He was subpoenaed to testify on Wednesday as part of the New York AG’s investigation into his family and the Trump Organization’s business practices. “[U]under the advice of my counsel and for all of the above reasons, I declined to answer the questions under the rights and privileges afforded to every citizen under the United States Constitution,” he said on Truth Social. In his statement, Trump outlined all of the ways that James has attacked him in recent years.

The Fifth Amendment states in relevant part that “No person… shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself….” The purpose of the Amendment is to prevent the government from persecuting people into confessing crimes, whether real or imaginary. In an era before the protections our Constitution provides, people were tortured to “confess”—that is, to be witnesses against themselves. It is the government’s responsibility, with its vast resources, to find evidence that overcomes every defendant’s presumption of innocence. Thanks to the Fifth, the government does not get to take a shortcut by forcing the defendant to “confess.” Of course, even with the Fifth, the government can still torture people to confess. Thus, you’ve heard the phrase “the process is the punishment.” In the case of General Michael Flynn, the government, with its unlimited resources, destroyed his reputation, bankrupted him, lied about the evidence it had, and then threatened to go after his son. This was a form of torture and Flynn responded with the equivalent of a confession by taking a plea bargain.

The NY AG, Federal Justice Department and other Democrats have been targeting Trump in search of a crime. The NY AG is accusing Trump of inflating his net worth and value of properties. If everyone who thought that they and their net worth and properties were worth more than they are were guilty of fraud, the Jails would be very crowded. If Trump committed fraud the banks would have destroyed him. Banks don’t just take the word of someone who comes in for a loan. They are required to get financial statements, tax returns, and appraisals before they make loans of all sizes, let alone the amounts the Trump Organization borrowed.

A prominent voter-roll management system used by 31 states and the District of Columbia has politically compromised ties, according to a new report by independent research group Verity Vote. The Electronic Registration Information Center, or ERIC, was sold to states as a quick and easy way to update their voter rolls. Started in 2012 by far-left activist David Becker and the left-leaning Pew Charitable Trusts, the program is ostensibly run by the member states themselves. But as public records show, Democratic operatives are working overtime under the cover of ERIC to accomplish their partisan goals and drive Democratic voter turnout. Becker’s left-wing ties have long concerned Republican state officials participating in ERIC. Before he started ERIC, Becker worked as a lobbyist for People for the American Way, a George Soros-funded advocacy group best known for the Right Wing Watch project, a website that catalogs and attacks conservative politicians and movements. Before that, though, he was a Justice Department attorney whom colleagues remember as a “hard-core leftist” who “couldn’t stand Conservatives.” […] How does ERIC work? […] While several member states have expressed concern over ERIC, only Louisiana has formally withdrawn. ERIC makes it difficult for states to leave, as it prohibits resignation 91 days before a federal general election. So what can states do? Christian Adams, president of the Public Interest Legal Foundation, recommends that states stop complying with ERIC’s membership requirement prohibiting states from sharing their voter roll maintenance data, as it conflicts with federal law. The Public Interest Legal Foundation also has four lawsuits against Alaska, Colorado, Louisiana, and D.C. focused on a provision in the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA), which requires that states make public all data related to their voter maintenance lists.

