He subsequently came to school wearing the T-shirt with the word “Censored” taped over the original message, so that it read: “There Are [Censored] Genders.” The principal, impervious to irony, told him that was banned too. He was allowed to return to class only after putting on a different shirt. Morrison knew, of course, that the message on his shirt contradicted a view promoted at Nichols Middle School, where students are encouraged in June to “wear your Pride gear to celebrate Pride Month” and there is an active Gay-Straight Alliance club. The exemptions only apply to the legislature, not to other policymaking bodies such as a city council or county commission. […] First Amendment attorney Steve Zansberg, president of the Colorado Freedom of Information Coalition, said the proposal, in essence, “completely exempts the General Assembly, and all its constituent committees, from the open meetings law.” “It would allow state legislators (i.e., all of them, collectively) to discuss all pending legislation via electronic communications without the public ever being able to inspect those communications,” Zansberg said. Judge Jones can hire an independent director of compliance, and she has the authority to compel Trump to sell some or even all of his businesses down the road. This is all punishment for Trump allegedly committing fraud by falsely in inflating and deflating the value of his real estate assets to pay lower state taxes and to receive more favorable loans from banks. Donald Trump has just a few weeks to find a way to pay, or guarantee that he will pay, the $355 million fine that a New York judge imposed on him in the lawsuit brought by the state’s Democratic Attorney General Letitia James. The suit was the culmination of James’ campaign to bring financial ruin on the former president, and it might succeed; unless it is reduced on appeal, the actual amount Trump will owe, including interest, could top $450 million. […] that this was an example of selective prosecution, that there were no victims, that the loans were paid back in a “timely and total” fashion, that the lending institutions made the loans based not on Trump’s representations but on their own research, and that some of those institutions were eager to do business with Trump again — all meant that a far smaller penalty, perhaps a tiny fraction of what Judge Arthur Engoron imposed, would be appropriate. Engoron wrote a 92-page opinion explaining his actions. First, if you wondered why there was no jury and the decision was left to Engoron and Engoron alone, the judge noted that that is New York law in this case. James structured the lawsuit so that Trump could not appeal to the judgment of a jury.

With that background, Haney seemed a good fit for the Department of Homeland Security, but when he tracked down Muslim terrorists the DHS bosses had a problem. In “DHS ordered me to scrub records of Muslims with terror ties,” published in The Hill on May 5, 2016, Haney said DHS had ordered him “to delete or modify several hundred records of individuals tied to designated Islamist terror groups like Hamas from the important federal database, the Treasury Enforcement Communications System (TECS).” […] On February 21, 2020, the highly visible whistleblower turned up dead by gunshot. Scientists at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) in Massachusetts are planning an experiment in which they will dump approximately 6,000 gallons of sodium hydroxide — a common ingredient in soaps, cleansers, and chemical pipe cleaners — into the waters off of Martha’s Vineyard.

The experiment is a part of WHOI’s LOC-NESS project, which seeks to ascertain whether artificial alkalinity enhancement of the Earth’s oceans can help in global efforts to address so-called global warming, which climate activists claim is leading to out-of-control climate change. The scientists at WHOI seek to determine if the world’s oceans can be used to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and store it, where it might have less of an effect on the Earth’s climate system. […] The use of geoengineering as a means to address a climate crisis that doesn’t truly exist seems to be a dangerous and unnecessary risk to the planet. Whether it’s adding a key ingredient of lye soap into the oceans or the spraying of reflective aerosol sulfate material into the atmosphere, the unknowns are too great. The bioethics credo of primum non nocere — first, do no harm — would appear to fit this situation well.

This is a devastating finding, as water vapor is the most significant greenhouse gas due to its alleged “feedback” capacity, accelerating warming well beyond what CO2 is said to be capable of alone.

The authors do not understate the significance of this climate modeling failure. “This represents a major gap in our understanding and in climate model fidelity that must be understood and fixed as soon as possible in order to provide reliable hydroclimate projections for arid/semi-arid regions in the coming decades.”

Howe: Justices decline to intervene in another dispute over race and school admissions

Less than a year after its decision striking down the admissions programs at Harvard and the University of North Carolina as unconstitutional on the ground that they explicitly considered an applicant’s race as part of their admissions process, the Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to wade into the battle over race in admissions again. The justices rejected a request to weigh in on a challenge to an admissions policy at a prestigious public magnet school in Virginia that does not take race into account directly, but instead considers socioeconomic factors in allocating some of the school’s 550 seats. The challengers, a group of parents and alumni, contended that the policy was created to reduce the number of Asian American students, who had previously received nearly three out of four offers of admission. Justice Samuel Alito dissented from the court’s decision not to take up the case, in an opinion joined by Justice Clarence Thomas. Alito contended that the ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit upholding the admissions policy had been “based on a patently incorrect and dangerous understanding of what a plaintiff must show to prove intentional race discrimination,” and he called the 4th Circuit’s reasoning “a virus that may spread if not promptly eliminated.” […] In a 10-page opinion, Alito was sharply critical of the 4th Circuit’s decision. He characterized it as holding, “in essence, that intentional racial discrimination is constitutional as long as it is not too severe” because Asian American applicants still were admitted at a rate that exceeded their representation in the applicant pool. But such a rule, Alito suggested, would effectively allow government officials “to discriminate against any racial group with impunity as long as that group continues to perform at a higher rate than other groups” – an “indefensible” position, in Alito’s view.

