Arizona Senate Panel Debates Parental Rights’ School ‘Pronouns’ Bill

Estimated Reading Time: 3 minutes

The Arizona state Senate Education Committee met Wednesday [1/18/23] to consider SB 1001, The Given Name Act, a one-page, 21-line bill that states that any individual involved in the Arizona public education system would be required to use the pronoun associated with a student’s biological sex unless the student’s public school or charter school received other instructions from the student’s parent or parents.

No public or charter school staff member, full time or contractor, would be able to use alternative pronouns for a student without the written permission of the student’s parents.

The legislation would reinforce parents’ ultimate authority in deciding what names their children should and should not be called by staff members, providing a stopgap via parental approval before public districts attempt to treat or affirm gender dysphoria with only the minor’s limited understanding of what they are going through.

State Sen. John Kavanagh, Scottsdale Republican, the sponsor of SB 1001, said that if a child had serious psychological distress as a result of the gender dysphoria he or she was dealing with, then parents need to be alerted immediately so that the child can be given immediate medical and psychological care parents deem necessary.

Kavanagh disputed the common counterargument that many parents would be unsupportive and would therefore be a danger to their “transgender child.”

“The vast majority of parents will want to help their child,” he said, “What a horrible condemnation of the average American parent” to suggest otherwise. He added that Child Protective Services was still obligated, as always, to investigate any concerns of child abuse.

At no time during the committee hearing was Kavanagh’s concern for the high rate of student-suicide correlation addressed by Democratic members.

State Sen. Sally Ann Gonzales, Tucson Democrat, said, “For lots of indigenous children, their names were changed without parental permission—Maria got changed to Mary, Roberto got changed to Robert. I think that’s wrong for that to be happening. I’m not sure what the intent is for allowing … contractors and employers also not to say their names.”

Kavanagh responded that the bill would allow students to go by nicknames.

State Sen. Christine Marsh, Phoenix Democrat, suggested that the bill would go against the rights of parents who might agree with a child wanting different pronouns. “What if the parent agrees to a child having alternative pronouns?” she asked.

Kavanagh countered by citing the first sentence of his bill, which states that parental permission would allow a child to go by whatever pronouns the parent wishes.

Marsh took issue with the second portion of the bill, which states that a teacher or contractor could not be required to use a student’s pronouns, protecting their religious and moral liberties. She said that as a teacher for 33 years, she never had to fall back on “religious beliefs” as a standard for how she would respond to a student. “Are there other examples or situations in which a teacher’s religious beliefs override the parent’s?” she asked.

Kavanagh responded with an example of a Jewish or Muslim cafeteria worker being exempt from having to serve pork to students at school lunches. He also cited dress code considerations for students of different religions. After providing those examples, Kavanagh asked whether Marsh would agree with him that parents should be notified of potential mental health issues associated with gender dysphoria.

“No, I don’t agree, I just want the hypocrisy of the bill to be pointed out,” Marsh replied.

Several testimonials were offered by concerned parents, students, and activists, both for and against the bill.

One educator from Scottsdale praised the bill, claiming that as a Jew, she has religious objections to using pronouns or names that conflict with a student’s biological sex.

One activist claimed that parents should be involved and be aware of what their kids are going through, but suggested that students should be allowed to decide when their parents are ready to find out about it.

One critical point ignored by those opposing the bill is the inability of a minor under severe mental distress to safely self-treat gender dysphoria or any severe mental health issue or trauma. Encouraging minors to decide how best to treat themselves sets a dangerous precedent—and risks a very real threat of suicide or self-harm without the parent having an opportunity to aid his or her child.

One transgender advocate claimed that “no one commits suicide because they are gender dysphoric,” but implied that bullying was the cause.

While 20.2% of students claim to have been bullied, according to the National Center for Education Statistics, 8.9% have admitted attempting suicide. In contrast, while 51% of transgender individuals have claimed to be victims of bullying, 40% of transgender individuals admitted attempting suicide.

One opponent of the bill called Kavanagh “Senator Coward,” during his testimony, to which Kavanagh quipped, “You’re free to call me that [under this bill], as long as you get written permission from my parents.”

With only a one-seat advantage on the Senate Education Committee, Republicans will likely revise The Given Name Act and clarify a few points of language via amendments over the next several weeks.

The Morning Briefing: Shockingly, the Trans Cult Keeps Finding Ways to Get Weirder

Estimated Reading Time: < 1 minute

The escalation in trans (-gender and -vestite) news in recent years has been truly mind-boggling. A fringe (don’t believe the new numbers) segment of the American public has been dominating the leftist news organizations. While it’s true that the MSM is just making it up as they go along, I would have guessed they’d go for something more leftist mainstream, like paying for everything that illegal aliens do once they arrive here.

Instead, they have decided that the woke agenda was best forced on American society via the “T” portion of the LGBTQ alphabet soup community.

The woke trans agenda is everywhere now. We’re even seeing corporations get in on the messaging.

Here’s the thing, though: the more that the Democrats try to convince us that this is all normal and well, the more outlandish the trans crowd becomes.

Last month, I wrote a VIP column about trans dudes who are freezing tomato juice to help them mimic period symptoms. I won’t go into detail about exactly what the boys are doing with the juice, but I referred to them as “poopsicles” in the column. There are online forums discussing how best for a biological male who wants to pretend that he’s a woman to fake a period.

I guess it’s a rite of passage that the trans guys go through before they can “get pregnant.”….

