After Biden took office in January 2021, CBP stopped publicly posting updates on TSDB encounters at the border, labeling the information as “law enforcement sensitive,” even though the Trump administration had previously released this data to the public, which frustrated the GOP congressmen demanding the info. […] FY 2022 is currently on track to outpace FY 2021’s numbers, with 131 TSDB encounters so far — 96 encountered at the northern border and 35 at the southern border. As for those encountered by Border Patrol entering between ports of entry, the numbers have increased from two encounters in FY 2017 to 16 in FY 2021 (15 of whom were encountered at the southern border). So far in FY 2022, that number is already higher, with 27 TSDB encounters — all of them at the southern border.

Reports have surfaced that President Joe Biden is overturning the previous administration’s rule recognizing the rights of health-care workers to decline to perform procedures based on conscience concerns. Should affected medical professionals want to keep their jobs and licenses, they would be forced to perform medical procedures they find morally repugnant. The potential SCOTUS ruling on Dobbs v. Jackson only solidifies the division in our country on topics of medical ethics. How will this affect Americans? One out of five medical professionals recently surveyed said they were considering leaving their practice in the next two years, and the U.S. health-care sector is already facing significant labor shortages. The Department of Labor (DOL) does a monthly job vacancy survey to help understand where the American labor market is lacking workers. The number of open health-care jobs has been on the rise over the last 10 years but skyrocketed during the last year. In January 2020 (pre-lockdowns), there were 1.2 million openings for health-care jobs. In January 2021 (pre-vaccine mandate), this number remained stable at about 1.2 million. After the vaccine mandate and the subsequent Supreme Court ruling upholding the mandate for medical professionals, this number exploded. In January 2022, the number of open positions in the medical sector was just under 2 million, a roughly 66 percent increase in unfilled, open positions in one year. This problem is most acute in “blue” areas of our country.

A Wall Street Journal article recently profiled the young high school graduate, who despite a stellar academic record will be attending Arizona State University after receiving rejection letters from the Ivy League schools and some University of California flagships.

Kaitlyn Younger has been an academic standout since she started studying algebra in third grade. She took her first advanced-placement course as a freshman, scored 1550 on her SATs as a junior at McKinney High School near Dallas and will graduate this spring with an unweighted 3.95 grade-point average and as the founder of the school’s accounting club. Along the way she performed in and directed about 30 plays, sang in the school choir, scored top marks on the tests she has so far taken for 11 advanced-placement classes, helped run a summer camp and held down a part-time job.

“She is extraordinary,” said Jeff Cranmore, her guidance counselor at McKinney High School. Ms. Younger, 18 years old, was cautiously optimistic when she applied to top U.S. colleges last fall. Responses came this month: Stanford, Harvard, Yale, Brown, Cornell, University of Pennsylvania, University of Southern California, University of California, Berkeley, and Northwestern all rejected her. Poor Kaitlyn just didn’t get it. No doubt her parents raised her to work hard and try her best at everything. Almost certainly, she believed she lived in a meritocratic country where the most excellent would rise to the top and be rewarded. Sadly, Kaitlyn is wrong. The meritocratic America is dead, and it’s now a husk replaced by a caste-based spoils system. And Kaitlyn, being a white, middle-class, probably heterosexual girl from a flyover state, is nearly at the bottom of this caste system. As Revolver described last year, Kaitlyn is a kulak:

Sand: New Novel Takes Us to an Apocalyptic America

An ominous message for our time. Many dystopian novels have acted as warnings for us over the years. Notably, Nineteen Eighty-Four, written in 1949, centers on the consequences of totalitarianism, mass surveillance and mind control.

The latest entry to the genre is The Awakening of Jennifer Van Arsdale: A Political Fable For Our Time, written by George Leef, director of editorial content for the James G. Martin Center for Academic Renewal. While certainly more light-hearted, and in fact entertaining than the typically apocalyptical genre, it certainly gets its ominous message across nevertheless. In fact, while the book is a work of fiction, many passages resemble life as we experience it today. […] The scary thing about the book, which is written in a very readable, breezy style, is that while many of Farnsworth’s edicts and ways of governing seem almost outlandish at first glance, you quickly realize that her “accomplishments” are policies in the works now or are right around the corner. […] The book is quite entertaining and a worthy read for all Americans. But, notably, it would be a perfect present for any parent to give to high school student who is on his way to college, which in most cases these days is nothing more than a leftist indoctrination center. A moral fable, the book will . . .
