Daily News Roundup
NOTABLE QUOTES
Michael Anton contributor to Compact: The people who really run the United States of America have made it clear that they can’t, and won’t, if they can help it, allow Donald Trump to be president again. In fact, they made this clear in 2020, in a series of public statements. Simply for quoting their words in an essay for The American Mind, I was mercilessly mocked and attacked. But they were quite clear. Trump won’t be president at noon, Jan. 20, 2021, even if we have to use the military to drag him out of there.
John Daniel Davidson contributor to The Federalist: The same climate policies that are set to destroy private agriculture in the Netherlands are eventually coming to America.
Ken Masugi contributor to American Greatness: Ever since its major blunder in Dred Scott, the Court has erred in its interpretation of the Constitution, overcorrecting or just plain misinterpreting constitutional doctrine or the Civil War amendments themselves. It has continued its folly of misrepresenting and ignoring the Declaration of Independence, the foundation of political legitimacy and republican government. Of the three branches of government, the Court has probably been the worst offender in terms of what the founders sought from their roles in republican government.
Herb Scribner reporter at Newsdesk and contributor to Axios: “We’re seeing governments become more aggressive in how they try to use legal tactics to unmask the people using our service, collect information about account owners and also using legal demands as a way to try and silence people,” Yoel Roth, the head of Twitter’s safety and integrity, said Thursday, per AP.
Tristan Justice contributor to The Federalist: The words “traitor” and “hypocrite” were common descriptors reiterated by Wyoming voters throughout the festival to characterize their sole representative and her lead role on the Select Committee.
Marc Morano founder Climate Depot: “Manchin caved to utter climate nitwittery that has real consequences for the U.S. economy currently being starved of energy by a wacko ideology that is dominant within the Democratic Party. This is a bad day on Capitol Hill for America. More spending, more debt, more nonsensical scientific claims about how a pork barrel federal spending bill will somehow alter the geologic history of the Earth. Sen. Manchin held strong against the climate agenda — until he didn’t. Does Manchin’s support for this climate bill mean the Earth will not have a geologic era called the Manchin-cene?!”
David Horowitz & John Perazzo contributors to Frontpage Magazine: With the 2022 midterm elections less than four months away, a New York Times/Siena College poll revealed that just 1 percent of registered voters viewed climate change as a “top priority,” let alone the most important issue facing the nation. The poll placed climate change far behind concerns about inflation, the economy, record crime rates, and the humanitarian crisis on America’s southern border. Even among voters younger than 30 — the demographic that is typically most energized by debates about environmental policy — the corresponding figure was a mere 3 percent. The same poll showed that public concern about climate change has actually declined significantly from the already-low levels of concern documented by previous surveys.
Marc Morano founder Climate Depot in a n interview with Fox News host Tucker Carlson: “They believe that us, the unwashed masses, if left to our own devices, will create inequity, racism, environmental destruction, [and] the climate crisis. They literally want to regulate not just our farming but every aspect of our lives, and that is really what the World Economic Forum and the United Nations is after here, is controlling humans.”
Kurt Schlichter contributor to TownHall: I’m not a scientist. But I am a lawyer. My job is to dig out the truth through cross-examination. And it seems very telling that the climate change hoaxers are desperate to avoid any examination of their ridiculous assertions at all.
Dan Gelertner contributor to American Greatness: I just want to ask all the doctors who injected their patients and promised total safety—when they knew they had no right to make such a promise—what are you going to do now? What if it gradually becomes clear that you have harmed and damaged hundreds or thousands of people, perhaps permanently?

Patterson: Trump threatens CNN with lawsuit over ‘defamatory statements’ about 2020 election
Former President Donald Trump is threatening to sue CNN over what he called “defamatory statements” about his repeated insistence that massive election fraud was responsible for his defeat in the 2020 presidential election – a claim rejected in the courts and by his own Department of Justice.
“I have notified CNN of my intent to file a lawsuit over their repeated defamatory statements against me,” Trump said in a statement released by his Save America PAC on Wednesday. “I will also be commencing actions against other media outlets who have defamed me and defrauded the public regarding the overwhelming evidence of fraud throughout the 2020 Election,” the 45th president added. “I will never stop fighting for the truth and for the future of our Country!” The 282-page notice dated July 21 accuses the cable news giant of publishing “false statements” about Trump in “numerous articles and televised transmissions.”

