If it is human life, killing is not justified at any stage of development, except to save the mother. Why would the murder of babies be OK in one state and not another? Florida and Missouri refused requests from the Department of Justice (DOJ) to place federal election monitors inside polling locations during the 2022 elections, arguing doing so would be tantamount to federal voter intimidation. The Federalist inquired with other Republican-led states whether they would take a similar stance should the DOJ make the same requests — but not all appeared willing to stand up to Biden’s weaponized agency. The DOJ announced in 2022 it would send election monitors to 64 jurisdictions across the nation to monitor alleged voter intimidation and threats. Several Florida counties were included in the DOJ’s list, but Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis refused DOJ election monitors to enter polling sites in South Florida, arguing DOJ’s involvement would be “counterproductive” and “potentially undermine confidence in the election.” “Florida statutes list the people who ‘may enter any polling room or polling place,’” Chief Counsel for the Florida Department of State Brad McVay wrote in a letter. In the Biden administration’s latest salvo against the Dobbs decision, on Monday HHS finalized HIPAA regulations that directly attack pro-life state laws and place innocent doctors in the crossfire. I was the nation’s HIPAA regulator under President Trump, so I can speak with some authority on this matter. HIPAA regulations are painstakingly balanced protecting patient privacy across a multitude of weighty interests including research, public health, treatment efficacy, cost containment, and notably, law enforcement. For decades, HIPAA rightly got out of the way whenever courts validly authorized search warrants of medical records. But new Biden regulations have flipped this long-standing arrangement and doctors now risk incarceration if they comply with a valid warrant that seeks records related to “reproductive health care,” defined to include abortion, among other procedures.

National Review Editors: Democrats’ Leonard Leo Subpoena Threatens, Panders — and Backfires
Senate Democrats can’t seem to help revealing their priorities. The rule of law isn’t one of them. While the entire Democratic caucus agreed to shrug at the Department of Homeland Security nullifying federal immigration law, Senate majority whip and Judiciary Committee chairman Dick Durbin has decided to press forward with a subpoena for conservative legal activist Leonard Leo. The subpoena is part of a supposed investigation of Supreme Court ethics and seeks information from Leo — but not from similarly situated parties on the left — regarding gifts, accommodations, and other benefits to Supreme Court justices. It was issued on a party-line basis without allowing the participation of the committee’s Republicans. Durbin had stepped back from the brink of actually issuing a subpoena after Democrats voted to authorize one in November, but that was then; now it’s the eve of the spring rush of Supreme Court decisions and election-year fundraising. Priorities. In theory, the subpoena sets up a showdown with Leo, who reiterated through his attorney that he considers it unlawful and will not comply. In practice, Durbin knows perfectly well that Democrats lack the votes to hold Leo in contempt, so the entire process is for show. Consider whom the show is for.
Severi: Senate passes $95 billion foreign aid package, including potential TikTok ban
The measure passed 79-18. Congress has been at a standstill over additional funding for Ukraine, and other funding for Israel and Taiwan, with many Republicans holding out until there was substantial legislation for the southern border crisis. But the House passed three bills on Saturday that include $61 billion for Ukraine, $26 billion for Israel, and $8.1 billion in aid for Taiwan. The Senate cleared one hurdle earlier Tuesday, by voting to end the filibuster on the foreign aid package in a 80-19 vote. That teed up the final vote on Tuesday night. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Republican from Kentucky, praised the end of the filibuster, claiming that Republicans had “turned the corner” on the aid package. China is taking a page out of the U.S. historic playbook by flexing its economic and military muscles in the Western Hemisphere, with the goal of pulling U.S. neighbors to its side. New documents show that Beijing appears to be attempting to establish its own satellite state in the Caribbean. The U.S. has long reigned supreme in the Western Hemisphere since the signing of the Monroe Doctrine in 1823, but China has been “exploiting a fragile security environment and taking advantage of the region’s need for economic investment to gain influence and advance its malign agenda” in a move that challenges U.S. hegemony in the Americas, U.S. Southern Command Comm. Gen. Laura Richardson recently told Congress in written testimony.

A Reuters review of hundreds of tender documents shows 10 Chinese entities acquired advanced Nvidia chips embedded in server products made by Super Micro Computer Inc. (SMCI.O), Dell Technologies Inc. (DELL.N) and Taiwan’s Gigabyte Technology Co Ltd (2376.TW) after the U.S. on Nov. 17 expanded the embargo to subject more chips and countries to licensing rules. Specifically, the servers contained some of Nvidia’s most advanced chips, according to the previously unreported tenders fulfilled between Nov. 20 and Feb. 28. While the U.S. bars Nvidia and its partners from selling advanced chips to China, including via third parties, the sale and purchase of the chips are not illegal in China.

