Harsanyi: Americans Have Never Been Less Threatened By ‘Extreme’ Weather

“Extreme heat kills more people in the United States than any other weather hazard,” is the first claim in this Washington Post piece warning about the deadly summer heat — and it is almost certainly false. First off, the only reason “extreme” temperature kills more people than other weather hazards is that deaths from weather have plummeted over the century, even as doomsday climate warnings about heat, hurricanes, tornados, floods, and droughts have spiked. Extreme weather accounts for only about 0.1 death for every 100,000 people in the United States each year. The Post should be celebrating the fact that humans have never been less threatened by the climate. The Post warns that 30 million people in the U.S. may be “exposed” to dangerous heat “today.” That’s a lot of people, even considering nearly all of them live in the southernmost spots in the country and it’s the middle of the summer. The Post counts anyone exposed to heat over 90 degrees as being in some level of danger. Fortunately, most Americans enjoy the luxury and health benefits of air-conditioning, one of the great innovations of the past century. Nowhere in the piece, however, do the authors tell us exactly how many Americans have perished from the oppressive heat.

During a recent Senate hearing, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) asked Garland to describe what would happen if Weiss wanted to pursue charges against President Biden’s son outside of his Delaware jurisdiction, considering Garland hadn’t made him a Justice Department special counsel. “If it’s in another district, he would have to bring the case in another district,” Garland responded. “But as I said, I promise to ensure that he’s able to carry out his investigation and that he’d be able to run it. And if he needs to bring it in another jurisdiction, he will have full authority to do that.” According to a transcript released Thursday by the House Ways and Means Committee of an interview with an anonymous IRS whistleblower, a “contentious meeting” involving Weiss, IRS investigators and FBI agents took place in October 2022.

Greene’s resolution to expunge the impeachment points to a recently revealed FD-1023 that includes confidential human source information alleging that both Hunter and Joe Biden were involved in a bribery scheme in which a Ukrainian gas tycoon paid $5 million each to Hunter and another Biden in order to get a Ukrainian official investigating his company fired. “Resolved, That the December 18, 2019, impeachment of President Donald John Trump is expunged, as if such Articles had never passed the full House of Representatives, as the facts and circumstances upon which such Articles were based did not meet the burden of proving the commission of ‘high Crimes and Misdemeanors’, as set forth in section 4 of article II of the Constitution,” it reads. She now looks like a boy, sounds like a boy, has removed a lot of her girl parts and she regrets all of it. She says in the video that there was never any pushback against getting the hormone treatments and the surgeries needed to feel like a boy. And her mother clearly allowed her to do all of this to herself and even did a MTV feature to support her daughter switching to a boy.

Tyranny thrives in the absence of confrontation. It depends on a conspiracy of silence when good people become too afraid to speak its name. Do not fear directing an outstretched finger at the unjust machinery of the State. Those quick to denounce free speech as “treason” are often the most deserving of blame. We are in an uncomfortable stage in history during which a growing number of people have begun to accept difficult truths, and the response from people in power has been to crush those truths before they can be fully heard and appreciated. This has happened many times before. Censorship is not new, nor is political persecution. Oppressive State surveillance is not new, nor is use of the legal system to imprison political enemies. Being “canceled” is an instance of crippling tyranny — whether that “cancelation” involves black-clad men with billy clubs “disappearing” outspoken dissidents in the middle of the night or black-clad Antifa clubs destroying someone’s livelihood while under the implicit protection of the State.