More important than squawking over Trump being Trump is the uncritical, reverential acceptance of the Nato Treaty’s Article Five, which is a classic example of what James Madison called a “parchment barrier”–– like most treaties, a political document whose terms will be regularly violated. Consider its actual language: “The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognized by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area.” The highlighted phrases challenge the sacred aura many defenders of the “world’s oldest military alliance” evoke when scolding Donald Trump. After all, what each member state “deems necessary” could range from oratorical bluster and endless “diplomatic engagement,” to serially voting for toothless UN resolutions and participating in Swiss-cheese economic sanctions. And notice how “including the use of armed force” makes actual fighting a mere option. The lack in the treaty of an obligation that each member state mobilize its military and declare war on the offender, weakens it substantially. That’s because sovereign nations look first to their own national interests and security, and will ignore a treaty’s terms when both are put at risk. But if Nato had written that each state was required to send its citizens to actually fight and die for other states, the treaty wouldn’t exist today.

On Sunday evening, police in Burnsville, Minnesota were called to the scene of a domestic disturbance. While the reason for the original call doesn’t seem to have been made public, it is widely reported (or at least rumored) that a suspect was in bed with a fourteen-year-old girl. Police arrived at the scene and found that the suspect was armed. They engaged in lengthy negotiations with him, but he refused to come out from the house where he was holed up. At some point, for reasons that are not yet clear, the suspect started shooting. He killed two Burnsville police officers and a fire medic who came to the aid of one of them. Scott wrote about the case here. For some reason, legacy news outlets initially decided not to identify the perpetrator, […] Given that the murderer in this case was black and his victims were white, legacy media can’t trot out a white supremacy narrative. On December 22, as New York’s LaGuardia Airport was filled with holiday travelers, Tommy Dorfman, an actor who played a gay male on the Netflix teen drama “Thirteen Reasons Why” but then “came out” as a transgender female in 2021, held up the Delta line as “she” denounced an airplane employee for having intentionally “misgendered” her. The employee did so, according to Dorfman, a “transgender activist,” by referring to Dorfman with a male pronoun (even though the employee did refer to Dorfman twice with female pronouns). While the confused employee denied having made the ”error” intentionally, he had to call airport police to talk to Dorfman to end the incident. However, Delta officials promised to investigate the incident, after viewing the TikTok video that Dorfman made of it. Dorfman’s confrontation with the Delta employee exemplifies the problem that Philip K. Howard addresses in Everyday Freedom: the disposition of many Americans to insist that others respect their (often self-invented) “rights,” in a way that undermines the capacity of our institutions, public and private, to address the country’s needs. Companies like Delta have to bend over backward to avoid offending someone, lest they risk not only alienating some bloc of customers, but also being found liable for substantial legal damages. The adoption of an ever-growing list of government regulations and corporate rules to avoid such risks, Howard argues, undermines individual initiative. And the habit of regarding anyone one has to deal with professionally (coworkers, employees, bosses, students, customers) as a potential accuser undermines the sense of social trust that social scientists like Edward Banfield and Francis Fukuyama have demonstrated is the precondition of a healthy polity.

Every year, Muslims of France [the main French Muslim organization, and the French branch of the Muslim Brotherhood] organizes a conference that attracts hundreds of thousands of Muslims from all over Europe. The group also invites radical imams who speak to the crowd.
The survey further showed that 49% of French Muslims want Catholics to convert to Islam, and that 36% percent want churches to be transformed into mosques […] The survey also discloses that 25% of French Muslims said that the word “France” is a word they reject.
France is a country where more than 70% of prison inmates are Muslim. According to reports, the crime rate among the Muslim population is high […] There are also more than two hundred rapes every day in France, most perpetrated by Muslim men who entered France illegally. Only 7% of illegal immigrants ordered to leave France are ever actually deported
A similar situation to that of France can be found in other Western European countries, where the Muslim population may be smaller but is quickly growing.
If Europeans wish to avoid such a future and keep their culture, they need to start making that outcome unmistakably clear to everyone, not just by words but by actions. If not, what we are seeing could well mean the end of the European civilization as we know it.

Bartosch: Why is the NHS indulging ‘breastfeeding’ men?

Men cannot breastfeed. You might have thought this was obvious, but apparently the NHS is unaware of this fact of basic biology. Over the weekend, an astonishing letter from the University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (UHSx) was unearthed, advising that biologically male transwomen can ‘breastfeed’ their babies. Men are able, the letter states, to take a combination of drugs to produce milk that is ‘comparable to that produced following the birth of a baby’. Such advice is not only a punch in the tit to mothers, but also a grotesque inversion of the very purpose of the NHS – namely, to keep us all in good health.
