Yes, a Don/Ron brawl is inevitable. Politics is a fickle thing, particularly in today’s ever-churning news cycle. Before winning back people’s support and sympathy with his recent indictment, Donald Trump was upsetting everyone for his comments at a recent rally in Waco, Texas. The former president went off against potential rival Governor Ron DeSantis, characterizing him as a weak politician who owes his rise to prominence almost exclusively to Trump’s support: “I did rallies for Ron, massive rallies, and they were very successful. So we got him the nomination. We then got him the election.” Trump also claimed that DeSantis inherited a state that was already well governed: “Florida was tremendously successful under Rick Scott…. [And] whether you like him or not, Charlie Crist was very successful, he was a Republican at the time.” As multiple outlets have reported, this was met with awkward silence. Most conservatives, including those at Trump’s rally, actually like DeSantis. It was obviously uncomfortable to hear this kind of thing. So many conservative voices have expressed their disapproval of Trump’s tactics. They argue that his insults are petty, wrong, and demonstrative of insecurity. It doesn’t seem like this reasoning has changed with the indictment, as The Babylon Bee demonstrated with the (admittedly hilarious) headline, “Trump Uses His One Phone Call to Ring Up Ron DeSantis And Yell At Him.” If only Trump used his influence to unite the party against Biden and talk about issues close to Americans, he would look more presidential and pull in more support from independents. Yesterday, President Joe Biden declared that “it remains to be seen” whether Artificial Intelligence (AI) is “dangerous.” I would beg to differ. I have been writing about the threat of AI to free speech. Then recently I learned that ChatGPT falsely reported on a claim of sexual harassment that was never made against me on a trip that never occurred while I was on a faculty where I never taught. ChapGPT relied on a cited Post article that was never written and quotes a statement that was never made by the newspaper. When the Washington Post investigated the false story, it learned that another AI program “Microsoft’s Bing, which is powered by GPT-4, repeated the false claim about Turley.” It appears that I have now been adjudicated by an AI jury on something that never occurred.

Dr. Andy Hill was asked to evaluate several studies that showed Ivermectin as an effective treatment for COVID-19 for the World Health Organization (WHO) in late 2020. At the same time, U.K. doctor Dr. Tess Lawrie, and two U.S. doctors, Pierre Kory, M.D. and Paul Marik, M.D., were sharing with Hill data and hopeful anecdotal evidence substantiating the effectiveness of Ivermectin as a treatment for COVID-19. Hill had agreed to collaborate, but he instead preempted any further dialogue. “Before [they] could collaborate,” says Lawrie, “Hill published his paper as a preprint” in early 2021. His paper was later retracted.

The FBI used an undercover employee to inform its leaked analysis on domestic extremism among Catholic Americans, House Judiciary Committee Republican Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan revealed in a letter addressed to FBI Director Christopher Wray. The House Judiciary Committee issued a subpoena to Wray on Monday requesting records relating to its probe into the FBI’s “domestic violent extremism investigations against Catholic Americans,” . . . […] Documents produced by the FBI reportedly show it desired “to sensitize the congregation to the warning signs of radicalization and enlist their assistance to serve as suspicious activity tripwires,” according to the letter. Kelly: ‘Splintered’ Court Ruling Throws J6 Prosecution Into Chaos

A Massachusetts man on Friday was charged with a felony related to his participation in the protest at the Capitol on January 6, 2021. Mark Sahady already faced misdemeanors for his nonviolent and brief jaunt through the building that afternoon, but the Justice Department decided to add the common “obstruction of an official proceeding” charge to Sahady’s case on April 7. That same day, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia threw Sahady—and more than 300 January 6 defendants charged with the same obstruction felony—a potential lifeline. In what one judge described as a “splintered decision,” a three-judge panel narrowly reversed a lower court ruling that tossed the obstruction count against three Capitol protesters. D.C. District Court Judge Carl Nichols dismissed the charge last year largely based on the argument that the statute “requires that the defendant have taken some action with respect to a document, record, or other object in order to corruptly obstruct, impede or influence an official proceeding.” A fair reading of the law proves Nichols is correct. Passed in 2002 . . .