Queen: Georgia District Attorney Investigating Trump Runs Into a Snag
It’s never been terribly clear why Willis is doing this. Is she ambitious and using the investigation to make a name for herself? Is she using it as a springboard for some other employment or higher office? Or is she a true believer and thinks she can find a smoking gun to pin on the former president? It seems like a major waste of taxpayer money. […] State Sen. Burt Jones (R-25th district) is running for lieutenant governor, and Willis wanted to subpoena him to ask about his role as part of an alternate slate of electors who would have chosen Trump as Georgia’s presidential election winner. The attempt to paint Jones as an insurrectionist is painfully obvious; one of the first sentences on his Wikipedia entry reads, “He was involved with the attempts to overturn the 2020 United States presidential election.” There’s an issue: Willis has actively campaigned for Jones’ Democratic competitor, Charlie Bailey, a former Fulton County senior assistant district attorney who lost the race for lieutenant governor in 2018.
Anton: They Can’t Let Him Back In
Take some time to listen to the mainstream media. It doesn’t have to be long; five minutes should do. Then spend another five or so reading the statements of prominent politicians other than Trump. To round it out, sacrifice another five on leading intellectuals. It should become abundantly clear: They all have said A and so must say—and do—B. And B is that Trump absolutely must not be allowed to take office on Jan. 20, 2025. Why? They say Jan. 6. But their determination began much earlier. […] Love him or hate him, during Trump’s presidency, the economy was strong, markets were up, inflation was under control, gas prices were low, illegal border crossings were down, crime was lower, trade deals were renegotiated, ISIS was defeated, NATO allies were stepping up, and China was stepping back (a little). Deny all that if you want to. The point here is that something like 100 million Americans believe it, strongly, and are bewildered and angered by elite hatred for the man they think delivered it. […] Anti-Trump hysteria is in the final analysis not about Trump. The regime can’t allow Trump to be president not because of who he is (although that grates), but because of who his followers are. That class—Angelo Codevilla’s “country class”—must not be allowed representation by candidates who might implement their preferences, which also, and above all, must not be allowed. The rubes have no legitimate standing to affect the outcome of any political process, because of who they are, but mostly because of what they want.

LIZ’S JANUARY 6 COMMITTEE
Justice: A ‘Farce’: Here’s What Wyoming Voters Really Think Of Liz Cheney And Her Sham J6 Committee
CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Two days after the Associated Press wrote off Rep. Liz Cheney as “nowhere” to be found at Cheyenne’s midsummer cowboy festival, the lone congresswoman from Wyoming flipped pancakes for a brief appearance before returning to work on the Jan. 6 Committee.
The pancake breakfast held on every other day of the festivities has been a staple of Cheyenne’s Frontier Days celebration since 1986 when the Kiwanis Club adopted the tradition after an historic flood the year prior. For more than three decades after, volunteers with the Kiwanis Club often joined by members of the Boy Scouts and the Air Force have served thousands of pancakes within a short span of two hours. With its roots in the Cold War-era preparatory drills in the case of a sudden disaster disrupting food supply, the annual spectacle leaves little time for politicians who participate to mingle with their voters. For Cheney, the breakfast offered the perfect opportunity to show face without spending time with constituents left angry by the rarity of their sole congresswoman’s home state presence and her politically charged work as vice chair of the Jan. 6 Committee.

A THIRD PARTY?
Keating: Yang Gang 2.0: Former GOP Officials Join Up With Dems To Form New Party
Andrew Yang announced a merger between his Forward Party and two political organizations led by former officials from across the political spectrum late Wednesday in the hopes of creating a viable national alternative to the Republican and Democratic parties. Yang’s Forward Party has advocated for centrist and nonpartisan positions like ranked-choice voting, nonpartisan primaries and independent redistricting commissions, according to the party’s website. The Forward Party is now absorbing the Renew America Movement (RAM) and Serve America Movement (SAM), which Yang notes in a press release will immediately make it the biggest third party in the country by staff and resources. RAM was founded in 2021 by former officials from every Republican administration dating back to Reagan, while SAM includes Democrats, Republicans and independents, Reuters reported. Alongside Yang, the new Forward Party will be co-chaired by Christine Todd Whitman, a former Republican governor of New Jersey, according to Reuters.

