Meyer: God’s Footprints
Science makes faith plausible, not impossible. Andrew Klavan’s reference to the popular Bell Curve meme calls to my mind a particularly provocative version of that meme, in which the three figures representing the different levels of insight and intelligence address the relationship between science and belief in God. The dullard on the left-hand tail of the curve says, “don’t listen to science, all the answers come from God.” The representative of conventional wisdom sitting at the top of the curve says, “God isn’t real. You should trust the science.” But then, as in all versions of the meme, a twist occurs. The jedi-savant figure at the extreme right-hand tail of the curve reaffirms the existence of God because of, not in spite of, what science has discovered. Something like this progression has played out in Western science and culture over the last century and a half. Proponents of fundamentalist and anti-intellectual expressions of religion often expressed distrust of science for its alleged atheistic tendencies. On the other hand, popular spokesmen for science, such as Richard Dawkins, Bill Nye, and Lawrence Krauss, have told the public that science does, indeed, render belief in God untenable. Consequently, they have helped to establish the conventional wisdom that science shows “God isn’t real” or belief in God is “a delusion,” as Dawkins put it. But as I show in a new book, Return of the God Hypothesis, several major scientific discoveries over the last century have quietly cast doubt on these confident atheistic presumptions. […] All this implies that science itself increasingly supports what Klavan asserts throughout his essay—namely, that “there is a God” and “Creation speaks his nature.”

NBC News recently compared several polls to find huge shifts from Democrats to Republicans in 2022 midterm voter preferences. The big exception to these shifts across many demographics was college-educated women, who in NBC’s aggregation showed even stronger support for Democrats now than ahead of the last midterm election. Here’s the key graphic, which zoomed around social media Sunday, and below that the NBC segment. In trying to understand what might account for this, it’s important to note what we don’t know about these numbers. The two publicly available 2022 NBC polling releases that presumably went into NBC’s aggregation here don’t disclose a key datapoint: The likely vote by marital status. And that datapoint is very important for this discussion. That’s because, historically, married women tend to vote Republican. Single women tend to vote Democrat, in proportions that appear to be sharply increasing. Strikingly, “Among unmarried voters, women were more supportive of Democratic candidates in 2018 than they had been of Hillary Clinton in 2016,” Pew reported. […] In 2018, according to the Pew data, college graduates — of both sexes — voted for Biden over Trump by a 26-point margin. Much of the male portion of that group is ruing their Biden votes, as the new NBC numbers show. So why are lots of men willing to admit that they were wrong in 2020, while the college-educated women as a group are not only not sharing regrets but doubling down?

The Center Square Staff: Georgia elections chief cracks down on non-citizens seeking to vote, refers 1,600 for prosecution
According to a news release, the audit identified 1,634 non-citizens as having attempted to register to vote. The state could not verify the non-citizens through the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ (USCIS) Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) program. “Attempting to register to vote by an individual who knows he or she is ineligible is a violation of Georgia law,” Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney Chris Arnt said in a news release.

Katie Hobbs has made it clear that unborn children will be the most at-risk Arizonians if she is elected governor. During an interview with a local CBS affiliate, the gubernatorial nominee refused to say where she draws the line on abortion. That’s because she doesn’t draw the line. In February, Arizona lawmakers passed a ban on abortions after 15 weeks. But this will likely change if Hobbs becomes governor, as she indicated that there should be no legal limits on abortions in a recent interview. “Abortion is health care,” she responded to a journalist’s question of at what gestational age it should be legal to dismember a live preborn human. Asked again after she failed to support a limit on this practice, Hobbs replied, “Abortion is a personal decision between a woman and her family and her doctor, and that’s something that needs to be discussed in the medical exam room, not by politicians.” […] Perhaps the most appalling of Hobbs’ abortion advocacy was her vote against requiring doctors to try to revive babies who survive abortions.

Former Hillary Clinton campaign attorney Michael Sussmann’s defenders have already been proven wrong on their claim that prosecutors will have a hard time proving Sussmann told the FBI that he was sharing Alfa Bank “intel” on his own, and not on behalf of a client. Shortly after Special Counsel John Durham charged Sussmann with making a false statement to former FBI General Counsel James Baker when he provided Baker with data and three “white papers” purporting to establish a secret communication channel between the Trump organization and the Russia-based Alfa Bank, Sussmann’s friends, former colleagues, and political bedfellows launched a defense of the former Clinton campaign attorney. Predictably, The Brookings Institute, which served as ground zero for the Russia collusion hoax, provided cover to Sussmann on its Lawfare blog. Chief collusion conspiracy theorist Benjamin Wittes penned a veritable defense brief. Wittes, who acknowledged in his article that “Baker is a personal friend and former colleague at Brookings and Lawfare,” attacked both Durham and the indictment.

