Congress apparently wants to open America to every citizen of the world who heralds from a country where the government cannot control crime. The Senate’s emergency appropriations bill released on Sunday won’t address the border crisis, and contrary to the accomplice media’s spin, the spending bill won’t “severely curtail asylum at the US southern border.” The bill could have had the Senate reclaim the reins of lawmaking from the executive and judicial branches and clarify that widespread criminality in another country is not a basis for asylum in America. Instead, the 370-page bill, the “Emergency National Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2024,” includes funding for both Israel and Ukraine, plus decidedly insufficient provisions for addressing aliens and immigration. The backers of the Senate bill seek to portray its provisions as, in the words of Joe Biden, the “toughest and fairest set of border reforms in decades.” There is little that is “tough” in the bill, however, and what is can easily be sidestepped — either by the Biden administration or the throngs of illegal aliens invading from the south.

At her request, lawmakers have presented bills to share the statewide voter registration file, establish the crime of threatening a poll worker, and recently SB 17, which modifies the state’s recently-enacted law requiring new South Dakota voters to have resided in the state for at least 30 days. As currently amended, this bill would essentially open the door to anyone living anywhere to vote in South Dakota elections. As originally introduced, Senate Bill 17 sought to add language to the state’s 30-day residency requirement specifically demanding individuals live in South Dakota “for at least thirty days in the three hundred and sixty-five days immediately prior” to registering to vote. Now the bill, in its current form as amended by the Republican-controlled Senate, would abandon the 30-day residency protections entirely and do away with current residency law that defines a residence as “an actual fixed permanent dwelling.” Such a change would allow practically anyone to buy a South Dakota mailing address and use it to vote.

In addition, language in SB 364 would help social media companies avoid First Amendment challenges if they collude with government actors to restrict speech and suppress dissent.

US Capitol Police said Thursday they would not press charges against two men who filmed themselves having gay sex in a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing room last year. “After consulting with federal and local prosecutors, as well as doing a comprehensive investigation and review of possible charges, it was determined that — despite a likely violation of Congressional policy — there is currently no evidence that a crime was committed,” USCP said in a statement. By the time police responded to a call shortly before 10 a.m. regarding a Chinese man and woman conducting surveillance near a security entrance of the historic Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam, the two fled in what police identified as a 2021 silver Nissan Altima, with unidentified plates. The two suspects had been “capturing digital media of the entry control point,” police said. Later that afternoon the pair–a man with a black crew cut and the woman with shoulder-length hair, a pink top, and a white skirt–appeared at another entry point. Police issued a “BOLO,” or “be-on-the-lookout,” notice for the two at all base entrances.

This Sept. 29 incident represents just one of at least 14 instances since 2018 of Chinese nationals spotted attempting to either gain entry into the Pearl Harbor base or conduct surveillance, according to records obtained by The Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project. Dershowitz: Civilian Deaths in Gaza: Relatively Low

Critics of Israel almost never cite comparable data from other military encounters. This omission creates the false impression that the civilian death tolls in Gaza are among the highest in history, when they are in fact among the lowest.
The New York Times’ conclusion that the new data suggests that it is “wrong to accuse [Israel] of wanting to maximize civilian deaths” is highly relevant to the false charges of genocide that are being considered by the International Court of Justice.
The decreasing civilian death rate among Gazans should also end the campaign to impose a ceasefire on Israel before the IDF completes its legitimate mission to destroy Hamas’ military capacity. Successfully completing that mission will save civilian lives in the long run, by reducing Hamas’ capacity to keep its promise of repeating the barbarism of October 7 and also by reducing its use of civilian shields.

Several Georgetown University Medical School students recently enlisted a personal injury attorney to threaten a lawsuit against the Washington Free Beacon if it does not remove a December report detailing the students’ defense of Hamas’s Oct. 7 terror attacks in Israel. Their attorney, Sofian Solomon Dawood, wrote in a Jan. 4 letter that the Free Beacon had violated “state and federal privacy and data laws” by quoting the students’ social media posts. By quoting and providing examples of the information the students themselves posted to social media, Dawood argued, the Free Beacon “leaked personal information of some of my clients, including their social media accounts, LinkedIn profiles, and photographs from private accounts.” The Georgetown Med students also appear to accuse the Free Beacon, through their lawyer, of “defamation, slander, negligence, and libel.” […] In his letter to the Free Beacon, Dawood argues that his clients “never endorsed Hamas’s terror attacks.” The medical students’ Instagram posts tell a different story. This is the second article in a three-part series on populism, pacificism, and isolationism. The first article, “The Past,” can be found here.] As in historical instances of a bipartisan pacifist/isolationist coalition arising, the same necessary ingredients are required to bridge the partisan divide: alienation from and disillusionment with domestic representative institutions and foreign interventionism. In consequence, populist movements possess a predilection for pacificism and/or isolationism. Populists have determined that powerful elites governing a country are expanding their power and prosperity at the expense of the common people. Their rights infringed, and their pursuit of happiness hindered, populists have little incentive to support, let alone kill for, the repressive, elitist regime and their foreign military adventurism. Such alienation and disillusionment—and, ergo, populism—further spreads among the remainder of the population should the government’s military ventures fail to meet their promised results. Today, if we limn the outlines of each party’s populist wings, we respectively find the “Bernie Bros” and “MAGA.” While differing in many respects on their proposed solutions, both believe elitists are infringing on their rights and obstructing their pursuit of happiness. They have a shared sense of alienation from an unresponsive government. To wit, both parties’ populist wings opposed the Wall Street bailout. While this alienation can ebb and flow depending on which party is in power, it cannot be fully extinguished because its root causes have yet to be ameliorated and eradicated.

The pilot program is being rolled out at the Roosevelt Hotel in Manhattan, with 500 families involved, The New York Post reported. A family of four will get a card loaded with $1,000-a-month, equivalent to $35 a day. Those selected will be given cards which can be only used at bodegas, supermarkets and delis. Migrants must sign an affidavit promising to only use the cards for food and baby supplies, or else have them cut off. It is unclear how the City of New York will know if they’re just being used in bodegas as intended. The amount on each card will depend on individual circumstances. It is unclear how city officials will check if cards are being abused – and if the scheme will worsen the crisis by encouraging other migrants to head to the Big Apple in the hopes of receiving free money.
