Bush appointee writing for the majority in a 2–1 ruling by a Ninth Circuit panel. […] Oregon doesn’t have a compelling interest in protecting people’s privacy in public places, the majority ruled. Even if it did, the law is not tailored narrowly enough because Oregon has other laws that cover privacy concerns, such as one allowing tort lawsuits by people who are recorded without consent. The law “burdens more protected speech than is necessary to achieve its stated interest,” the judge wrote.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) announced Wednesday that it is approving the construction and operations plan for Ocean Wind 1, a 1,100-megawatt project that will be located 15 miles off the New Jersey coast, power 380,000 homes and enter commercial operations in 2025. The project will be made up of 98 wind turbines spread across a 68,450-acre lease area. […] White House National Climate Advisor Ali Zaidi said the project, which was first proposed in 2019, is “Bidenomics in action” and not an accident. As part of its climate agenda, the Biden administration has aggressively moved forward with rapid offshore wind development across millions of acres of federal waters, primarily along the East Coast. Shortly after taking office, President Biden outlined goals to deploy 30 gigawatts of offshore wind energy by 2030, the most ambitious goal of its kind worldwide. In June, the House Ways and Means Committee published the transcripts of interviews with a pair of IRS whistleblowers detailing improper interference from the Justice Department surrounding the federal tax probe of the first family. According to the whistleblowers, federal prosecutors concealed critical documents from tax investigators while officials from the Justice Department sought to undermine IRS efforts altogether. On Wednesday, Republican House and Senate lawmakers led by Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley sent a letter to the Office of Special Counsel urging the agency to open a probe into retaliatory conduct against the IRS whistleblowers. “The Department of Justice (DOJ) and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) have reportedly engaged in unlawful whistleblower retaliation against veteran IRS employees,” lawmakers wrote. “Multiple news reports indicate that the whistleblower and investigative team were removed from the Hunter Biden investigation by the IRS at DOJ’s request as retaliation for making protected whistleblower disclosures to Congress.”

CDC gives guidance for trans people ‘chestfeeding’ kids, accused of failing to consider possible health risks

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s official website published advice for trans and non-binary individuals on seeking guidance on how to “chestfeed” their infants. In sections of the major health institute’s guidance on breastfeeding, it contained information for those who have had much of their breasts removed in gender-reassignment surgeries, or for biological men taking hormones to grow breasts, on how to feed their newborn children. However, several doctors criticized the guidance, not simply because CDC has appeared to guide biological men in how to breastfeed children, but because they claimed the CDC has failed to gauge the risks posed to children drinking milk produced by chemicals used in gender-reassignment medical operations. […] The outlet spoke to multiple doctors who criticized the CDC for not mentioning the health risks posed to infants “chest feeding” from biological men transitioning with female-mimicking hormones. Executive director of the conservative Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, Dr. Jane Orient told The Daily Mail, “The CDC has a responsibility to talk about the health risks, but they have been derelict in doing that.” She also claimed “we have no idea what the long-term effects on the child will be” if trans parents are using “all kinds of off-label hormones,” meaning drugs that are being used in a different purpose than for which they were intended.

A tourist traveling from the United Kingdom has been forced to apologize after he was caught carving his name — and his fiancée’s — into the wall of the Colosseum in Rome.

The tourist, identified by authorities as a 27-year-old Bulgarian-born fitness trainer named Ivan Dimitrov, has written a letter of apology to the Mayor of Rome — in which he claimed that he did not know the historical significance of the landmark. The letter, dated July 4, was also sent to the Rome prosecutor’s office and “the municipality of Rome.” […] An American tourist — who had just finished a tour of the ancient landmark himself — was the one who filmed Dimitrov’s escapade and brought it to the attention of Italian police.
