Take note that the most useful and thus the most prevalent firearms these days are semi-auto. This screed starts with our ever-so-kind and gentle BATFE (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) bringing down its iron fist on every FFL (Federal Firearms Licensees) in the country, shutting them down until all their records can be scanned and recorded into a national gun registry. If that takes too long and forces them out of business then that’s perfectly okay with the left. Understanding the platforms were overwhelmed, the government stepped in. They worked in tandem with Meta, Twitter, Google, etc., in a symbiotic relationship. The government just wanted to help, you see. So they set up a sprawling public/private conglomerate to act as these organizations’ “Trust and Safety” department. After all, they couldn’t handle it on their own, and the government wasn’t doing anything but alerting social media companies when an unsuspecting citizen stepped out of line and posted wrongthink. That is the line of garbage the government has force-fed to the media, congress, and the courts over the past year and some months as the Missouri v. Biden case has charged forward. They claimed it again as recently as last week as they filed their appeal to the temporary injunction Judge Terry Doughty slapped on them in the case. The injunction prohibits them from doing the things listed above. Things like a . . . Pabst: A Careful Look at the UNDP’s New iVerify Tool

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has quietly announced the rollout of an automated anti-disinformation tool, iVerify, this spring. The instrument, initially created to support election integrity, centers a multi-stakeholder approach spanning the public and private sectors to “provide national actors with a support package to enhance identification, monitoring and response capacity to threats to information integrity.” The UNDP demonstrates how iVerify works in a short video, where anyone can send articles to iVerify’s team of local “highly-trained” fact-checkers to determine if “an article is true or not.” The tool also uses machine learning to prevent duplicate article checks, and monitors social media for “toxic” content which can then be sent to “verification” teams of fact-checkers to evaluate, making it a tool with both automated- and human-facilitated elements. On its website, the UNDP makes a blunt case for iVerify as an instrument against “information pollution,” which they describe as an “overabundance” of harmful, useless or otherwise misleading information that blunts “citizens’ capacity to make informed decisions.” […] Ultimately, today’s manifestation of fact-checking efforts, such as UNDP’s semi-automated iVerify, have largely been led, funded, or otherwise co-opted by the power-elite. The resulting and toxic information environment, where mere accusations of mis- or disinformation can themselves bludgeon reputations and careers, undermines possibilities for meaningful debate on complex, critical topics, such as the international COVID response and the current war in Ukraine. iVerify’s power lies in its supranational infrastructure and ability to determine truth as an apparent authority source. Unfortunately, its manufactured ownership over the truth can easily be weaponized towards mass censorship of materials harmful to the elite’s bottom line. If it becomes a prominent aspect of the already treacherous information environment, UNDP’s iVerify only promises to worsen matters while further threatening the (remaining) sovereignty of nation states everywhere.

So far, the indefinite restriction has been publicly announced as applying “only” to the Air Force’s F-35A. But given the F-35 Joint Program Office’s history of hiding and “managing” bad news, it would not be at all surprising to find out that the same restrictions are in place for the Marines’ F-35B and the Navy’s F-35C, but have not yet been made public. That having this unpublicized policy in place could make sense was demonstrated in July 2021 when two F-35Bs flying out of their airbase in Japan were forced to execute emergency landings after they both suffered millions of dollars worth of lightning damage in the same storm.

The Senate Appropriations Committee said it was “concerned” that electric helicopter technology isn’t being tested and utilized by the Air Force, according to the committee’s report on the draft of the 2024 Department of Defense Appropriations bill issued Friday. The Air force has 90 days to release current research and development progress on electric vertical take-off and landing vehicles (eVTOLs), as well as a timeline for when the service plans to utilize the technology operationally, according to the committee report. eVTOLs, which mimic the vertical take-off and landing ability of helicopters, are powered by electric energy and produce zero emissions – but also have a much lower payload capacity and travel range, according to a report from Amprius Technologies.