A protester who loudly disrupted a speech at Harvard by Chinese Ambassador Xie Feng on the eve of a visit by Secretary of State Antony Blinken to China said she did it to discourage world-class universities from “kowtowing to China” despite committing human rights abuses. Harvard junior Cosette Wu, who grew up in Hawaii with Taiwanese parents, stood up with a banner that read “China Lies” during Xie’s speech to the Kennedy School of Government on Sunday, shouting loudly about the ruling Chinese Communist Party’s political crackdown in Hong Kong and its threat to invade democratic Taiwan. As Xie was speaking, Wu stood up suddenly and yelled: “Xie Feng, you paint an image of a prosperous China, but your hands are painted with blood!” “You’ve robbed Hong Kongers of their most fundamental freedoms and devastated their democracy. Now in my country Taiwan, you sought to do the same!” she shouted. The Biden Administration would like to end the tradition of generational military service. Secretary of the Army Christine Wormuth is concerned about the risk of “developing a warrior caste,” as, stubbornly, the majority of military recruits come from military or veteran families. In a recent hearing in front of the House Armed Services Committee, Secretary Wormuth warned of the possibility that the Army would become “more and more distant” from the population it swears to defend. Secretary Wormuth insisted “that’s something you want to guard against,” but did not manage to give a reason why.
The military must exist based on hierarchical values that are—justifiably—unknown to a democratic society built on liberalism. Service in the military requires a life of sacrifice and order that runs counter to a civilian American upbringing. […] Having never served in uniform herself, Secretary Wormuth has spent decades cycling back and forth between bureaucratic outposts and think tank roles. She has evidently spent little time considering the military as a profession. As Columbia University’s most prominent alum, former president Barack Obama would seem to have a moral obligation to speak about what is arguably the most visible outbreak of antisemitism on American soil in his lifetime. I refer here to the occupation of Obama’s alma mater by Hamas-supporters who have been openly threatening Jewish students, chanting “Kill all Zionists,” and shouting racial slurs like “pig.” As I sat down to write this, five days into the protest, Obama had said not a word. By contrast, Obama was tweeting about the August 2017 Antifa/white nationalist brouhaha in Charlottesville, Virginia before the day was through.“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion,” Obama tweeted in the evening of August 12. “People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.” At the time, this was the most “liked” tweet in Twitter (now X) history. […] Issuing bona fide determinations for U visa applicants is a relatively new process, and was implemented by Citizenship and Immigration Services in 2021. “These determinations are one step closer to justice,” Self said. “[They] further underscore that anyone who knows all the facts […] simply cannot ignore the criminality of the actors.” Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis — who was weighing a 2024 presidential run at the time — immediately took credit for the 2022 flights, which were born out of the state’s $12 million state-funded migrant relocation program.

The event, where VIP tables cost $400, repeatedly mentions alcohol and promises “Free Rapid HIV Testing!” (One wonders what happens after the drinking, bingo, and talent show.) […] It seems as if state and federal government agencies are increasingly dedicated to pushing LGBTQ-related propaganda. For example, the Biden administration reportedly funded drag shows for minors in Ecuador. The monstrous spending package recently passed by Congress provided money to a group distributing LGBTQ gear, including dangerous chest binders and gaffs, without parental permission. A state government agency in Indiana confiscated the son of a Catholic couple who refused to affirm his delusion that he was “transgender.”

It seems like having kids is outwardly presented as the meaning of life but privately experienced as a massive toll on life. No one can really tell you if they regret having kids, either. There seems to be no issue that stirs up people as the issue of abortion. It likely is because the thinking and narrative around the subject have been so distorted over the past 40 years or so. It would appear that the issue will be critical in multiple elections this cycle, including the state of Arizona. If that is so, we need to be clear-headed about what is going on. In part, the controversy is because abortion is both a moral and a political issue. One can take a moral point of view, and also a political point of view that may differ or may coincide. Is that hypocrisy or just because some things are in the moral realm and some in the political realm? There has always been tension between complying with the civil government and Biblical law as in Mark 12:17. “Render unto Ceasar. . .” […] What is a “clump of cells”? Well, a clump of cells could be asparagus growing or toe fungus. If that were the case, then there is no question that you can destroy this clump of cells. However, the “clump of cells” in question is quite particular. It contains the DNA of at least two people, but actually many more people that had created their own clump of cells. This clump of cells will become only one thing, a new human being. To avoid the reality of this logic, the next typical step is to suggest as long as this clump of cells is not developed enough “to be human”, the baby has no rights whatsoever and thus it is OK to kill the clump. But then there is the tricky issue of determining when precisely is that?

Richards: Tennessee legislators pass bill that would let teachers carry guns in schools
The Tennessee House cleared the legislation in a 68-28 vote. Four Republicans joined Democrats in opposing the measure. The state Senate, which is also controlled by the GOP, passed the measure earlier this month. […] Under the legislation, faculty and staff members who wish to carry a concealed handgun on school grounds would need to complete a minimum of 40 hours of approved training specific to school policing each year. Legislation introduced earlier this year by California Democrats aims to ban private companies that allow paying customers to bypass security checkpoints from operating in California airports, citing equality concerns. Senate Bill 1372 was formally introduced in February of this year by State Senator Josh Newman (D-29SD) and is scheduled for a hearing in the Senate Transportation Committee today. Newman’s legislation would target companies like Clear, which allows its members to bypass TSA security checkpoints by using biometric data like retina scans and fingerprints to skip the screening process that TSA uses. According to Newman, this is unfair and allows people with more money to jump ahead of others simply because they have more cash. Clear charges their members $189 per year for this service, and it is in use in over 55 airports across the United States. In California alone, the Clear service has been used over five million times in 2023.
