The case to watch in the battles yet to come. Lurking in the background, unnoticed by the media, is the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), first envisioned by Sen. Elizabeth Warren. In 2011, President Obama tasked Warren to oversee the project, doubtless part of his fundamental transformation of America. With 1600 employees, the new federal agency was based on the premise that Americans were unable to look out for themselves without help from the federal government. The CFPB is funded by the Federal Reserve, not Congress. The director gets a five-year term of office, protected from removal by the president except for inefficiency, neglect of duty, or malfeasance. According to appeal court judge Brett Kavanaugh in 2016, “the concentration of massive, unchecked power in a single director marks a dramatic departure from settled historical practice and makes the CFPB unique among independent agencies.” According to Kavanaugh, the CFBP boss “is the single most powerful official in the entire United States Government, and “that is not an overstatement.” In effect, the CFPB director was the “President of Consumer Finance.” This powerful agency is being challenged in Consumer Financial Protection Board v. Schow: An NYC Bodega Worker Defended Himself During An Attack. Now He Faces Murder Charges.

“It was either him or the guy at the moment,” Alba’s daughter Yulissa told the New York Post last week, insisting her father was simply defending himself. “He’s never hurt anybody. He’s never had an altercation where he had to defend himself. This is the first time for him.” […] The Post reported that Alba’s defense attorney told the outlet Simon’s girlfriend allegedly stabbed the bodega clerk with a knife during the attack, but she has not been charged with any crimes. The Post reported on Friday that Alba’s stab wounds may be infected, because he only had hot water to clean them with while he was in jail last week, according to the founder of the Bodega and Small Business Group. The Post further reported that Alba had been stabbed four times during the attack in the bodega. Controversial Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has charged Alba with second-degree murder, and was behind bars at Rikers Island until Thursday, when a judge drastically reduced his bail. Bragg had initially requested $500,000 bail for Alba, a father of three who immigrated to the U.S. from the Dominican Republic more than 30 years ago and became a U.S. citizen 14 years ago. That initial request was reduced to $250,000, which Alba’s family still couldn’t afford. he FDA’s authorization of the experimental COVID injections in babies and toddlers is starting to see serious pushback from health freedom organizations and the media, amid early safety signals that show the jabs are risky and inappropriate for young children. That matters because the drop boxes, which were funded by one of Mark Zuckerberg’s election meddling pet projects, collected absentee votes in five of the swing state’s biggest cities for a political race that was decided by only about 20,000 votes. A Wisconsin court ruled Thursday that a transgender sex offender could not legally get a name change because it is illegal for sex offenders to change their names. In a 4-3 decision, the Wisconsin Supreme Court said that Ella, a 22-year-old 6’5’’ biological man who identifies as a woman, could not get a name change due to Ella’s status on the state’s sex offender registry. The sex offender was only referred to as “Ella” in court documents. The original legal name was not available because the incident involved juveniles. Court documents showed that a 15-year-old Ella was convicted of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old autistic boy who was blind in one eye. […] Ella’s lawyers claimed that the name change denial constituted “cruel and unusual punishment” . . .

Steve Bannon — who defied a congressional subpoena and is set to go to trial on criminal contempt charges — told the House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, insurrection on Saturday that he is now willing to testify, ideally at a public hearing, according to a letter obtained by CNN. […] Bannon’s team provided Trump’s new letter to the January 6 committee overnight, along with a letter from Bannon lawyer Bob Costello. “While Mr. Bannon has been steadfast in his convictions, circumstances have now changed,” Costello wrote. “Mr. Bannon is willing to, and indeed prefers, to testify at your public hearing.” […] Lofgren, however, said that public testimony from Bannon was unlikely, noting that the committee typically does depositions. “This goes on for hour after hour after hour. […] On Jan. 4, 2021, an account under the name @JohnHereToHelp posted on Twitter that Antifa and BLM agitators were being bussed from Baltimore to Washington to cause trouble at the Capitol on the day of Trump’s speech at the Ellipse. “Pantifa/BLM, Balt./DC branches, are already bussing people in to disturb Jan. 6,” the post read. “Orders [were] given to dress like ‘MAGA,’ blend in [and] cause trouble, especially around cameras. At night, arson has been ordered. All to be blamed on Trump supporters attending. Please be careful.” The post caught the attention of an assistant commander in the Intelligence and Counterterrorism Branch of the United States Park Police, who forwarded it to officials at the U.S. Capitol Police, the D.C. Mueller: Fed report finds 75% of $800 billion Paycheck Protection Program didn’t reach employees

Taxpayers paid $4 for every $1 in wages and benefits received by workers in jobs saved by the federal government’s pandemic Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), according to a new study by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. The Fed study also found PPP didn’t support jobs at risk of disappearing, and money flowed disproportionately to wealthier households. “The PPP was a very large and very timely fiscal-policy intervention, saving about 3 million jobs at its peak in the second quarter of 2020 and distributing $800 billion well within two years of the onset of the COVID-19 crisis,” authors William Emmons and Drew Dahl concluded in their study, “Was the Paycheck Protection Program Effective?” “But it was poorly targeted, as almost three-quarters of its benefits went to unintended recipients, including . . . […] Small business owners spent $3 out of every $4 in PPP to pay suppliers and meet other expenses, according to the Fed report. The research found that 72% of PPP funds went to households with incomes in the top 20% of the national distribution. Comparatively, 20% to 25% of the federal government’s unemployment insurance went to households in the top 20%. Approximately 10% to 15% of stimulus checks – up to $1,200 per adult and $500 per child – went to households in the top 20%.

Schmad: Biden Admin Drops $1.5 Million on ‘Transgender Programming’ for Inmates

The Justice Department disbursed the funds for a consulting firm to develop a program to help transgender inmates “manage identity concerns during incarceration” and advocate for their “sexual health and safety,” according to a government summary of the contract. The contract also asks the firm to develop a program to help transgender inmates access hormone treatment after they are released. There are only about 1,200 transgender individuals serving sentences in federal prisons, according to a 2021 Department of Justice estimate, meaning the Biden administration spent roughly $1,250 per transgender prisoner. That is more than the $1,200 checks Americans received during the first round of COVID-19 stimulus payments.