U.S. foreign policy under President Biden has been defined by the combination of the failure to advance U.S. national interests and support for the progress of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). The administration continues to act as though the threat from the PRC is not an urgent or an existential one where every moment matters. As such, the PRC’s comprehensive national power has continued to grow, as does its global influence. This matters because no matter who is president in January 2025, the U.S. has lost precious time in its confrontation with China. U.S. foreign policy under Biden has suffered in four major areas. First, in Europe, the Biden administration’s continued support for the attritional war in Ukraine serves to drain U.S. defense resources with no end to the conflict in sight. The administration will likely make a push to end the war in 2024 due to the U.S. presidential election cycle. This will be true whether Biden is the candidate for reelection or has been replaced by another. This continues while simmering unrest in Kosovo threatens to destabilize the western Balkans with inattention from the administration. Moreover, our British allies have been poorly treated by this administration due to the president’s apparent hostility stemming from his Irish ancestry. However, the greatest failure of the Biden administration in Europe is that it has not pressed Europe to decouple its economy from China. While there is clear evidence that Europe is looking to the U.S. for leadership on this matter, unfortunately, the U.S. has abandoned the Trump administration’s effort to decouple its economy from the PRC. Narco-submarines’ have become so lucrative, cartels will reportedly destroy them after a trip to avoid detection. U.S. Customs and Border Protection last month stopped a semi-submersible off the southwest Mexico coast in which roughly four tons of cocaine was seized. It was a big bust but certainly not the first time the agency has thwarted an alleged plot to bring drugs into the U.S. with such a watercraft, as smugglers become increasing sophisticated with their use of drones and so-called “nacro-subs.” The 8,200-plus pounds of narcotics seized last month by the agency’s Air and Marine Operations was worth over $108 million and what CBP called “illicit proceeds from going to transnational criminal organizations.” Such waterborne operations appear to have been going on for at least the past five years.

Human Trafficking: An American Tradition of Silence

In the hushed corners of our society, a sinister industry flourishes, largely hidden and unspoken of. It’s an issue so shocking and perplexing that people tend to ignore it when brought to light. This is the pandemic of sex trafficking and child sex trafficking. One might presume that in a civilized, developed nation like the United States, such a crime would be promptly detected, prosecuted, and eradicated. Yet, this is far from the truth. Sex trafficking thrives within our borders, and its true extent remains largely unknown. Prosecutors seldom uncover the crimes of traffickers, and sometimes, alarmingly, they choose to overlook them. […] In the United States, nearly 17,000 people are trafficked annually. And that’s all we know of. Estimates from the Department of Health and Human Services suggest this number could range from 240,000 to 325,000. Each person trafficked represents a terrified, captive individual forced into a life of exploitation. They are sold from one person to another; their tales are each unique, compelling, and tragic. Despite the harsh reality of human trafficking, why does it garner so little attention? […] The real question is, who is funding these campaigns to deride people who attempt to expose human traffickers?

Meyrat: Protecting the Pedo Community

The Left is outraged by Sound of Freedom. If these critics had their way, Sound of Freedom would have ditched the story of a brave agent saving a young child from sex trafficking in favor of showing social workers and lawyers working through custody battles and court cases. The villains wouldn’t be perverts exploiting minors, but parents who drive away their children because of their ignorance and intolerance. The movie would be unbearably preachy and boring, but it would at least satisfy the sensibilities of the cultural gatekeepers. […] So what is the real problem that critics have with Sound of Freedom? Considering the lurid stories of Jeffrey Epstein and other high-profile sexual predators in Hollywood, it’s not unreasonable to imagine a collective effort to cover up a massive criminal enterprise that implicates powerful individuals in the media. The elites who run these institutions obviously want to keep people in the dark about their nefarious activities, and movies that touch upon child trafficking might expose them. Or it could be that Sound of Freedom casts judgment on a not-yet-protected class of people: pedophiles, or as their defenders call them, “Minor-Attracted-Persons.” Instead of portraying these individuals with sensitivity and sympathy, the movie casts them as irredeemable villains. To endorse such a movie, or even recognize it, would possibly stoke hatred against this group of people, who are supposedly more misunderstood than anything else. Most people, particularly parents, would argue that pedophiles are truly sick people who pose a real threat to society, but for today’s leftists all this sounds like hate speech.