U.S. SUPREME COURT
Bialosky: Mr. Roberts, Where Are You?
Chief Justice John Roberts has expressed that he feels compelled to protect the image of the Supreme Court since he was sworn in as the leader. That is why we have been told he conceived of the Obamacare Individual Mandate as being a tax. That is after the President and the supporters of Obamacare stated repeatedly it was not a tax, thus saving Obamacare in the ruling on National Federation of Independent Business et al vs. Sebelius. Why at this critical juncture is he not vociferously defending the court? Let us begin by defining the fact that I am wholly in favor of the divide we currently have in this country between what has been characterized as “Red” and “Blue” states. The states are designed as incubators of public policy. In a society where we have significant choices, people make decisions about which states have not only the best climate and best jobs for them but the best public policy that aligns with their views. […] The Supreme Court at the end of its term made some major rulings that affected people’s lives. The essence of those rulings was stating more boldly and strongly than they have recently that they are not going to be making laws. […] The Justices are doing exactly what their mission is. This is although their predecessors often strayed by taking the law into their own hands. That is largely coming to a halt. Some people are upset, having thought they ran the country by having Justices do their work for them. Now they must do their own work. […] So where is John Roberts laying this out and telling the other branches pointing fingers at the Court to do their job? He needs to give a forceful speech . . .

Masugi: The Supreme Court Restores Religious Liberty
The Court’s religion cases concern more than the activities of religious people; they relate to speech in general, to Americans’ ability to express their profoundest sentiments and thoughts. The past consequential year at the Supreme Court marked a decisive turn toward the restoration of religious liberty and, thereby, liberty in general. Mere collateral damage was the simultaneous nullification and vindication of my 2019 “casebook” on religious liberty. I rejoice in both consequences, which follow from the Court’s June 27 decision in Kennedy v. Bremerton School District. The Court’s opinion in the 6-3 decision was written by Justice Neil Gorsuch, President Trump’s first appointee, and relied on both the free exercise and the free speech clauses of the First Amendment: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech . . .”
It may surprise some that the conduct protected by the decision should have ever been questioned. […] Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s dissent has a radically different view of the facts of the case, with three photos of the coach surrounded by players and staff. “This case is about whether a public school must permit a school official to kneel, bow his head, and say a prayer at the center of a school event,” she wrote. “The Constitution does not authorize, let alone require, public schools to embrace this conduct.” Sotomayor seems scandalized by kneeling, praying, and even bowing. […] Ever since its major blunder in Dred Scott, the Court has erred in its interpretation of the Constitution, overcorrecting or just plain misinterpreting constitutional doctrine or the Civil War amendments themselves. It has continued its folly of misrepresenting and ignoring the Declaration of Independence, the foundation of political legitimacy and republican government. Of the three branches of government, the Court has probably been the worst offender in terms of what the founders sought from their roles in republican government.

Gelernter: Doctors Said the Vaccine Was Safe
Last week, German Euro Member of Parliament Christine Anderson called vaccine coercion “the worst crime ever committed on humanity.” This would conveniently replace the previous record in this category, held by the Germans. But she may turn out to be right. “There is so much coming to light,” she said. “All of the adverse side effects, numerous studies now available, on fetal disfigurements . . . genetic defects of babies born to women who got vaccinated . . .” Also last week, Fox News host Tucker Carlson drew attention to a recent study published in the Journal of Food and Toxicology claiming to have observed “diverse adverse consequences to human health” from the vaccine, potentially including “a causal link to neurodegenerative disease, myocarditis, immune thrombocytopenia, Bell’s palsy, liver disease, impaired adaptive immunity, impaired DNA damage response and tumorigenesis.” I happen to be unvaccinated. I also never caught COVID, but that may be purely a matter of chance. My being unvaccinated however has nothing to do with chance—it was an act of willpower in the face of pretty substantial pressure from a lot of directions. […] I think the problem was that a lot of doctors had already gotten vaccinated—and gotten their children vaccinated—without thinking logically about the potential consequences. Then, when potential consequences began to look bad, it was better to pretend that everything was going to be fine than to admit that they might have poisoned themselves—and their children.

Ziminsky: 3,816 Babies Died After Their Mothers Were Vaccinated – Report
Unborn Babies Are More At Risk From Covid Vaccines Than Any Other Vaccine. In a shocking new finding, according to VAERS – the U.S. Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System – 57% of all the vaccinations that resulted in a baby or fetus dying in the past 25 years occurred when pregnant women started receiving COVID-19 vaccines. The 3,816 babies who died after their mothers were vaccinated between December 2020 and March 2022 are likely only a fraction of the actual number of adverse events such as spontaneous abortions and fetal deaths.

