President Joe Biden’s Office of Management and Budget released a statement backing new federal regulations for “stabilizing braces” for pistols. The White House also blasted a Republican Congressional effort to push back against the rule, making clear Biden would veto Republicans’ bill if needed. The fight over this issue kicked into high gear in January when the Department of Justice’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives issued a final rule to put pistols with “stabilizing braces” into the category of short-barreled rifles, thus subjecting them to heavier regulations. Those braces allow users to fire pistols with one hand, and were initially designed to help people like disabled veterans to continue using firearms.

The powers that be have said on any number of occasions that eight billion people is “too many” and that an optimal level would be less than a billion. Here’s an outlandish thought: . . .

One of the reasons it is so difficult to have a sensible conversation about the climate is because we tend only to talk about what the climate will do, not what humans will do. Sticking with the example of fires, fires are declining because human beings are intelligent and actively try to suppress fires. Humans have a wonderful ability to adapt to circumstances, and we should include that fact in the climate conversation. How many people die overall as a result of climate, i.e., because of floods, droughts, storms, wildfires, and extreme temperatures? In the 1920s, about 500,000 people died each year, on average, due to climate. Looking at the averages in subsequent decades—the number fluctuates quite a bit from year to year—there has been a dramatic decline. In the 2010s, the average number of people dying each year as a result of climate was 18,000, and in 2022, that number dropped to about 11,000. This downward trend doesn’t fit the alarmist narrative, so of course we never hear about it. Once we realize that human beings are quite smart in terms of their ability to adapt, we can begin to see why so many of the current climate policies are so ill-conceived. […] But there is another side of the story—the economic cost of climate policy. The policy cost of no climate policy is of course zero. But what would be the cost of reducing the temperature rise from 7.4 to 6.75 degrees Fahrenheit? Even assuming that China, India, and Africa all participate, a very big assumption, the realistic cost is about $20 trillion. To reduce it slightly more, to 5.3 degrees Fahrenheit, would cost five times that amount—about $100 trillion. And so on: with every degree reduction in temperature, the costs scale up very rapidly. In 2018, Nordhaus received the Nobel Prize in economics for his studies showing we should shoot for the temperature change that minimizes the sum of the cost of climate change and the cost of climate policy, which is 6.75 degrees Fahrenheit (see chart below). Unfortunately, most politicians are not heeding this advice, instead pushing policies that aim at lowering temperatures as much as possible.

National Geographic raises funds by flying deep-pocketed travelers around the world on its “specially outfitted” Boeing 757 jet, which features “comfortable VIP-style leather seating,” “plush, sleek interior design,” a private chef, and a “dedicated luggage handler.” The trips, most of which cost roughly $100,000, allow millionaires and billionaires to “fly in exceptional comfort” as they visit “far-flung destinations” and encounter “legendary wildlife”—including the same coral reefs National Geographic says in its pages are dying. Travelers on one of the 24-day “expeditions” fly nearly 30,000 miles. Planes, on average, produce 53.3 pounds of carbon dioxide per air mile, meaning the trip’s flights would emit more than 1.5 million pounds of carbon dioxide. The average American’s yearly carbon footprint is just 32,000 pounds, meaning the flights in just 24 days generate a carbon footprint equivalent to that of nearly 47 Americans in an entire year.

Smith: Federal prosecutor in Trump probe reprimanded in earlier case for secretly recording defense lawyer

Justice Department prosecutor who helped secure last week’s indictment of former President Donald Trump was publicly reprimanded by a judge in 2009 for “gross negligence” in connection with secretly taping a defense lawyer and an investigator, an agency source has confirmed to Just The News.

