Despite being booted from social media, unfairly impeached twice, the victim of constant harassment and hoaxes and the target of six years of horrific and biased press coverage, Donald Trump remains the only towering figure in the Republican Party. A recent poll showed that 57% of Republicans favored Trump to win the nomination in 2024. His nearest potential challenger registered only 10% support. With such popularity, it was no surprise that his return to the political stage Saturday night in Greenville, North Carolina was eagerly anticipated. In his triumphant speech, Trump wowed the state’s GOP convention for almost 90 minutes. It was clear from the beginning of his address that President Trump intends to exercise strong control over the Republican Party. He wants to make sure “America First” Republicans are elected, instead of the establishment types who have led the GOP to recent defeats.
To address the upcoming North Carolina U.S. Senate race, Trump invited his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, on stage to announce that she was not running for the position due to family commitments. At that point, the President endorsed for the seat U.S. Representative Ted Budd (R-NC), calling him “somebody that you’re going to be so proud of…He will fight like hell.”

Eric Swalwell (D-CA) has hired a private investigator to locate and follow Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) as he attempts to sue him for alleged culpability in the Capitol riot on January 6.. […] D.C. District Judge Amit Mehta granted Swalwell an additional 60 days to attempt to serve Brooks, but declined his lawyers’ request to enlist the help of the U.S. marshals to do so. The Senate is moving fast to pass the U.S. Innovation and Competition Act (USICA), which will spend significant taxpayer dollars to help Washington compete technologically with China. The bill must include strong “research security” provisions to stop China’s rapacious program of acquiring science and technological know-how. U.S. science and technology programs have not been well protected from Beijing to date, and as Congress pumps more government funding into the U.S. research enterprise, such laxity in protecting American intellectual property (IP) can no longer be tolerated. While other costs to U.S. national power are more difficult to measure, the U.S. Trade Representative estimated in 2018 that Chinese theft of American IP costs U.S. firms between $225 billion and $600 billion every year. General Keith Alexander, a former National Security Agency director, has called China’s technology theft “the greatest transfer of wealth in human history.” Members of Congress should revisit the full range and scope of the Chinese Communist Party’s foreign-technology-and-science-acquisition programs and address them in the bill. A crucial fact for congressmen to consider is that acquisition of foreign technology is not an incidental or secondary concern of Beijing’s grand strategy; it is a core component of Beijing’s ambition to be the world’s leading power. The CCP believes that erosion of the U.S. technological base is a requirement for its grand designs. Indeed, General Secretary Xi Jinping has made acquiring “key core technologies” one of his foremost goals.

The Pentagon and US intelligence agencies are closely tracking two Iranian ships that Tehran claims are bound for Venezuela. At the Pentagon and other agencies, officials said that at the moment the ships’ passage is not a concern, but they are being monitored and the intelligence community is working to assess what Iran’s intentions are. The two countries — both the subject of harsh US sanctions — are allies and trading partners that have helped each other withstand the American measures. While it is still unclear if the ships are carrying any weapons, according to multiple US officials, satellite imagery reveals one of them is carrying the kind of small, fast-attack boats that Iran has used to harass US naval ships in the Persian Gulf. And if Iranian vessels gain the ability to access the Atlantic, analysts say it would be a significant step forward for the country’s navy, which has tried and failed to do so in the past.

Vulnerable House Democrats are scrambling to restore their pro-Israel bona fides days after voting against a provision to fund the Iron Dome, which is not the only controversial vote those Democrats made. On Wednesday, more than 30 Democrats, led by New Jersey congressman Josh Gottheimer, signed a bipartisan letter to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, expressing their support for Israel’s missile defense system. “Israel must always have the resources it needs to defend itself from incoming rockets when it is targeted again,” the letter says. The move came weeks after those same Democrats voted against a Republican measure providing $500 million to fund the Iron Dome and other missile defense cooperation programs. Rep. Tony Gonzales (R., Texas), who authored the Iron Dome measure, called the Democrats’ letter writing campaign “a Hail Mary, half-hearted attempt by Democrats to support Israel.” He said it is the duty of Congress, rather than the Pentagon, to set spending priorities.

The Biden administration is “completing the criminal conspiracy” of trafficking and smuggling humans across the border, former ICE Director Tom Homan alleges.O n a recent congressional trip to the Darién Gap in Panama, where tens of thousands of migrants begin their trek to the U.S. southern border, U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany, R-Wis., noted something remarkable. Western Union outlets were stationed near migrant camps on either side of the gap, making it easy for relatives of migrants who are already in the United States to wire funds. Security officials say some of those funds are then used to pay off smugglers and members of cartels at various points along the migrants’ trip to America. Tiffany said he fears the COVID-19 stimulus payments approved by Congress may be driving some of the flow of money. “They all get paid,” he told Just the News A.M. TV show. “In fact, I suspect that some of those stimulus payments that are going out to illegals here in our country – that $1,400 they qualified for as the result of the $1.9 trillion stimulus bill passed a couple months ago – are probably going back to the smugglers.” Tiffany isn’t alone in his assessment.