AP & Alexander: ANOTHER booster? Biden plans to ‘roll out campaign to vaccinate Americans with FOURTH COVID jab in September’ – even though there’s not yet clear evidence they’re effective against BA.5 variant
The new boosters, made by Pfizer and Moderna, are designed to combat the Omicron-derived BA.5, but the data remains preliminary, and it’s unclear if the shots will prove effective at preventing transmission or serious illness. At present, the second boosters are only available for those aged over 50. The White House had pushed pharmaceutical companies to step up their work so the second booster could be made available to all. In late June, independent vaccine experts on the F.D.A. advisory committee agreed that the current coronavirus vaccines need updating, because the virus is now more able to skirt them. But both Pfizer and Moderna said they did not want to promise more doses at the start of fall.
MONKEY POX: IN TIME FOR 2020 MIDTERM ELECTIONS?
Carl: The Regime Wants You to Get Monkeypox
Rather than face disapproving comments from gay activists, public health experts, the media, and politicians preferred to let a deadly disease become an epidemic. The World Health Organization on Saturday declared the spread of monkeypox to be a global health emergency, one of just three in the world, along with COVID and polio. Once confined to fairly limited outbreaks in Africa, the latest monkeypox outbreak has reached more than 75 countries with more than 16,000 confirmed cases (the actual number is doubtless much higher). While just three deaths have been reported, that number is certain to climb and the lasting consequences of contracting it, including scarring and other serious side effects, can be quite significant. It is ironic that the WHO has declared monkeypox a global health emergency, because the global regime under which we labor (of which the WHO is certainly a part) wants you to get monkeypox.
They want your kids—who are at much higher risk than adults for serious complications—to get monkeypox. You may doubt it. You may question whether the government would want everyone to contract a painful, debilitating, and potentially deadly disease—and, indeed, have that disease become endemic around the world—rather than anger key constituent groups. Question all you like. But it is true.

Housman: It Took Months For The Media To State The Obvious About Monkeypox
More than two months after the ongoing global monkeypox outbreak began, corporate media outlets are finally addressing the fact that gay men are most at risk of contracting the virus. Government agencies and healthcare authorities have already been prioritizing men who have sex with men in their monkeypox response. The U.S. allocated its first batch of vaccines to that group, and the World Health Organization (WHO) is recommending that gay men limit their number of partners to reduce risk. But some journalists were first preoccupied with addressing the “stigma” that could come from openly discussing that gay men are accountable for the vast majority of monkeypox cases. […] Now, reality is setting in. […] the virus isn’t posing as much of a risk to the gay community as others have in the past, such as HIV/AIDS.

Bastone & Shapero: SF, NY declare health emergencies over monkeypox outbreak
Why it matters: The disease was declared a global emergency by the World Health Organization last week. Details: The city of San Francisco declared a “local public health emergency” with the aim of creating more “flexibility” to increase testing and vaccine distribution, and “allow us to use all the resources in our power to contain the outbreak,” California state Sen. Scott Wiener said in a statement. Wiener had called for the declaration. In New York state, health commissioner Mary Bassett declared the disease an “imminent threat to public health,” News 12 reports. The declaration is retroactive, starting on June 1.

Payne: As monkeypox cases climb, HHS announces 780,000 more vaccines to be released Friday
The new doses, which come amid widespread complaints over access to treatments and vaccines, bring the total number secured so far to 1.1 million — including more than 330,000 that have already shipped to states and cities. […] “Every American should pay attention on monkeypox,” HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra told reporters during a call Thursday. “It is contagious, it is painful and it can be dangerous.” But Becerra said he is not ready to declare a public health emergency, which would give the government a host of new authorities.

