You mentioned that you live in the San Antonio area. I was stationed at Lackland AFB 2001 to 2004. I really liked the post and city. I was in the Air force’s Security forces, basically their military police/infantry. When I got out of the military I worked for USAA in security. My wife and I left San Antonio after I received a great job offer from Neiman Marcus in Dallas. San Antonio still has a special place in my heart, my wife and I were married there, I have so many great memories. There is a Russian author whose name I have a hard time saying and would be hopeless in an attempt to spell it. He wrote a book called A Day in the Life of a prisoner. I was reading that book when I was told to report to this prison and so I did not get to finish it. It is a book written about the day in the life of a Soviet prisoner. I really was enjoying the book and I will finish reading it one day when I get the chance. I have a much better plight than the protagonist in that book, but I will include here in this letter my day as it was lived today as it might amuse or interest you.

The director of the Bill and Hillary Clinton Airport in Arkansas was being investigated for illegal gun dealing when he was fatally injured in a shootout with federal agents serving a search warrant at his home. Bryan Malinowski, 53, died in the hospital at noon on Thursday, two days after the confrontation with ATF agents at his home in west Little Rock. The search warrant revealed that he was suspected of trading more than 150 firearms between May 2021 and February of this year, six of which were later used in crimes, and one of which ended up with a 15-year-old gang member in California. ‘Even if the allegations in the affidavit are true, they don’t begin to justify what happened,’ his family said in the statement this evening. ‘At worst, Bryan Malinowski, a gun owner and gun enthusiast, stood accused of making private firearm sales to a person who may not have been legally entitled to purchase the guns.’ […] It’s all speculation at this point. I got a feeling that he bought something he shouldn’t have. That’s the only thing I can think of,’ he added. Matthew also told NBC that agents ‘broke down his door’ leaving his brother no choice but to ‘defend himself’. He added: ‘There’s something fishy here. The ATF went after him in the worst possible way.

On any life-safety metric, from homicides to fire deaths, and on any measure of prosperity or well-being, from population to job growth, Gotham is stagnant or sliding backward. A walk around town reveals no enlightened, well-funded urban oasis but something more like a twenty-first-century version of Frank Capra’s dystopian Pottersville, with neon cannabis-for-sale signs blinking on storefronts, addicts nodding off on sidewalks, and street vendors selling stolen toiletries, even as drugstores lock up merchandise to deter shoplifters.

Lepore: Fuming San Diego residents lash out at city officials over vagrants living in their cars and RVs in ‘family-friendly’ neighborhood

Residents of a San Diego suburb known for its seclusion from the busy downtown and beachfront views is furious as a group of vagrants have started living in their cars and RVs on the streets of the neighborhood. San Diego County is one of the largest segments of California‘s homeless population, with more than 10,000. Locals in Pacific Beach say that the vagrants have moved from the city’s downtown to their neighborhood and are openly defying laws banning them from camping out in their vehicles. The homeless are accused of not just camping out but bringing in drugs and leaving their garbage on the streets, ironically right next to signs that tell them they’re not allowed to park there. Debbie Turnbull, who lives in the area, claims that it’s a problem of the city trying to take the homeless out of the downtown area.

And, I’m afraid, the biggest enemy of free speech.” Logan noted that after the prosecution, earlier that year, of the German comic Jan Böhmermann for mocking Recep Tayyip Erdoğan (at the time, German law criminalized insults directed at foreign heads of state), Teeuwen, out of solidarity with Böhmermann, told a Dutch TV interviewer that he’d been a customer of Erdoğan back when the Turkish president was a boy prostitute in an Istanbul bordello. Simply by telling this joke, Teeuwen was risking arrest in his own country. He didn’t give a damn. […] In a city like Amsterdam, where people still feel the pain of colonial history and slavery,” said Teeuwen in character, “it is incredibly important that people continue to stick together.