The Senate Judiciary Committee plans to hold a hearing about “the need to restore confidence in the Supreme Court’s ethical standards,” Sen. Dick Durbin, chair of the panel, wrote in a letter to Chief Justice John Roberts, following revelations in ProPublica last week that U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas accepted luxury vacations from a major GOP donor but didn’t disclose them. In his letter, Durbin also urged Roberts to “immediately open … an investigation and take all needed action to prevent further misconduct” on the court. “And if the Court does not resolve this issue on its own, the Committee will consider legislation to resolve it,” the letter says. [Note: You may recall that during his Supreme Court confirmation process in 1991, Clarence Thomas referred to the Democrat led attacks leveled at him as a “high-tech lynching.” Well, the “high-tech” lunching continues to this day.]

In January, some members of the House Freedom Caucus refused to vote for Kevin McCarthy as House speaker unless he promised concessions. They won. Classified US government documents posted on online message boards made their way into the world’s media late last week in what may be the largest national security breach in at least a decade. […] Beyond the revelations about the state of the 13-month-old war between Russia and Ukraine, the scandal has also revealed spying by the US on its allies and has almost certainly exposed American intelligence sources. Here are the biggest revelations from the leaked documents: Five photos of printed presentation slides and maps dated March 1 detailed timelines for the training and preparation of nine Ukrainian brigades ahead of an expected counterattack, as well as information about tanks, vehicles, and artillery, along with equipment supply trains. Glick: Israel is Holding the Line on Iran, Despite Biden

On Tuesday, Axios reported that in January, the Biden administration began negotiations with the Iranian regime about the possibility of reaching a partial agreement related to Iran’s nuclear weapons program. It revealed those efforts to Israel, Britain, France and Germany in February. The report revealed that President Joe Biden and his team have offered Tehran a deal that would see the U.S. remove some economic sanctions on Iran in exchange for the regime temporarily ceasing some of its nuclear activities. The U.S. and the U.N.’s International Atomic Energy Agency assess that Iran is on the brink of becoming a threshold nuclear state. In February, the IAEA said that Iran possessed sufficient quantities of uranium enriched to 60% purity to build a nuclear weapon if that uranium is further processed to 90%, weapons-grade level. Last month, the IAEA reported finding uranium enriched to 84% purity. Axios didn’t reveal the details of the current U.S. proposal. But in response to the Axios report, the Foundation for Defense of Democracies recalled that the administration made a proposal for such a deal to Iran last year. Under that proposal, . . . […] In short, to achieve its goal of realigning the U.S. towards Iran through appeasement, the U.S. is willing to risk a Ukrainian defeat by Russia. Then there is Saudi Arabia. Over the past several weeks, Saudi Arabia has accepted Chinese mediation of its dispute with Iran. According to a Saudi source with close ties to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, this deal is not, as the Biden administration insists, a mere continuation of efforts that the administration fostered through Oman. In mediating the deal, China seized the U.S.’s role as Saudi Arabia’s superpower protector against Iran. “We don’t hold Iran accountable,” the source explained. Under the deal, China agreed that if Iran attacks Saudi Arabia, “We call Beijing,” he said.

President Joe Biden’s point person on the crisis in the banking industry is in an awkward position. Lael Brainard arrived at the White House less than two months ago — after nearly a decade on the board of the Federal Reserve that included a stint as chair of the central bank’s financial stability committee.

The maker of the TikTok video “disowns” any transgender person who doesn’t agree that the trans community faces genocide threats. 2. March 28: Tennessee In another TikTok video, a woman blames Tennessee legislation to prohibit drag shows for minors and ban transgender procedures for children under 18 for the killing of the three children and three adults at The Covenant School in Nashville. She says: “I wonder if the parents of the victims of the Nashville shooting today would still have their children if these trans bills in Tennessee were never a thing.” The creator of the video implores parents to blame the state government for the loss of their children in the shooting. 3. Per the April 5th filing in Lake’s election integrity case, lead attorney Kurt Olsen reaffirms in the brief that there “was no record for delivery” to Runbeck of the “Election Day early ballots.” […] Perhaps not coincidentally, Governor Hobbs vetoed HB2322 on April 6th, a bill that codified “minimum standards” for the signature verification process—the same standards Hobbs wrote into the 2020 Elections Procedure Manual to ensure that only lawful votes are counted. The bill passed the House and Senate with bipartisan support. […] Specifically, the math surrounding the “unaccounted-for” ballots refers to evidence presented in Lake’s March 1st, 2023, appeal to the Arizona supreme court.