CHINA: AMERICA’S MORTAL ENEMY
Lawler: Xi warns Biden not to “play with fire” on Taiwan in 2-hour call
The latest: Beijing’s statement on the call warned in reference to Taiwan that “those who play with fire will perish by it.” A senior U.S. official briefing reporters on the call wouldn’t confirm whether Xi used that exact language, but confirmed the leaders discussed their “differences” over Taiwan.
Between the lines: It’s no surprise that Taiwan was top of the agenda, with Beijing threatening “serious consequences” if House Speaker Nancy Pelosi follows through on a planned visit to the self-governing island. […] Flashback: Biden has previously said three separate times that the U.S. has committed to defend Taiwan, despite the fact that the White House insists there has been no change to the “strategic ambiguity” policy, under which the U.S. takes no explicit position on that issue. Demastri: US Deploys Aircraft Carrier On China’s Doorstep As Taiwan Tensions Ramp Up
The USS Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group has been redeployed to the South China Sea following a visit to Singapore, resuming operations in the area despite recent tension between the US and China, Reuters reported Thursday. The strike group “is continuing normal, scheduled operations as part of her routine patrol in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific,” Commander Hayley Sims told Reuters. This return comes during an extended diplomatic battle between the United States and China regarding a potential visit by Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, according to Reuters.

Malkin: The Commie Colonization of America
From California to the New York island, from the Redwood Forest to the Gulf stream waters, the land that used to belong to Americans has been milked and bilked by investors and paid government agents of the People’s Republic of China. The National Association of Realtors reported last week that wealthy Chinese spent $6.1 billion on U.S. real estate in the past year. They’ve captured more than 10% of the market and have the highest average purchase price of all foreign real estate investors at over $1 million per home. California is their top pick, with more than a third of all homes located in the Golden State. (Or is it the Maoist Red State now?) In addition, China-tied entities own nearly 192,000 acres of American farmland and forest land — the bulk controlled by ShuangHui International after it acquired U.S. pork producer Smithfield Foods in 2013. […] As my insider source summed it up to me, “The Chinese government via its agents and developers probably have real ownership in more than half the EB-5 deals on the market and probably over 90% of the largest deals ($100 mil+) … I know this sounds radical, but China is essentially using our own playbook against us when we attempted to commercialize China with Western consumer goods, manufacturers and other American companies. They have now pushed back against our own presence in China and are pushing the other way to make sure they get their land grab in the U.S.”

BIDEN/HARRIS/OBAMA REGIME: TRANSFORMING FOREIGN POLICY
Yilek: Who is Viktor Bout, the Russian arms dealer known as the “Merchant of Death”?
Speculation is growing that the U.S. could release Viktor Bout, a convicted arms dealer nicknamed the “Merchant of Death,” to secure the freedom of women’s basketball star Brittney Griner and former U.S. Marine Paul Whelan, who are both imprisoned in Russia. […] “Viktor Bout, in my eyes, is one of the most dangerous men on the face of the Earth,” Michael Braun, the former chief of operations for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, told “60 Minutes” in 2010. […] During a March 2008 meeting in a Bangkok hotel conference room, Bout told the DEA informants posing as FARC officials that he could airdrop the arms in Colombia and acknowledged that the weapons could be used to kill Americans. After listening in on the meeting, Thai police and DEA agents burst into the room and arrested Bout. “The game is over,” Bout said.

BIDEN/HARRIS/OBAM REGIME: TRANSFORMING AMERICA
Horowitz & Perazzo: Rigging the War on Fossil Fuels
Notwithstanding the public’s consistent and overwhelming lack of concern about climate change as an urgent problem, the main concern of the Biden administration and the entire agenda of the Democrat Party has been, and continues to be, driven by this issue. In the words of President Joe Biden, “climate change poses an existential threat” – in fact, the chief existential threat to the United States – greater than terrorism, or Chinese expansionism, or the invasion by 2,400,000 unvetted illegal migrants annually across America’s broken southern border. So obsessive is the focus of Democrat leaders on the alleged “existential threat of climate change,” that a centerpiece of their policies to oppose it is a war on fossil fuels,. . . […] How is it possible that there should be such a disconnect between a democratic government and its constituents? How was such a radical consensus formed over such a controversial and contested issue – a consensus so strong and so anti-democratic that by 2022 it had resulted in the lowest approval ratings ever recorded for a sitting president and his political party? The answer can be found in the vast network of tax-exempt foundations and advocacy groups, unscrutinized and accountable to no one, that developed the analyses and policy recommendations that make up the “Green New Deal” in the decades prior to its official launch in 2019. […] What was this Shadow Party’s agenda?

