At the end of May, the Census Bureau admitted that it miscounted 14 states in the 2020 Census. Why didn’t the media make a big stink about this story? Maybe it was overshadowed by the recent mass shootings, that’s certainly a possibility, but I have another theory. Here are the states that the Census acknowledged it overcounted: Hawaii, Delaware, Rhode Island, Minnesota, New York, and Massachusetts. Here are the states that the Census acknowledged it undercounted: Texas, Illinois, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Arkansas. Well, gee, isn’t that interesting. Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), who is helping lead bipartisan gun reform talks in the Senate, said on Sunday that any potential deal on legislation would not include an assault weapons ban or “comprehensive” background checks. Murphy told CNN “State of the Union” co-anchor Jake Tapper that the bipartisan group of senators leading the talks following a recent string of high-profile mass shootings met again Saturday night, adding that negotiations are focused on mental health funding, school safety measures and “modest but impactful” gun control proposals. “We’re not going to do everything I want,” Murphy said.

Rep. Donald Beyer (D-Va.), who sits on the House Ways and Means Committee, is looking to put a 1,000% excise tax on AR-15-type rifles as a means of making them less affordable to the public. “What it’s intended to do is provide another creative pathway to actually make some sensible gun control happen,” Beyer told Business Insider. “We think that a 1,000% fee on assault weapons is just the kind of restrictive measure that creates enough fiscal impact to qualify for reconciliation.” With the affected guns ranging in price from $500 to $2000, the tax could add as much as $20,000 to the final sale price of the weapons. While bullets would not be taxed at the high rate, high-capacity magazines would be.

Justice: Liz Cheney Tries To Extract Campaign Cash From J6 Witness Subpoenaed By Her Committee
Ahead of Thursday’s prime-time show-trial hearings for the Jan. 6 Committee, the panel’s vice chair, Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney, is soliciting campaign contributions from those subpoenaed by the witch hunt probe. Megan Small, who was director of operations for the Trump campaign and was subpoenaed by the Jan. 6 Committee in September, published a Cheney campaign mailer on Twitter Monday requesting donations. “Hey [Liz Cheney], is it standard operating procedure on the Jan. 6 committee to ask subpoenaed witnesses for campaign contributions?” Small wrote. Small told The Federalist she received the mailer at her Florida address on May 21, calling the letter “unsavory at best” given the committee’s threats to refer those subpoenaed for criminal prosecution by the Department of Justice (DOJ). “[Cheney] has threatened to make criminal referrals to DOJ of those witnesses,” Small said. “So arguably the campaign contributions is being solicited not just from a witness, but from someone who may or may not be, at her discretion, referred to DOJ for criminal prosecution.”

Pre-recorded testimony from other witnesses is also expected to be shown in addition to live in-person testimony. The seven Democrats and two Republicans will seek to prove their case that last year’s deadly Capitol riot was just one phase in a ‘multi-tentacled plot’ led by Donald Trump to seize hold of the American electoral system, the Post reported. Democrat Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland, a member of the committee, promised in April that the hearings would ‘blow the roof off of the House.’

Collaboration between Congress and Joe Biden’s Justice Department has resulted in contempt charges against Trump confidants Peter Navarro and Steve Bannon; meanwhile, Biden’s handpicked U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia has criminally indicted more than 800 Americans for protesting Biden’s election on January 6. The paper, “The unintended consequences of COVID-19 vaccine policy: why mandates, passports and restrictions may cause more harm than good,” was authored by scientists from Johns Hopkins University, Oxford, Harvard, the University of Washington, the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, the University of Toronto, and Dalhousie University in Halifax, and published in the peer-reviewed BMJ Global Health. The authors focus on the “counterproductive and harmful” outcomes of the vaccine mandates based on the analysis of four domains: “(1) behavioural psychology, (2) politics and law, (3) socioeconomics, and (4) the integrity of science and public health.” Calling the vaccine mandates “the most powerful interventions in public health,” the scientists note, . . . […] “When mandate rules are perceived to lack a strong scientific basis, the likelihood for public scrutiny and long-term damage to trust in scientific institutions and regulatory bodies is much higher,” notes the paper. Michigan GOP gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon vowed over the weekend that if elected she would sign a bill establishing criminal penalties for adults who “involve children in drag shows.” Dixon, a former conservative pundit and host on the Real America’s Voice livestream network, posted to her Twitter account in response to a tweet from journalist Andy Ngo, who had shared images from a drag event for children at a Dallas bar titled “Drag the Kids to Pride.” This past weekend was the first in LGBTQI+ Pride Month. […] Several days ago, a decision by the Michigan Supreme Court denied the requests of several Republican candidates for governor to have their respective campaigns reinstated for the August primary. The decision knocked former Detroit police Chief Jams Craig, self-funding businessman Perry Johnson and Michael Markey off the ballot. Each candidate’s campaign had been found to have submitted forged signatures when filing to appear on the primary ballot. Craig and Johnson were the race’s two frontrunners. Last Friday the Biden administration raised the mandatory amount of biofuel, specifically ethanol, that must be blended within the U.S. gasoline supply. The previous amount of 10% was raised to 15% by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This is likely to lead to two sets of bigger issues, less food and higher gas prices. First issue. – The Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) is a government mandate, passed in 2005 and expanded in 2007, that requires growing volumes of biofuels to be blended into U.S. transportation fuels like gasoline and diesel every year. Approximately 40 percent of corn grown in the U.S. is used for ethanol. Raising the amount of ethanol required in gasoline will result in the need for more biofuel (corn). With farming costs and outputs already under pressure this could be problematic. […] Second issue – The EPA enforces the biofuel standard by requiring refineries to . . . […] Third Issue – “Ethanol is a valuable source of octane in finished gasoline, but it is chemically different than petroleum gasoline and cannot be used in concentrations above 10 percent in small engines — like outboard boat motors, motorcycles, lawnmowers, generators or chain saws — or in any cars made before 2001. Overnight, gas prices spiked another six cents nationwide, according to AAA. American motorists are paying on average $4.82 a gallon as of Saturday. A week ago, the average was $4.60, but prices have only risen every day since then. Motorists in nine states – Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Illinois, Michigan, Nevada, Oregon and Washington – are now paying more than $5 a gallon.

Just when you thought climate-change fanatics had reached peak insanity, word comes that none other than the heir to the British throne is backing a plan that would have cows wear special face masks to combat methane emitted by rumination. A British startup company, Zelp, which designed the bovine mask, was recently awarded the Terra Carta Design Lab award, founded in part by the Prince of Wales along with designer Jony Ive. […] The proposed bovine mask weighs approximately 100 grams (approximately 3.5 oz), and contains solar powered fans intended to redirect methane emissions from cows chewing their cud into a chamber which chemically converts the methane into carbon dioxide and water vapor. The inventors believe that the masks should filter about 30 percent of the ruminate methane produced by cows, and hope to reach 60 percent in future designs. […] Meanwhile, many climate scientists — even climate-fanatic scientists — have dismissed the notion that a trace gas such as methane has much, if any, effect on global warming. Some climate modelers have even omitted it from their models. Seventy churches in Georgia split from the United Methodist Church (UMC) last week largely over LGBTQ issues, marking the latest in a growing divide within the third-largest Protestant denomination in the United States. The North Georgia Conference voted last Thursday to allow the churches, most of which were in rural areas, to disaffiliate from the UMC. The process for disaffiliation was laid out by the 2019 General Conference of The United Methodist Church through 2023, according to the North Georgia United Methodist Church Conference website.