I say all this to establish that I am not some dyed-in-the-wool civil libertarian who has always had it in for federal law enforcement. I have spent most of my adult life trying to educate people about the serious national security threats this country faces. The United States has very real enemies, both foreign and domestic, and it requires defending. Nevertheless, the FBI must be abolished. The solution to the abuses we now endure is not just to subject the FBI to another fruitless inspector general investigation but to dismantle it completely. The bureau cannot be the focus of yet another congressional hearing. FBI Director Christopher Wray, like his predecessors, is more than happy to sit smirking while a handful of grandstanding congressmen and senators pound the table and yell on C-SPAN. FBI Director Christopher Wray gave remarks in Omaha, Nebraska today. He was questioned about reaction to the FBI raid on President Trump’s home and noted threats circulating online against federal agents and the Justice Department are “deplorable and dangerous.” “I’m always concerned about threats to law enforcement,” Wray said. “Violence against law enforcement is not the answer, no matter who you’re upset with.” Director Wray also noted that FBI agents should be “valued and cherished” for their willingness to “put their lives on the line” to protect the institutions of government. On other matters, Director Wray declined to answer questions about the nine-hour search conducted Monday by FBI agents of Trump’s Palm Beach, Florida home. I spent the afternoon reading the UN’s 2030 agenda, with its 17 goals and 169 targets. This is an agenda that the UN has been working towards building since 1992 – Frankly, it was terrifying. My take away thought was that once you strip the unicons and butterflies out of the text, this unilateral consensus document reads like an updated communist manifesto . This is particularly relevant because while the Agenda 2030 is a not a legally binding instrument, but the regional and international human rights Conventions and Covenants at the core of Agenda 2030 are, in fact, binding instruments of international law. So, for now – we can insist that our politicians fight against the more draconian aspects of agenda 2030. Now, at first glance -most of the 169 targets of Agenda 21 are rather “fuzzy.” but extremely naive objectives. They are the goals of a command economy government, not an organization for world peace! Frankly, they are the goals of a failed governmental model. A model that has been tried again and again. Definition: A command economy is a system in which a central government makes all economic decisions. Either the government or a collective owns the land and the means of production.

Tyler Syck’s criticism pits national conservatism against our reigning civil rights regime, while Mark Tooley challenges national conservatism for embracing a relationship between religious faith and nationalism outside of the American tradition. National conservatism is a work in progress. National conservatives have issued a Statement of Principles to explain their general disposition, and I signed it. Generally, national conservatives worry that the sovereignty of the nation is being worn away through universal, globalist powers imposing an inhuman, stultifying ideology. International bodies are part of this global imperium. So are multi-national corporations and other oligarchic entities, which are destroying popular government and the institutions necessary for virtuous, happy lives all around the globe. Everywhere, governments, bureaucracies, and corporations are demanding conformity to the reigning civil rights regime—and crushing opposition. This reigning civil rights regime sees all inequalities as signs of universal oppression, and its purveyors demand a remaking of the world by experts in the name of elusive, ever-changing notions of equity. The alternative to this global imperium must be named. Thus, national conservatism defends our civilized and civilizing commitments like the rule of law and free enterprise and the institutions that serve the permanent and aggregate interests of civil society like the family and sound science. Above the individual is the nation and above the nation is God, not a new world order. What would a national conservatism look like?

Although the Chinese military committed numerous violations to Taiwan’s territorial integrity in the days immediately following Pelosi’s visit, the Biden administration shows no sign of abandoning the policy of “strategic ambiguity” that has defined Washington’s approach to the Taiwan issue for decades. The origins of this policy date back to US President Richard Nixon’s infamous visit to China in 1972, which eventually led Washington officially recognising the communist regime in Beijing. By doing so the US abrogated the mutual defence pact it had signed with Taiwan in 1954.

An online job posting for special agents within the law enforcement branch of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is causing a stir on social media, as Congress prepares to pass a spending bill that would greatly expand the federal agency. A link to a job posting for “Criminal Investigation Special Agents” appeared to have been briefly deleted on Wednesday, following online criticism of the posting’s language, though it reappeared back online after a FOX Business inquiry to the agency. A “key requirement” for applicants is that they have to be “legally allowed to carry a firearm,” and “major duties” include “Carry a firearm and be willing to use deadly force, if necessary” and “Be willing and able to participate in arrests, execution of search warrants, and other dangerous assignments,” according to the job posting.