Davidson: Pay Attention To The Dutch Farmer Protests Because America Is Next
Americans should start paying closer attention to the ongoing farmer protests in the Netherlands, which this week transformed long swaths of Dutch highways into what looked like a post-apocalyptic warzone: roadside fires raging out of control, manure and farming detritus heaped across highways, traffic stalled for miles, and massive protests across the country in support of the farmers. Why is the Netherlands, of all places, experiencing such unrest? Americans need to understand what’s happening over there because the ruinous climate policies that triggered these protests are precisely what President Joe Biden and the Democrats have in mind for the United States.
Flynn: Biden Opts to Redefine ‘Recession’ Rather Than Beat It
What everybody thought constituted a recession no longer does. The Bureau of Economic Analysis announced that gross domestic product (GDP) fell by 0.9 percent in the second quarter. This follows a 1.6 percent contraction in the first quarter. Recession, right? Well, heretofore two consecutive quarters of a shrinking economy meant recession. But our betters in the Biden administration gaslight enlighten us into seeing not the downturn before our eyes but an apparition of expanding economies past. Redefining recessions matters when they occur on the watch of Democrats at the levers of power who soon will face an angry electorate. Since the Biden administration could teach a masterclass in spin but would fail Economics 101, the White House expends considerable energy on solving this terrible problem, this terrible problem of recalcitrants stuck on the idea that an economy in recession, well, recedes.

Brown: Biden Refuses to Take Questions After Recession-Denying Remarks
In his remarks Thursday urging Congress to pass a revived version of his bloated Build Back Better bill, President Joe Biden again denied the existence of a recession just hours after his Commerce Department reported a second consecutive quarter of negative GDP growth — the literal definition of a recession.
“That doesn’t sound like a recession to me,” Biden declared after cherrypicking anecdotal evidence to try and present the image of a strong economy while omitting the serious economic woes his policies have inflicted on Americans. In typical fashion, Biden trotted out of his briefing without taking questions after his quixotic remarks. Whatever it sounds like to President Biden, the American people know exactly what’s going on and who’s to blame — nearly every poll done in recent weeks shows the president’s approval when it comes to handling the economy at all-time lows.

War Room: Dave Walsh: What’s Next For The Strategic Oil Reserves
Energy consultant Dave Walsh talks to host Steve Bannon about the backwards energy policies of Joe Biden and the Strategic Petroleum Reserves. “We’ve had an 8 percent decline in the use of gasoline already, year on year… That’s indicative of a pretty horrendous recession we’re into…. That’s driven down the price of gas by itself by about 22 percent in the last month or so… That’s a supply and demand issue… Nothing to do with the … reduction of the petroleum reserves… What he’s now talking about doing is beginning to use the petroleum reserve as a funnel to continue to ship it abroad… We’re going to go on a buying binge to refill it at a hundred bucks a barrel… without taking action to unleash production. That’s going to draw supply off the market” and raise prices for the rest of us.

Olohan: D.C. Mayor Calls For National Guard To Deal With Influx Of Illegal Migrants
D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) said Thursday that she has asked for the National Guard to be deployed to help handle the influx of illegal immigrants coming into the nation’s capital. Bowser described the situation as a “growing humanitarian crisis” of “people who are seeking asylum coming across the country to get to their final destinations,” saying that Washington, D.C. would “continue to pursue federal involvement.” [Note: However, it’s not a “growing humanitarian crisis” at the southern border?]
Saavedra: Biden Reverses Course, Will Close Gaps In Areas Of Border Wall As Crisis Hits D.C., Elections Loom
Democrat President Joe Biden’s administration will fill gaps in certain areas of former President Donald Trump’s border wall on the U.S. southern border as the illegal immigration crisis hits Washington, D.C., following a decision by Republican governors to transport thousands of illegal aliens to the nation’s capital. The Associated Press noted that Biden “pledged during his campaign to cease all future wall construction,” but that his administration has now agreed to some additional barriers.

