65–28 vote, the chamber, after convening for a special session, rejected the Republican governor’s attempt to kill the SAFE Act. The bill now heads to the state senate, which will be in session on January 24, for an override vote.

Remember how we were boycotting Bud Light for trying to impose the cultural values of your standard Chardonnay-swilling divorced shut-in cat lady upon America? Well, as conservatives often do, they have squandered their advantage for about 30 pieces of silver. Bud Light looked at the conservative movement and did the smart thing. It paid tens of millions of dollars to a bunch of pseudo-conservative influencers to buy their acquiescence.

In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past 8 or so years and don’t know what Pizzagate is, here’s a brief explanation according to the left-wing site Wikipedia: “Pizzagate” is a conspiracy theory that went viral during the 2016 United States presidential election cycle, falsely claiming that the New York City Police Department had discovered a pedophilia ring linked to members of the Democratic Party while searching through Anthony Weiner’s emails. The issue with the media and the left’s swift dismissal of the theory as a “conspiracy” is that there does seem to be a grain or two of truth to it. Without getting into too much “pizza,” the truth of the matter is that an alarming number of elites are being apprehended for child pornography and trafficking. Jeffrey Epstein was operating a full-scale pedophile ring, and according to court records, Bill Clinton was allegedly knee-deep in it and preferred his girls “young.”

Now, this doesn’t prove Pizzagate by any means. However, it certainly lends credibility to certain aspects of the theory that suggest elites are involved in depraved activities concerning children

It aims to ‘end stigma, uplift community and provide access to resources in real time to combat social determinants of health with an emphasis on healthcare access for black and Latinx transgender and queer communities’.
