Federer: Remembering the men who took a stand and the day the American revolution began

“To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them.” — George Mason of Virginia. In April of 1775, the British Royal Military Governor of Massachusetts, General Thomas Gage, sent 800 British Army Regulars, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Francis Smith, on a preemptive raid to seize guns from American patriots at Lexington and Concord. As the sun rose, April 19, 1775, there were 800 British regulars approaching Lexington’s town green. To their surprise, they were met by Lexington’s militia, comprised of 77 men who were mostly members of the Church of Christ, pastored by Rev. Jonas Clark, whose wife was a cousin of John Hancock. Patriot captain John Parker told the militia: “Stand your ground; don’t fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have War, let it begin here!” It is disputed who fired first, but the British opened fire and killed or wounded eighteen of Captain Parker’s men. . . .

The American militia retreated, growing to number 400, and took a stand at Concord’s Old North Bridge.

Cardona made comments during the House Appropriations Committee about cracking down on Grand Canyon University and others like it on April 10th. […] Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., asked Cardona how the administration is working to shut down GCU, which she called “a predatory for-profit school.”

Cardona openly embraced their enforcement methods, declaring “we are cracking down not only to shut them down, but to send a message to not prey on students.” […] GCU appealed a $37.7 million fine imposed by the department in November on allegations that the Arizona-based higher learning institution misled students about the cost of its doctoral programs over several years. The fine is much larger than what the Department of Education previously gave to schools like Penn State ($2.4 million) and Michigan State ($4.5 million) for failing to address Jerry Sandusky and Larry Nassar’s crimes, respectively.

It’s almost impossible to select a fair jury in the liberal state of New York. It’s no surprise the former president smells a rat. Two things are becoming increasingly clear as Donald Trump’s historic trial gets underway: it will be difficult for him to get a trial most people will accept as fair, and he’s likely to be helped politically no matter what happens. The perception of unfairness starts with the man who brought the charges, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. District Attorney’s are elected in New York, and in heavily Democratic Manhattan that means aspirants have to appeal to highly partisan primary voters. Bragg did that with repeated statements regarding how many times he had sued Trump or his businesses, and promised to hold him accountable. Given the weak legal basis for his felony indictment, a fact even many liberals acknowledge, it’s no surprise that Trump supporters view this prosecution as grounded in politics, not law. […] Then there’s the jury pool. Jurors are selected from residents of New York County, aka Manhattan, one of the most Democratic and liberal counties in the country. Trump received only 12 percent of the vote there in 2020. He would be lucky if the 12-member jury contains even one person who backed him.

In Another Blow to Decentralized Natural Meat Production, EPA Rule Indirectly Shuts Down Small Meat Producers via Clean Water Act Overreach. In January 23, 2024, under Biden Administration guidance, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed a new rule that will bring 3,879 meat and poultry products (MPP) processing facilities under their jurisdiction. This was swiftly followed by an abbreviated comment period which closed on March 25, 2024, and then immediate implementation of the rule change. All justified by wastewater levels of Nitrogen and Phosphorus coming from animal meat processing, mirroring the WEF agenda to minimize Nitrogen runoff from European farms which has sparked the widespread farmer protests throughout the European Union. The new rule involves a major shift in the technology-based effluent limitations guidelines and standards (ELGs) for the meat and poultry industry, threatening their livelihoods by forcing them to add water filtration systems to their facilities. What does this mean to small meat processing facilities? It’s been reported that the initial cost to install a water filtration system bringing them into compliance would be $300,000-400,000 with a minimum of $100,000 annual maintenance. This would force many small meat-processing facilities to shutter their doors. [Note: In reality, under the guise of saving the planet, the goal of Biden’s EPA is to shut down all beef producers thereby eliminating methane producing cattle. The Wyss-backed Sixteen Thirty Fund has funneled nearly $34 million into Michigan since 2017 to, in part, ‘rewrite the state’s election laws.’ Swiss billionaire whose personal goal is to “(re)interpret the American Constitution in the light of progressive politics” has donated hundreds of millions of dollars to a left-wing group that is dumping millions into state ballot initiatives, a new report from Americans for Public Trust (APT) revealed. Hansjörg Wyss, through his Berger Action Fund, has donated $243 million to the Sixteen Thirty Fund, which “uses its war chest […] to support massive get-out-the-vote drives, issue advocacy campaigns bolstering President Biden’s agenda, liberal pet projects from abortion to immigration, and attack ads against Republican lawmakers,” according to APT. The group also pours resources into state ballot initiatives — to the tune of $97,593,151 over the past decade, according to the report. The cash infusions are “often concentrated in battleground presidential states such as Arizona, Michigan, and Ohio or states with competitive U.S. Senate races like Colorado, Missouri, and Nevada.” The lion’s share of that funding has gone to Michigan, Ohio, Colorado, Nebraska, Missouri, and Nevada, but the Sixteen Thirty Fund also targets ballot initiatives in solid red states like Arkansas, North Dakota, and South Dakota.

