Hunter Clark saved a baby at the airport in Kabul, Afghanistan captured in a viral video before appearing with Trump in Atlanta to cheers of “USA! USA! USA!” “Clark’s command is reportedly looking into whether he violated the military’s ban on active-duty troops engaging in political activity,” Task & Purpose reports.

Former president Donald Trump endorsed a one-time critic and Democratic donor in Arizona’s crowded Republican gubernatorial primary. Trump on Tuesday announced his support of Kari Lake for Arizona governor, calling the former news anchor a “fantastic person” who will “make … the MAGA movement very proud.” In 2017, however, Lake admonished Trump for his infamous press conference held after the “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Va. Lake told her Facebook followers the press conference marked “a real $hit$h0w” during which Trump “showed absolutely no self-control.” […] Lake made her first ever political donation to Kerry in 2004, and she officially left the GOP two years later, changing her party affiliation to independent ahead of the 2006 midterms. Lake later registered as a Democrat in 2008 and held the affiliation for four years. She justified the contributions to Democrats by saying she “thought the Republican Party had lost its way with the endless wars in Afghanistan and Iraq” and “was really excited about the first black president.”

Such emergency disputes are sometimes referred to as the Court’s “shadow docket” because they are decided on an accelerated basis without arguments, and often without detailed reasoning from the justices. Alito acknowledged the Court is resolving more emergency appeals than it once did, but he accused partisan critics of undertaking “unprecedented efforts to intimidate the Court or damage it as an independent institution.” “The catchy and sinister term ‘shadow docket’ has been used to portray the Court as having been captured by a dangerous cabal that resorts to sneaky and improper methods to get its ways,” Alito said in a speech at the University of Notre Dame.

Solomon: FBI still failing to follow FISA warrant rules, jeopardizing civil liberties, probe finds
The FBI under Director Chris Wray continues to fail to follow its rules and procedures for Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act warrants in the aftermath of the Russia fiasco, jeopardizing American civil liberties, the Justice Department’s internal watchdog warned Thursday. In all, Inspector General Michael Horowitz found more than 200 FISA warrant applications with missing information or documentation that violated the bureau’s so-called Woods Procedures between 2015 and 2019, making clear reforms that Wray put into place have not solved problems that first surfaced in the 2016 election cycle, particularly a FISA warrant against Trump adviser Carter Page during the now-discredited Russia probe.

Today in New York City, roughly 72 percent of black residents aged 18-44 have not taken the novel vaccine, meaning now roughly 72 percent of black residents aged 18-44 are banned — banned — from entering dining establishments. Statewide, 53 percent of black residents aren’t vaccinated, compared to only 44 percent of white residents who have declined the shots; yet this week, the state’s governor announced she would use the powers of this unending emergency to fire and replace as many as 72,000 health workers for refusing the vaccine. […] The Democratic Party has become beholden to the Big Business it once hated so much, even at the expense of Big Labor and Big Race. Corporate money is now on their side. Wall Street, Silicon Valley — these centers of wealth chart their party’s path. The technocrats and elites have assumed direct and near-total control. Davidson: Republicans Seek To Ban Biden’s Vaccine Mandate From Interstate Commerce
Five Republican senators banded together on Wednesday to introduce a new bill that would prevent the U.S. Department of Transportation and all of its subagencies from requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination for businesses that engage in interstate commerce. On Wednesday, U.S. Sens. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, Rick Scott of Florida, Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming, Roger Marshall of Kansas, and Mike Lee of Utah introduced the Prevent Unconstitutional Vaccine Mandates for Interstate Commerce Act in an effort to curb the Biden administration’s attempts to mandate the COVID-19 jab for businesses.

The fate of this Grand Republic hangs on these two (so far) stalwarts. Enormous pressure will be brought against the recalcitrant senators. Yet how far can Chuck Schumer push without the two switching party affiliation? Joe is from a very red state and Kyrsten is from a purple state which Biden is likely returning to red. If Manchin and Sinema remain firm, what are the Democrats’ options? One thing is for sure, the Dems aren’t going to give up. […] From 2001 forward, twenty-six senatorial vacancies have occurred, or roughly twice each Congress. Two vacancies opening up before the end of 2022 is well within the law of averages. For the Dems, though, the right vacancies must happen. Let us examine the Senate lay of the land . . . While Washington works overtime to churn out a massive $3.5 trillion social spending package with tax increases during a pandemic with inflation running at or above 5%, Americans prefer cutting government spending to control inflation. Americans are also unanimous that current inflation is not transitory. These are the key findings from an I&I/TIPP poll of 1,300 Americans completed early September. The poll asked if inflation is a long-term problem or a short-term problem that will soon disappear. The charts below show the results.

Davis: Louisiana Hospital System to Dock Pay of Employees With Unvaccinated Spouses
Ochsner Health Systems is a New Orleans-based health provider. Employees received a memo this week explaining that their paychecks would begin to be docked if they carry a spouse on their insurance plan who is unvaccinated. A Twitter user posted a copy of the memo to social media on Thursday morning. The company claims that it cannot be characterized as a mandate because Ochsner employees have the option of seeking medical insurance outside of their network. But let’s think about how utterly chilling (and probably illegal) this mandate – and yes, it is a mandate because a rose by any other name and all that – truly is.

Nitzberg: U.S. Defense Department reports that 580 service members committed suicide in 2020
According to the Associated Press and other outlets, the 580 suicides in 2020 mark an increase from 504 the previous year, though the Defense Departent’s report for calendar year 2019 indicates that 498 service members died from suicide that year. […] The suicides include 384 among the Active Component, 77 among the Reserve, and 119 among the National Guard.
