A bill passed by the Arizona House of Representatives Appropriations Committee this week would, if passed by the legislature and signed into law by Republican Gov. Doug Ducey, re-affirm constraints on the Secretary of State’s involvement in election-related lawsuits. The measure stipulates that “the legal defense of Arizona election laws and procedures are of statewide concern and that the AG has the sole authority to defend such laws,” and further that the state attorney general “has sole authority in all election-related litigation” in general.

Michigan pizzeria owner Marlena Pavlos-Hackney, 55, was jailed and fined for violating Whitmer’s stringent COVID-19 restrictions and remaining open. The state withdrew her license to operate but Pavlos-Hackney kept Marlena’s Pizzeria and Bistro open anyway. She even posted a sign in her window that said:

The Chinese military has been ignoring requests from the Biden Pentagon for its top leaders to speak for the first time since it took office in what appears to be a diplomatic stand-off, according to reports. A Financial Times report on Friday revealed Beijing has “rebuffed” three requests from the Pentagon for talks between China’s top military officer, General Xu Qiliang, and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin. Xu is the vice-chair of the Central Military commission and a politburo member.

Jean-Pierre refused to answer questions related to what the consequences for China would be if they refused to comply with additional attempts to investigate the origins of the pandemic. One of the most shocking moments of the press conference was when Jean-Pierre was asked if the administration had ruled out the possibility that the pandemic was deliberate.

Troubled by an influx of critical race theory into the military, a coalition of veterans and congressional Republicans are demanding the Pentagon stop placating left-wing activists and focus on national defense. A July 2020 film by the United States Air Force Academy football team endorsing Black Lives Matter and “antiracism” education prompted retired Lt. Gen. Rod Bishop to speak out against the school’s administrators. Military academies, the 34-year Air Force veteran said, should remain politically neutral, particularly at a time when Black Lives Matter protests have led to riots and violence throughout major cities across the country. “Rather than e pluribus unum, rather than teamwork, rather than cohesion, we’re being taught an ideology which seeks to divide us based on the color of our skin,” Bishop told the Washington Free Beacon. “I’ve flown into combat zones. It didn’t matter if my copilot was black or not. How are we better for teaching all the elements of critical race theory?”

Valdespino: Biden’s War on Due Process
Last week, President Joe Biden nominated Catherine Lhamon to serve as the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights within the Department of Education. Lhamon held the same position under the Obama Administration during which she launched a full-scale attack against due process protections afforded to college students accused of sexual assault. In 2011, the DOE issued a “Dear Colleague” letter which lowered the burden of proof for campus kangaroo courts to “preponderance of evidence” and incentivized schools to wrongly convict students of crimes in order to avoid retaliation from the Department of Education. When Lhamon was appointed as Assistant Secretary in 2013, she took full advantage of the new guidelines to make certain that colleges would always “believe the accuser.” In a 2014 meeting, Lhamon reportedly told attendees that withholding federal funding from schools that refused to endorse the administration’s convoluted view of onus probandi was not an “empty threat.” As a result, the accused faced cases in illegitimate courts which ignored evidence, afforded scant preparation time to defendants, and even failed to inform the accused of the specific allegations levied against them resulting in a bevy of lawsuits filed against the DOE.