By returning Lhamon to her former post at the Education Department’s Office of Civil Rights, Biden all but guarantees that students will revert to the horror of having practically no rights at all. On May 13, the White House announced that it would nominate Catherine Lhamon to serve as the Department of Education’s assistant secretary for civil rights. Lhamon is no stranger to the Education Department or the post, which she held from 2013 to 2017 with disastrous results. During her time in office, she promoted the “Dear Colleague Letter,” a notorious 2011 missive that required all institutions of higher education receiving U.S. federal funds to investigate allegations of “discriminatory harassment”—most notably including alleged sexual harassment—under a federal mandate purportedly contained within Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, but curiously unnoticed by anyone for nearly 40 years. In a Kafkaesque distortion of Title IX’s original purpose, which was to ensure equal access to collegiate sports facilities for men and women . . […] The results were predictable. Accusations emerged from drunken hookups, bad breakups, offhand comments, disputed grades, soured mentorships, injudicious hugs, or admonitions against classroom misconduct, often months or even years after the fact. Abusing Title IX for blackmail, revenge, intimidation, or to remove a rival are far from unknown. Enormous amounts of time and resources have been squandered in dissecting all available data of a respondent’s life to detect “corroborating evidence” in order to support a guilty finding. A veil of “confidentiality” kept all proceedings ostensibly secret, with the effect that respondents, who almost never receive any form of institutional support or in situ legal representation, are isolated from their classmates, colleagues, friends, and in some cases even their families.

The group illegally took over part of the street, with no notification to drivers approaching the area. The militants had no permit to take over the street, which means they should have relegated their march to local sidewalks. Instead, they frightened motorists with an armed checkpoint of the kind that U.S. troops have seen operated by ISIS, Al-Shabaab, and al-Qaeda. Two drivers who happened upon the mob were ordered out of their vehicles at gunpoint. One of the drivers, . . . After being stopped in his vehicle by law enforcement, the U.S. Marshals Service say he “produced a handgun.” The circumstances did not matter however, and hoodlums took the opportunity to rob Target — for “justice” — or whatever.

My more tech-knowledgeable friends and I had long had informal side bets about when Facebook and Twitter would kick Trump off their sites, but we always pictured it happening after he left office. Even as people fully aware of the power, hostility, and arrogance of Big Tech, the most cynical among us were still surprised it would act so radically. When Trump said America needed to be great, corporate media said it had never been great. The New York Times even launched a massive project to prove this. Although they later had to retract the opening thesis of the project — that the colonists rebelled to preserve slavery — their friends gave them a Pulitzer anyways. When Trump insulted the vicious and evil MS-13 gang of rapists and child murderers, calling them “animals,” corporate media defended MS-13. Attacking evil international gangs this way is extremely racist, they said. “Bigotry,” Emmy-award-winning journo Jamil Smith intoned in Rolling Stone, “requires that the enemy be made out to be less than human, and Trump has long made use of blurry lines to criminalize entire groups of people.” When Trump said our European allies needed to contribute to their own defense and pay their bills, corporate media said they didn’t and that this was unfair. Think about it: For about five years, anything candidate, president-elect, and President Trump said or did, the media, the Left, and progressive popular culture opposed in Pavlovian fashion. Anything that Trump touched was ridiculed or discredited—regardless of evidence, data, or cogency. The merits of a Trump policy, a Trump assessment, a Trump initiative were irrelevant—given the primordial hatred of the Left of all things Trump: the president, the person, the family. Under the reductionist malady of Trump Derangement Syndrome, facts and logic did not matter. Instead, anything not said or done in opposition to Trump empowered the supposed existential Trump threat. Ironically, some of the most deductive and reductionist Trump haters were supposedly professionals, the highly educated, and the self-proclaimed devotees of the Enlightenment. And yet in their uncontrolled aversion and detestation, they suspended all the rules of empiricism, logic, and rationality—and people died as a result. […] And soon the time-tried hydroxychloroquine was considered an existential evil on par with Trump himself. […] Additional reports from India that some doctors there felt that the sudden widespread use of hydroxychloroquine and the anti-parasitical drug Ivermectin were responsible for decreases in COVID-19 lethality were likewise mocked. Now we read this week that a new study conducted at the Saint Barnabas Medical Center, New Jersey, found that when the dosages of hydroxychloroquine were calibrated and adjusted by patient weight, and fortified by the antibiotic azithromycin, there was a more than 100 percent increase in survival rates among COVID-19 patients—without any correlation to heart arrhythmias.
