Whenever the extreme left is in trouble, it labels the other side as extremists. One such label is Christian nationalism. The term is now being used to mischaracterize the Christian right. Its meaning is so elastic that it can be used to suit any occasion. It is vague enough to include any Christian engaged in the culture war. It has just enough punch to insinuate a threatening agenda. Recently, the term made headlines again, being trotted out by those who foresee the danger of an imagined theocracy of Christian supremacists who would govern America based on the Bible. Chief Justice Tom Parker triggered the new attack with his concurring opinion on the recent 8–1 Alabama Supreme Court decision on embryo personhood. The outspoken Methodist chief justice supported his opinion by citing God, Scripture, Saint Augustine, Saint Thomas Aquinas, and others. The February 16 decision was enough to unleash outrage from leftists and moderates. Washington Post associate editor Ruth Marcus penned a column titled: “Welcome to the Theocracy.” The more moderate New York Times columnist David French immediately attacked the opinion as an ominous development. Mr. French said he had no problems with people being Christian or even bringing their beliefs to the public square. However, they must not advocate deference to Christianity in the body politic. Christians should not seek to return America to its Christian roots, even if done through logical and gentle persuasion.

Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, founded and funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, reposted an article criticizing meme creators for spreading anti-vaccine messaging and profiting from pandemic fears. Critics said it utilizes the “accusation in a mirror” tactic of attributing one’s misdeeds to opponents.

House Natural Resources oversight subcommittee hearing Thursday examined initiatives to create regulations allowing for controversial accounting methods that subjectively assess the value of environmental capital – a large departure from traditional accounting practices and regulations. No proponent of the concept appeared on the panel of witnesses. Rep. Melanie Stansbury, D-N.M. said Democrats had invited proponents to testify, but they all declined over concerns over how they’d be treated at the hearing. Following a backlash, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in January backed off a plan to create “natural asset companies,” which would have established a regulatory framework to monetize markets in ecosystem services. These services would effectively place value on public lands solely in terms of subjective environmental values, which means no objectively measurable economic output.

Just the News Staff: Federal judge rules that Biden administration cannot divert funds from border wall construction

A federal judge ruled on Friday against the Biden administration’s plans to re-direct money from border wall construction to other projects more to its liking, such as environmental remediation. Judge Drew B. Tipton, of the Southern District of Texas, said that it is up to Congress how that money is spent. Congress allocated nearly $1.4 billion for wall-building for fiscal years 2020 and 2021, according to The Washington Times. But the Biden administration argued that the “remediation projects” they wanted to spend that money on were ancillary to the wall, and that it should be allowed. Judge Tipton said that based on the way the law was written, it was clear and specific that the money was intended to be spent on barriers along the border.

If any evidence came up contrary to the notion of a deadly virus killing the world and a vaccine being developed in eight months being “safe and effective,” it was quickly quelled by the powers that be and ruled to be “misinformation” and “dangerous.” Where is the societal outrage when thousands of young people are suddenly seeking surgery and drugs to support the myth they have “misidentified” themselves based on what they are told is a lie about their biological identity? Where is the “I’m mad as hell” when “authority” determines that they are the final arbiters of truth over children, and their parents can just go to hell?

King posted the man’s photo and name to his one million followers. Cantrell later committed suicide. A black man named Larry Woodruffe murdered the girl.

Guerra: In Arizona, guaranteed income programs face GOP opposition

In December 2021, the Phoenix City Council approved a pilot guaranteed income program for 1,000 low-income families that would provide $1,000 a month. Like many of the popular guaranteed income programs, it was funded by federal emergency money from the American Rescue Plan Act.

An estimated 150 guaranteed income programs have popped up across the state and now Republicans are pushing back trying to ban them. The Foundation for Government Accountability think tank estimates that at least $2.35 billion has been budgeted or spent on universal basic income type programs in the U.S.
