Martin Luther King, Jr., original name Michael King, Jr., (born January 15, 1929, Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.—died April 4, 1968, Memphis, Tennessee), Baptist minister and social activist who led the civil rights movement in the United States from the mid-1950s until his death by assassination in 1968. His leadership was fundamental to that movement’s success in ending the legal segregation of African Americans in the South and other parts of the United States. King rose to national prominence as head of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, which promoted nonviolent tactics, such as the massive March on Washington (1963), to achieve civil rights. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964.

The Washington D.C. City Council voted in October to pass D.C. Act 24-640, District of Columbia Council’s Local Resident Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2022, which would allow illegal immigrants and legal non-citizens to vote in local elections. There are at least 50,000 noncitizens living in the District, according to The Washington Post. Comer’s resolution will address that issue. If it passes the House and Senate and the president signs it, it will prevent D.C. Act 24-640 from ever taking effect.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich claimed that the anti-McCarthy voters had “no moral right” to oppose McCarthy. Politico: Oops: The New Democrat Coalition issued a letter appearing to support Andre Carson as House Intelligence Committee ranking member — an early play for Adam Schiff’s job.

Carson has been positioning himself for the top slot since last year, asking now-Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) in a November letter to be the lead Democrat. “I hope you will see fit to return me to the Committee in a leadership role, where I can work to align our recent track record with your vision for our Democratic Caucus and to maintain our national security,” Carson wrote on Nov. 30. Why the top spot could open: McCarthy has vowed not to seat Schiff on the Intelligence Committee, teeing up a potential clash over the position. It would not require a full House vote to remove Schiff because the intelligence panel is technically a select committee, which gives the speaker the power to veto appointments.

Journalist Matt Taibbi on Thursday released part 14 of the “Twitter Files,” showing how congressional Democrats tried to discredit a report by then-California Rep. Devin Nunes regarding the federal government’s Trump-Russia investigation. Emails show how the lawmakers crafted and pushed a narrative claiming Russian bots were responsible for bolstering claims in the report by Nunes, who at the time was chairman of the House Intelligence Committee. […] Taibbi’s Twitter thread, which included over 30 separate posts in total, also went on to state “Twitter warned politicians and media the not only lacked evidence, but had evidence the accounts weren’t Russian – and were roundly ignored.” […] The politicians cited as having been involved in pushing the false narrative are Democrat Sens. Richard Blumenthal, of Connecticut, Dianne Feinstein, of California and Rep. Adam Schiff, also from California.

Sheriffs from Kankakee County, Boone County, Winnebago County and McHenry County posted messages on social media saying they will not comply with the portion of the law that requires residents to register their guns with the state, according to NBC Chicago. The recently passed law, HB 5471, will outlaw the sale, manufacture, possession and purchase of “assault-style” weapons, while also limiting magazine capacity to 10 rounds for long guns and 15 rounds for handguns. […] Democratic Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s office called the announcements “political grandstanding at its worst,” saying the sheriffs are violating their oath of office, according to NBC Chicago.

If the FBI began investigating on November 9th, and USAO Lausch began investigating on November 14th, then why was it Joe Biden lawyers informing Laush of additional classified documents found in Delaware on December 20th? Why did the FBI and Lausch not find them? Why was it . . . […] The timeline doesn’t make sense. What was the FBI and John Lausch doing for two months? Something is not adding up. Also, you don’t appoint a Special Counsel on the day it is announced. There had to be some discussion with Robert Hur in the lead up to the announcement today.

Within days, Democrat Sen. Dianne Feinstein and Rep. Adam Schiff, the ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee, issued a press release announcing they had sent a letter to Twitter and Facebook requesting the tech giants “immediately conduct an in-depth forensic examination of the reported actions by Russian bots and trolls surrounding the #ReleaseTheMemo online campaign and how users were exposed to this campaign as a result of Russian efforts.” To support their claim that the #ReleaseTheMemo campaign represented “Russian efforts,” Feinstein and Schiff cited the Alliance for Securing Democracy, or ASD, and its claim that the hashtag “gained the instant attention and assistance of social media accounts linked to Russian influence operations.”