Everyone who watched the last congressional hearings featuring university presidents discussing anti-Semitism on campus remembers that it was Rep. Elise Stefanik who really pressed those presidents into making some awkward answers that helped seal their fate. Two of the presidents at that earlier hearing later resigned. So it was a safe bet that she would come prepared today for the hearing featuring representatives from Columbia University. She did not disappoint. In her five minutes of questions she pressed President Shafik over the current status of professor Joseph Massad. In case you’ve forgotten, Massad wrote a piece on Oct. 8, 2023 expressing how impressed he was with the Hamas attack on Israel a day earlier. […] But Rep. Stefanik pulled up the Columbia website and found professor Massad was still listed as chair of that committee. President Shafik immediately started backtracking on her claim that he had been removed and would not commit to removing him when asked. […] Columbia’s school of social work orientation glossary defines “Ashkenormativity” as a “system of oppression that favors white Jewish folx.” The radical Left has turned our universities into hotbeds for antisemitism. Is it possible that President Shafik isn’t familiar with the word/spelling “folx” which is pretty common DEI speak? I’m guessing she pleaded ignorance to avoid opening yet another can of worms. Columbia University professor Joseph Massad emerged on Wednesday contradicting claims made by the school’s president earlier that day before a congressional panel. Massad told the Electronic Intifada that, contrary to Shafik’s claims, he is not to his knowledge under any investigation by university officials, nor has he been removed from his post as chairman of the school’s Academic Review Committee. “I remain the chair of the Academic Review Committee, a one-year position, for the next few weeks, which is the normal end of my chairmanship,” Massad said. “Indeed, I just had a meeting with the committee staff yesterday [16 April] and informed them that I will miss the next and final meeting on 8 May, due to my travel schedule. No one has contacted me at all from the university with regards to my current chairmanship. I will also remain a member of the Academic Review Committee next year, which is a three-year appointment.” Massad’s statement contradicts Shafik’s testimony to the committee, during which the university president said Massad is “under investigation” and was “spoken to” over an Oct. 8 op-ed he published in the Electronic Intifada. Massad in the op-ed lauded Hamas’s Oct. 7 terror attack on Israel as “incredible” and “awesome.” Shafik said that she was “appalled” by the op-ed and that Massad was told the language in his piece was “unacceptable.” Shafik also suggested Massad was. . . .

The chief of the FBI is warning that China already has “burrowed” into critical infrastructure in the United States and now is just waiting for “the right moment to deal a devastating blow.” The FBI’s Christopher Wray said in a Reuters report that an ongoing hacking campaign, known already as Volt Typhoon, has gained access to American telecommunications, energy, water and other companies, including pipeline operators. Wray charged China is assembling the “ability to physically wreak havoc on our critical infrastructure at a time of its choosing. […] Its plan is to land low blows against civilian infrastructure to try to induce panic.”

The city of Isfahan in central Iran was struck at 5am local time, with Israeli projectiles reported to have targeted an Air Force base near Isfahan which long has been home to Iran’s fleet of American-made F-14 Tomcats – purchased before the 1979 Islamic Revolution. A base near the city hosts one of Iran’s nuclear facilities, although US military sources reportedly said the target was not believed to be nuclear. Iran sought to downplay any significant damage to its military facilities and outright denied any nuclear plants were destroyed, claiming that ‘so far, no large-scale strikes or explosions by any air threat have been reported.’

Dozens of National Public Radio (NPR) employees signed on to a letter suggesting that their now-former senior business editor Uri Berliner was spot on in his assessment of the liberal bias that has taken over the network. New York Times media reporter Ben Mullin shared screenshots of the letter, addressed to CEO Katherine Maher and Editor in Chief Edith Chapin, which claimed that Berliner’s essay in The Free Press had left many of them feeling as though they’d been personally attacked. […] “We’re writing to urge stronger support for staff who have had their journalistic expertise called into question by one of their own in a public forum,” the letter read. “We also urge more transparency regarding the consequences of making unauthorized public comments that seek to change NPR’s editorial direction.” […] “Staff, many from marginalized backgrounds, have pushed for internal policy changes through mechanisms like the DEI accountability committee, sharing of affinity group guidelines, and an ad-hoc content review group,” they wrote, complaining that Berliner was getting more attention and apparent change from a short essay than they had after years of work.

A state attorney general is gathering proof that could show abortion giant Planned Parenthood is helping “transgender” kids transition without their parents’ consent. Bailey then vowed to get “to the bottom of how this clandestine network of clinics has subjected children to puberty blockers and irreversible surgery, often without parental consent.” Unfortunately, Planned Parenthood and its medical affiliates are reportedly doing their best to refuse giving information. Why? What are they hiding? […] The AG went on, “What’s most troubling about it is that several of the clinics had initially agreed to turn over the records we had subpoenaed. There were other clinics involved in addition to Planned Parenthood, and then they suddenly changed course after they had communicated with agents of the federal government.” The Biden administration could be involved.

Eastman: California Lawmaker Wants “Genealogy Office” to Prove Eligibility for Reparations

Back in California, where the issue has been pushed forth by a Reparations Task Force approved by Gov. Gavin Newsom, has continued to be busy. The panel had already generated a 1000-page wish list with a $225 billion total, submitted by members that included one who insisted “all white men are serial killers”.

Now, $225 billion is a chunk of change, especially as California was recently looking at a $73 billion deficit. As I noted in an my post about the Texas congresswoman’s demands, one problem is figuring out exactly who is the descendant of slaves. Especially as “family lore” has been used in some famous cases as the basis of claiming race-based perquisites. Now one California lawmaker has a solution: Spend even more money that California doesn’t have on a ‘genealogy office‘ to determine the worthiness of claims.

Kottasz: Croatia is Moving Further to the Right

The centre-right ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) won its fourth parliamentary elections in a row on Wednesday, April 17th, but it will likely have to rely on the conservative, patriotic Homeland Movement to form a government. The EU and NATO member Croatia is moving further to the Right, according to Croatian journalist Goran Andrijanić, who says patriotic forces are gaining in strength not only in the opposition but also within the ruling HDZ party. Prime Minister Andrej Plenković’s HDZ party—a member of the centre-right-liberal European People’s Party—gained 34% of the votes and 61 seats of the 151 seats available in parliament, according to almost final results published on Thursday. This is not enough for the party to secure a majority, and it will have to rely not only on the backing of the ethnic minority candidates (to whom eight seats are allocated), but also one other party.