Children are being indoctrinated into everything that subverts traditional values these days, and in Canada that includes bringing children along when a loved one is being euthanized — which goes by the euphemism MAID for medical assistance in dying. Children are introduced into the medical killing fields by Canadian Virtual Hospice with its Medical Assistance in Dying Activity Book, described as being for children ages 6–12. In it, the child is taught how a person is killed during euthanasia:

Reese: School District Flags Nearly 400 Books That May Depict Sex Acts, Gender Identity In Violation Of New State Law

In June, Republican Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds signed SF 496 into law which prohibits lessons on gender identity and sexual orientation from K-6 school classrooms and requires educators to review all books and materials that may depict sex acts. Urbandale Community School District advised its teachers to remove the books it flagged from classrooms and libraries, including “All Boys Aren’t Blue,” a memoir about the experience of a black queer boy growing up that displays graphic sexual encounters, and “Gender Queer,” a book depicting masturbation and oral sex, according to the Des Moines Register.

Le Mathieu: Illinois Governor Signs Bill Allowing Foreign Nationals To Become Police Officers

Governor J.B. Pritzker (D-IL) signed a bill on Friday that will allow foreign nationals in the state to become police officers. The bill, which was opposed by some police groups, including the Fraternal Order of Police, was one of 130 bills Pritzker signed on Friday. Effective immediately, foreign nationals will now be able to become police officers in the state. The law, HB3751, says that foreign nationals who “are legally authorized under federal law to work in the United States” or any foreign national who “is an individual against whom immigration action has been deferred by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services under the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) process” can apply to become a police officer in the state.

A popular narrative suggests young people are liberal and getting more liberal. Thus, social media buzzed when a chart surfaced in spring that seemed to suggest 12th-grade boys had become overwhelmingly conservative. As with many Reddit posts and viral tweets, the truth was more complicated. But the numbers do say this: Twelfth-grade boys are nearly twice as likely to identify as conservative versus liberal, according to a respected federal survey of American youth. In annual surveys over the last three years, roughly one-quarter of high school seniors self-identified as conservative or “very conservative” on the Monitoring the Future survey, a scholarly endeavor that dates to the 1970s. Only 13 percent of boys identified as liberal or very liberal in those years. […] Nowadays, it is girls who are drifting to the left. The share of 12th-grade girls who identified as liberal rose from 19 percent in 2012 to 30 percent in 2022. Only 12 percent of girls identified as conservative in last year’s survey, administered by the University of Michigan.

GMA Team: New study shows alcohol deaths on the rise in women. What are the warning signs?

The investigation, published by JAMA’s Substance Use and Addiction on July 28, examined 605,948 alcohol-related deaths from 1999 to 2020, which didn’t include deaths from injuries, homicides or death indirectly linked to alcohol use. Researchers concluded men were 2.88 times more likely to die than women and that alcohol-related deaths were trending upward for both men and women. However, the rate of death among women increased more rapidly over the same period, up to 14.7% between 2018 to 2020 versus 12.5% in men over the same two years.

Judicial Watch: Secret Service Records Reveal 10 Attacks by Biden German Shepherd ‘Commander’

Judicial Watch announced today that it received 194 pages of records from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) revealing 10 attacks by President Joe Biden’s German Shepherd, Commander, on officers and agents of the U.S. Secret Service (USSS) between October 2022 and January 2023, and do not include any possible recent events. In several cases the agents required medical care, including at a hospital. Judicial Watch forced the release of the records through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit that was filed after the Secret Service, a component of Homeland Security, failed to respond adequately to a December 2022 request for “records related to incidents of aggression and bites involving the Biden family dog, ‘Commander.’” Judicial Watch filed the request after receiving a tip about the dog’s behavior.

Wallace: The Disaster of “Free” Universal Health Care

When a Far Left screed like The New York Times publishes a first-page article that is harshly critical of some “free” or low-cost socialist program, you know that (1) it’s got to be really, really bad, and (2) what The New York Times is writing about it just has to be true. There are simply no other explanations for such rare candor. And so it came to pass that on July 17, 2023, The New York Times published on its front page (left-hand column) an article entitled “After 75 Years, Health Service in U.K. Teeters.” The article is a devastating critique of the British health care system. British health care is free, and it turns out that if you live in the U.K., you get what you pay for. The article begins with a discussion of the experience of Marian Patten, age 78, who was taken by ambulance to Queen’s Hospital in Romford, England with chest pains and pneumonia. After 15 hours she was still waiting to be treated. She had not yet been wheeled into the hallway, and that was actually a good sign, because apparently that was a place reserved for patients facing a wait longer than 15 hours. Upon reading this, I could not help but contrast this with the healthcare my 90+ year old mother-in-law received at a private hospital in Colorado.