CLIMATE EMERGENCY: IT’S POLITCAL
Schlichter: Cross-Examining the Climate Change Cultists
If you want to watch the pinkos fret, simply state the indisputable truth that what they call “climate change” is a massive hoax. Their fallback is inevitably that “science” – which they purport to love except when it demonstrates that there are only men and women and that you can’t change the sex you are born as – has decreed that because we peons insist on not living in caves like primitive tribesmen (okay, non-binary tribespeople) the Earth is going to cook. And, of course, the only solution is to do a whole bunch of things that leftists always wanted to do anyway. There’s no time to think, no time to reflect, and certainly no time to argue. Why, who are you to question the scientists? Well, I’m a lawyer. I question scientists for a living. […] I hire scientists in most every case I try. Sometimes I hire several in different disciplines. The other side does too, and here’s the weird thing – at trial, the other side’s scientists always, always, disagree with my scientists. Weird, huh? Because I was told that in the context of climate change the science is settled, that there is only one possible answer and that anything else is at least quackery and possibly felony denial. […] . . . when someone wants to prevent vigorous, even brutal cross-examination of his case, that’s a giveaway that it is weak. Looking at you, Liz Cheney, you malignant creep. […] . . . while we are at it, since “global warming” has been replaced by “climate change,” what, precisely, is the climate we need to maintain? What is the “correct” temperature? Is the goal to stop all climate change? Do we need to counteract natural climate change? You do agree that climate does change naturally, right? All those Americans with those SUVs and BBQs were thousands of years from coming into being when the ice age happened, so what caused that? And what caused the subsequent global warming after it? Are those same phenomena absent today? If not, how much are they causing now?
(H/T WS) Atasu, Duran, & Van Wassenhove: The Dark Side of Solar Power
Solar energy is a rapidly growing market, which should be good news for the environment. Unfortunately there’s a catch. The replacement rate of solar panels is faster than expected and given the current very high recycling costs, there’s a real danger that all used panels will go straight to landfill (along with equally hard-to-recycle wind turbines). Regulators and industry players need to start improving the economics and scale of recycling capabilities before the avalanche of solar panels hits. […] Economic incentives are rapidly aligning to encourage customers to trade their existing panels for newer, cheaper, more efficient models. In an industry where circularity solutions such as recycling remain woefully inadequate, the sheer volume of discarded panels will soon pose a risk of existentially damaging proportions. To be sure, this is not the story one gets from official industry and government sources. The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)’s official projections assert that “large amounts of annual waste are anticipated by the early 2030s” and could total 78 million tonnes by the year 2050. That’s a staggering amount, undoubtedly. But with so many years to prepare, it describes a billion-dollar opportunity for recapture of valuable materials rather than a dire threat. The threat is hidden by the fact that IRENA’s predictions are premised upon customers keeping their panels in place for the entirety of their 30-year life cycle. They do not account for the possibility of widespread early replacement. Our research does. […] The same problem is looming for other renewable-energy technologies. For example, barring a major increase in processing capability, experts expect that more than 720,000 tons worth of gargantuan wind-turbine blades will end up in U.S. landfills over the next 20 years. According to prevailing estimates, only five percent of electric-vehicle batteries are currently recycled — a lag that automakers are racing to rectify as sales figures for electric cars continue to rise as much as 40% year-on-year. The only essential difference between these green technologies and solar panels is that the latter doubles as a revenue-generating engine for the consumer. Two separate profit-seeking actors — panel producers and the end consumer — thus must be satisfied in order for adoption to occur at scale.

Neeley: The Government Can Make Climate Change Much Worse
Suppose everything you hear in the news about climate change is true. Suppose climate change is real, suppose it is primarily due to the burning of fossil fuels, and suppose that if this continues, the costs will be significant. Suppose all this is true. How should those who disagree with the likely massive government response that could follow actually challenge it? According to many on the left, accepting the above would mean game over for a wide range of liberties. But buying into this assumption is a mistake. When leftists claim that only a bigger government can deliver affordable health care or quality education, the response from conservatives and libertarians is not to deny that illness or ignorance exists. Instead, those who love liberty argue that more government is not the best way to achieve these goals, and in fact have developed their own set of conservative policy responses — such as high-deductible savings accounts and school vouchers — in place of government-based solutions. The same approach can and should be taken with respect to climate change. […] Limited government principles are perfectly capable of dealing with the most pressing problems of the day, including climate change.