Pay attention to those last words.[…] Psaki, speaking on behalf of the Biden administration, invoked physician autonomy for the first time in two years saying, Republican lawmakers are currently debating legislation that, among many things, would target trans youth with tactics that threatens to put pediatricians in prison if they provide medically necessary, lifesaving healthcare for the kids they serve. So with COVID, “medically necessary, lifesaving healthcare,” as in off-label therapeutics, is prohibited and potentially criminalized. But when applied to teaching young children about sexual orientation or gender identity, autonomy is encouraged, and any resistance is now criminalized. How does that work? Are physicians to follow the medical science or the political science? Are thoughtful and reasoned approaches to treating COVID wrong but taking a similar approach with schools teaching young children about gender identity applauded and codified into law? Physician judgement and autonomy must remain at the forefront regardless of the issue. Doctors should follow the Hippocratic oath, “In purity and according to divine law will I carry out my life and my art.” Divine law is from God, universal and eternal, not the latest social justice cause.

The second paragraph launches directly into pro-gamer-level gyrations: The bill, HB 233, … would establish common-law marriage between “one man” and “one woman,” but it does not include a minimum age requirement. (emphasis obviously added, because they seriously thought this was an issue.) Opponents of the bill said it could open up the possibility of child marriages. This could only ever be considered an issue to Leftists, who — as the newest Supreme Court justice demonstrated — cannot define “woman.” The rest of us, of course, know that a woman is an adult female human being. But Leftists, who can’t define what a woman is . . . So embarrassing was the progressive wishful thinking, even left-leaning FactCheck.org felt the need to step in and save the party from further humiliation.

Gant: Proof that blue states DID fail their people during pandemic: Harsh lockdowns caused huge deaths rates, ruined kids’ education and destroyed business, bombshell research FINALLY shows – with NY, NJ, CA and IL all receiving an F-grade
States that imposed the harshest lockdowns had the most devastating impact on the public, the most wide-ranging study into Covid restrictions in the US to date has found. New York, California, New Jersey and Illinois were panned for their pandemic performance after bringing in draconian measures to shut their citizens in their homes. Those states’ Democrat Governors’ policies caused high death rates, ruined children’s education and destroyed businesses due to the severe curbs on freedom, researchers found as they slapped them with an F-grade. Nine out of the ten worst responses to the pandemic were in blue states, the report said, with only Republican-run Maryland bucking that trend and coming seventh last. Meanwhile places that allowed their residents more freedom as coronavirus swept across the country appeared to fair better over the last two years. Florida fared sixth, with its Governor Ron DeSantis condemned in the early days of the pandemic for what critics claimed was a reckless desire to reopen too quickly. Utah, Nebraska, Vermont, Montana and South Dakota were also praised by analysts for their pandemic response which did not cause more Covid deaths. Maine was the only Democrat-run state in the top nine best responses, and came eighth. The Republican-led areas – which dominated nine out of the top ten places in the study – have seen their economies remain strong and unemployment figures stay steady due to fewer restrictions.
The report, by the National Bureau of Economic Research and Committee to Unleash Prosperity, said shutting down during the pandemic was ‘by far the biggest mistake governors and state officials made’.

Nobel: The Inherent Contradictions of Socialism
Forecasting the economy is always difficult, but the number of external and internal variables associated with this business cycle is unusually complex. Forces of recovery from lockdown and gigantic fiscal and monetary stimulation are colliding with record-high debt, overvaluation in many markets, and severe inflationary pressures that must be dealt with. If that is not enough, now we get to mix in war and a serious oil and food price shock. The odds of recession seem to be growing. We will be very lucky if we can avoid one. Among the difficulties are the government’s astounding mistakes concerning the Covid policy. While some latitude must be given to the novel nature of the Coronavirus, the government went overboard and basically shut down production with its “stay at home orders” and other restrictions, while at the same time bulling up demand by running huge deficits and handing out money to the public. That decrease in supply and increase in demand is partially responsible for record-high deficits and price inflation. Apparently, our leaders thought something as complex as the international economy could be turned on and off like a light switch. It obviously has proved to be much more complex than that.