The same Democrats whose trillion-dollar spending spree unleashed the highest inflation in nearly 40 years will now attempt to persuade people the very solution to the problem they created is to spend billions more. Even the snake oil salesman is shocked by the plan. […] Then there is the scheme to double the size of the IRS by spending $80 billion to hire thousands of new agents. We know the reality. It wasn’t so long ago the White House implemented tracking bank accounts with $600 annual transactions through Venmo. They won’t be going after billionaires and big companies. They’ll be used to ramp up audits on hardworking, middle-class Americans. […] When you pull back the curtain, you see what this package really is: a scam. The Democrats have shown time and time again that they will use any crisis as a “tremendous opportunity to restructure things to fit [their] vision.” They’ve been outspoken about reengineering the economy to implement their socialist wish-list. […] JYNNEOS (also known as Imvamune or Imvanex) is licensed (or approved) by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the prevention of Monkeypox virus infection, and ACAM2000 is licensed (or approved) by FDA for use against Smallpox and made available for use against Monkeypox under an Expanded Access Investigational New Drug application. […] But it was NOT in the context of this outbreak, that the current smallpox vaccines were tested and licensed against monkeypox. Nope – it took 20 years after this outbreak for the FDA to get around to licensure of the small pox vaccines for monkeypox. These vaccines were licensed in 2019. What a strange coincidence – that this happened two years before the current outbreak! According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, there is not yet any data available on the effectiveness of either vaccine in the current outbreak of monkeypox. But there is older data available from animal studies, clinical trials and studies in Africa. Note: there have been no randomized clinical trials done, but lots of immunobridging type studies and an “in the field” trial by fire testing for post-exposure prophylaxis, or PEP of health care workers in Africa. Just like repurposed drugs and multi-drug, multi-stage treatments for COVID, there are studies that suggest efficacy. Which in this case, was plenty for the FDA to grant FULL licensure. […] Unpleasant truths about the Moneypox vaccine Dr. Meryl Nass has summarized key aspects of these products in her substack linked above.Very high rates of cardiac effects and HIV worsening compound the problem that there are no efficacy data from humans. Does it even work? 1) there is no evidence to support using this vaccine in pregnancy, lactation or children. There is no information on male (as well as female) fertility effects or carcinogenicity. 2) About 2% of recipients had a serious adverse event 3) . . .4) . . .5) . . . […] Most monkeypox cases resolve with only the use of over-the-counter medications for symptomatic care. However, more severe cases can be treated with an antiviral medication called Tecovirimat or TPOXX, which is available through the US stockpile. Although this medication is available, it is not directly approved for monkeypox.

Sibarium: American Bar Association Scraps Controversial Diversity Proposal After Blowback
The American Bar Association on Monday axed a proposal to require law schools to “diversify” their student bodies after more than a year of warnings from law professors that the plan would force schools to violate federal law. The proposal, first released in May 2021, would have required law schools to submit annual progress reports on minority enrollment to the American Bar Association. Law schools that failed to boost the enrollment of “underrepresented groups” would have been at risk of losing their accreditation. The proposal underwent three rounds of revisions before finally being withdrawn by the association’s house of delegates, which did not rule out revisiting the proposal at a later date. An early draft had warned that U.S. anti-discrimination laws were “not a justification” for “non-compliance” with the diversity standard, a line that drew criticism from many in the legal community, including from elite universities.

George Orwell’s prophetic novel 1984 has often been invoked for its ability to predict the increasingly arbitrary and tyrannical nature of our present society. But three years before the publication of 1984, another dystopian novel which was in some respects more prescient than Orwell’s appeared in English bookstores. Like 1984, only on a smaller scale, C.S. Lewis’s That Hideous Strength describes a descent into tyranny that bears an eerie resemblance to our current situation. However, Lewis foresaw a few things that weren’t on Orwell’s radar. When Orwell reviewed That Hideous Strength shortly after its publication in 1945, he warned that “we are within sight of a time when such [monstrous] dreams will be realizable.” But Orwell also criticized Lewis for bringing “supernatural elements” into the story because “they offend the average reader’s sense of probability.” But if there are supernatural forces at work in the world, wouldn’t one be remiss not to mention it?

I had profiled Matt Pottinger as the “Kissinger Kid”, primarily because his father, Stanley Pottinger, was the key man in coming up with “Deep Throat” in the Watergate Affair to take out Richard Nixon as President with Mark Felt of the FBI.