BOOK REVIEW
Goska: A New Biography of a Lesser-Known Nazi Confounds the Reader
Who’s the most popular Nazi? I thought of asking this as a poll question on Facebook, but I’ve been in Facebook jail so many times I dared not risk it. I turned to Google. Adolf Hitler gets thirty-one million hits. Eva Braun, two and a half million. Joseph Goebbels, two and a quarter million. Heinrich Himmler, almost two million. Albert Speer, a million and a half. Hitler’s dog Blondi, 638 thousand. Reinhard Heydrich is just slightly more represented in my Google search than Hitler’s dog. Heydrich racks up 787 thousand hits. The numbers change day by day, but the proportions remain about the same. Heydrich’s relatively low profile astounds me, given the immense evil this – entity – I can barely stand to call him a “man” – wreaked upon the world. The Hangman and His Wife: The Life and Death of Reinhard Heydrich, is a May, 2022 book published by Knopf. The book is 656 pages long, with 570 pages of narrative followed by notes and an index. There are 110 black-and-white photographs. Author Nancy Dougherty knew Lina Heydrich, Reinhard Heydrich’s widow, and interviewed her for the book, as well as other surviving Nazis, including Albert Speer. Dougherty is a gifted writer who can report horror in beautiful prose. I’d recommend this book to anyone curious about Nazism or simply about human evil. I grew up with parents whose close intimates were affected by Nazism. In addition to the incalculable damage the Nazis did to Poland and Czechoslovakia, close family members and friends of my parents were imprisoned and killed, including a Jewish boy who saved my mother’s life when, as a child, she almost drowned in the River Nitra. Like many children of such parents, I grew up with a sense that the world can be a scary and unjust place, and a drive to understand, and to resist, terror and injustice. […] Author Nancy Dougherty undertook to write a biography of Heydrich because she wanted to understand evil.

Harding: ‘Refused To Let Me Die’: Rapper Lil Wayne Mourns Death Of ‘Uncle Bob,’ A Police Officer Who Rescued Him From Botched Suicide Attempt
In 2016, Lil Wayne described on Fox Sports’ “Undisputed” how Hoobler picked him up off the ground and rushed him to the hospital after a botched suicide attempt. The rapper was 12 years old at the time. “That day that I shot myself, the police…came through there; they knocked the doors down; I was on the floor; they hopped over me, looking for the drugs,” Lil Wayne recalled. “It was a white police that ran up and stopped, and said, ‘What the f*** are ya’ll doing? Do you not see this baby on the floor?’” “He picked me up, brought me to the hospital himself. He was white,” the recording artist continued.
Michalitsianos: Parents file $25 MILLION racial discrimination lawsuit against Sesame Street theme park claiming four characters including Rosita ignored their daughter during parade because she’s black
The lawsuit alleges four employees dressed as Sesame Street characters ignored Quinton Burns, his daughter Kennedi Burns and other black guests during the meet-and-greet on June 18. ‘Just looking at her face, it makes me want to cry every time I see it,’ Quinton Burns said during a press conference Wednesday. The lawsuit comes after a viral video showing two other black girls from New York apparently being snubbed by Rosita during a parade at the park in Langhorne, outside Philadelphia. Sesame Place apologized in a statement for that incident and explained that the actor inside the Rosita suit simply couldn’t see their daughter due to the costume’s limited field of vison. The furor triggered more families to come forward with similar experiences. […] Black Caucus members are seeking a meeting with the theme park’s general manager Cathy Valeriano to ‘discuss the changes, plans of action, and training the park plans to implement,’ Fox News reporter Chad Pergram said on Saturday.

Coughlin: Iran’s Deepening Military Expansion Into Europe
The Iranian regime’s decision to give its backing to Russia’s military offensive against Ukraine… represents an alarming expansion in Iran’s military ambitions beyond the Middle East. Arguably Khamenei’s most revealing comment during the visit was his call for Iran and Russia to increase what he termed “reciprocal cooperation” between the two countries to counter the threat of Western sanctions. The concern now, say Western security officials, is that the commercial ties between the two countries will lead to closer military cooperation. Iran’s very public displays of support for Russia certainly undermine the long-standing assumption of American and European policymakers that the Iranian threat, allowing Iran unlimited nuclear weapons, relates only to the Middle East — and specifically against Israel.

Sundance: First Major German City Turns Off Hot Water and Public Building Electricity to Save Gas
Hanover, a city in the northwest of Germany, has become the first major metropolitan area to try and reduce the use of natural gas by removing hot water from public buildings. The move comes as natural gas supplies from Russia are reduced to 20% of capacity. Germany is attempting to fill up storage facilities of natural gas in order to survive the winter.
Sundance: To Lower Natural Gas Use World’s Largest Chemical Company Announces Making Less Ammonia, Fertilizer Production Will Shrink Further
The energy crisis in Germany is now a confluence of terrible events that will snowball well into next year. The world’s largest chemical company, BASF, has announced they will cut down the production of ammonia in order to use less natural gas. In the short term this will help Germany build up natural gas supplies to survive a cold winter with predicted rationing still planned. However, in the long term the shortage of ammonia means less fertilizer which will mean future shortages and increased costs for farmers; ultimately creating lower yields next year.