The prosecutor, Karen Gilbert, is now serving as a deputy to Special Counsel Jack Smith, who on Thursday issued the 37-count indictment of Trump. Last week, I came to the Senate Floor to give a speech about the Biden Justice Department and FBI playing games with the American people by hiding the FBI-generated 1023 document from Congress. Director Wray was going to be held in contempt for refusing to produce the 1023 that I told Chairman Comer about. Then, instead of contempt, the FBI committed to showing the 1023 and related documents to Congress. So, the FBI showed but didn’t provide possession of that 1023 to the House Oversight Committee last week. As the public knows that 1023 involves an alleged bribery scheme between then-Vice President Biden, Hunter Biden and a foreign national. The same allegations that Chairman Comer and I made public on May 3 of this year. And on the same day that the FBI provided a redacted version of the 1023 to the House Oversight Committee, the Justice Department announced that former President Trump had been indicted and charged with 37 crimes relating to his alleged mishandling of classified records.

Additionally, Stop Educator Sexual Abuse Misconduct & Exploitation (SESAME), a nonprofit that works to stop childhood sexual abuse by teachers and other school employees, discloses that in 2015, about 3.5 million 8^th-11^th grade students, or nearly 7% of those surveyed divulged that they had experienced “physical sexual contact from an adult” (most often a teacher or coach).

The initiative makes books and resources on transgenderism and sexual orientation available to children as young as 5, according to a GLSEN 2021 recorded online workshop on the initiative. […] Some examples of the books included in the Rainbow Library, according to the 2021 workshop, appear to be “When Aidan Became A Brother,” a picture book about a young girl who decides she is transgender, “I Am Jazz,” a children’s book about a boy who knew he was transgender when he was 2 years old, and “All Boys Aren’t Blue,” a memoir about the experience of a black queer boy growing up which describes graphic sexual encounters.

Companies appear to be finally coming to the conclusion that going woke could mean going broke – or at least see their share price fall to uncomfortable levels. An analysis of earnings calls has seen a sudden and rapid fall when it comes to firms mentioning the terms ‘diversity, equity and inclusion’, ‘green and social initiatives’ and ‘sustainability’ in quarterly calls to investors.There were close to 1,000 mentions of such causes in earnings calls until the start of Quarter 1 of 2022. By Quarter 2 of 2023, the space of 15 months, the number appears to have almost halved with 575 mentions of these woke terms.

There was a 31 percent drop in mentions of woke issues during earnings in the most recent quarter, compared to the same earnings period last year, according to The Wall Street Journal. In two of the most high-profile cases in recent months, both Target and Bud Light have borne the brunt of what it means to upset their loyal customer base – and ultimately their investors, as share the price plunges.

Turley: “God is Not the Author of Confusion”: Charges Dropped Against Protester Who Read Biblical Passages at Pride Event

The Berks County District Attorney’s Office has confirmed that it is dropping charges against Damon Atkins after the preacher was arrested citing the Bible in protest of an LGBTQ Pride event in Reading, Pennsylvania. The only reason that the charges were dropped is that a third party videotaped the scene and disproved the account of the arresting officer. Ironically, Atkins was reciting 1 Corinthians 14:33 that begins “For God is not the author of confusion.” That role appears to rest with the Reading police, which processed a wildly exaggerated account of the encounter. Atkins was arrested on June 6 for “disorderly conduct, engaged in fighting.” However, a video of Atkins’ encounter with the police officer disproved the officer’s statement, as acknowledged in a press release. For many, the case is likely reminiscent of the arrest of the woman for praying near an abortion clinic in Britain. Fortunately, this case was dropped.

The chief defense attorney in the corruption trial of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sought to portray opposition leader Yair Lapid as an unreliable witness during his cross-examination in the Jerusalem District Court on Monday. Lapid arrived in court for his first day of testimony as a witness to relate his experience when he served as finance minister in 2013 and was approached by both Netanyahu and Hollywood mogul Arnon Milchan about the possibility of lengthening the tax break given to returning Israelis who have lived abroad, from 10 years to 20. In court, the current opposition leader largely reiterated his earlier account: that he was approached twice by Netanyahu to discuss the issue, but told the prime minister it was not going to advance and then did not deal with it any further.