Study Finds 4.5x Higher Psychiatric Illness Rate for Transgenders

Estimated Reading Time: 2 minutes

The medical journal Transgender Health recently published a study that revealed transgenders are 4.5 times more likely to have psychiatric illnesses. Of course, the journal tried to claim this is because of discrimination and all that nonsense, but the reality is that it is extremely difficult to be in business or the public square and be anti-transgenderism. The government, the education system, big corporations, Big Tech, Hollywood, the arts, sports, even some churches—practically every major sector of society constantly praises and pushes LGBTQ ideology. And yet “transgenders” continue to have serious mental health issues. It wouldn’t be because “transgenders” act in unnatural ways and mutilate their own bodies to try and be someone they are not biologically, would it?

Not at all, according to Transgender Health, which obviously has no vested interest in promoting transgenderism despite the evidence, right? In fact, the journal decided kids should transition to “transgender” at even younger ages (the transgender surgery industry is estimated to be worth $5 billion by 2030, so there’s a clear financial incentive). That way young people can hate their bodies and regret double mastectomies at even younger ages. Even the New York Times recently published an in-depth piece admitting that puberty blockers can have severe long-term effects on kids, including their bones and brains.

“[PJ Media] In the least surprising clinical conclusion in world history, research published in the medical journal Transgender Health revealed the sizable mental health disparity between transgender and cisgender subjects:

We performed a cross-sectional analysis of the prevalence of psychiatric diagnoses among transgender patients in clinical care using an all-payer electronic health record database. Of 10,270 transgender patients identified, 58% (n=5940) had at least one psychiatric diagnosis compared with 13.6% (n=7,311,780) in the control patient population (p<0.0005). Transgender patients had a statistically significant increase in prevalence for all psychiatric diagnoses queried, with major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder being the most common diagnoses’

The researchers found ‘increased rates of bipolar disorder, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and substance use disorders’ in the transgender population, among other negative disparities like schizoaffective disorder, panic disorder, and agoraphobia.

The study examined the records of 53,449,400 patients, so it was a huge sample size.”

Don’t expect the party of “Science” to stop pushing transgenderism in light of the evidence, though.

Court Permanently Blocks Biden Administration’s Transgender Mandate

Estimated Reading Time: 2 minutes

A federal appeals court has permanently blocked the Biden administration’s bid to force doctors and insurers to perform or pay for gender-transition procedures even if they object on grounds of conscience and medical judgment, with the court basing its decision on constitutional protections of religious freedom.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit issued a unanimous ruling (pdf) on Dec. 9 blocking the controversial U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) transgender mandate.

Issued in 2016, the mandate interpreted the Affordable Care Act in a way that required doctors to perform gender-transition procedures on any patient, including children, even if the doctor was convinced the procedure could harm the patient.

Controversial Mandate

The mandate also required the vast majority of private insurance companies and many employers to cover the costs of gender-transition therapy or face penalties.

The HHS’s own panel of medical experts acknowledged that gender-transition procedures can be harmful and in many cases not medically justified, with HHS determining that Medicare and Medicaid shouldn’t be forced to cover such procedures.

Research has shown that gender-transition procedures carry significant risk for children, including loss of bone density, heart disease, and cancer.

‘Do No Harm’

Religious organizations and states sued to block the mandate, with the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty and the North Dakota Attorney General’s office representing some of the groups.

“The federal government has no business forcing doctors to violate their consciences or perform controversial procedures that could permanently harm their patients,” Luke Goodrich, vice president and senior counsel at Becket, said in a statement.

“This is a common-sense ruling that protects patients, aligns with best medical practice, and ensures doctors can follow their Hippocratic Oath to ‘do no harm.’”

Becket filed the lawsuit in 2016 on behalf of a coalition of Catholic hospitals, a Catholic university, and Catholic nuns who run health clinics for the poor.

A federal district court blocked the mandate from taking effect, leading the Biden administration to appeal the case to the 8th Circuit, which in its Dec. 8 ruling concluded that the lower court “correctly held that ‘intrusion upon the Catholic Plaintiff’s exercise of religion’” justified a permanent injunction…..

CHILDREN: Majority of Americans Believe Transgender Movement Has Gone Too Far

Estimated Reading Time: < 1 minute

A new poll finds 75 percent of likely American voters believe the transgender movement has gone too far by encouraging underage minors to use drugs and surgery to transition to the opposite sex.

The survey, co-sponsored by Colorado-based Summit Ministries – which embraces a Christian worldview – and national polling firm McLaughlin & Associates, also finds 69 percent of voters who have an opinion on the issue believe the rise in transgenderism among teens is the result of influence to question their gender by social media and other cultural forces.

The poll of 1,000 likely general election voters across the country was conducted October 12-17, and has an accuracy of +/- 3.1 percent at a 95 percent confidence interval.

“What is your opinion on why transgenderism is rising amongst underage minors?” respondents were asked. “Underage minors feel free to question their gender without judgement, OR, Underage minors are being influenced to question their gender due to social media and other cultural influences.”

Among the 860 participants who answered this question, 69 percent said underage minors are being influenced to question their gender, while 31 percent said they feel free to question their gender without judgment.

“Do you believe the transgender movement has gone too far by encouraging underage minors to use drugs and surgery to transition to the opposite sex?” participants were asked.

Among the 858 respondents who answered this question, 75 percent answered “yes,” while 24 percent said, “no.”….

Identity Crisis

Estimated Reading Time: 8 minutes

In the early Spring I began working on a documentary series for Independent Women’s Forum called “Identity Crisis.” The project tells the stories of four mothers whose daughters fell victim to gender ideology, two detransitioners who now warn of the harms this movement is causing, and one mental health professional who rails against her profession for prioritizing political correctness over public health.

This series was inspired by the censorship and media blackout these individuals have faced. The number of transgender-identifying youth has nearly doubled in recent years, which has left politicians, educators, medical professionals, and the public at odds over what policies are best suited to protect the health and well-being of children. Despite the high stakes, the media is only telling one side of the story. We’re here to change that, and I’m here to shed light on some of the personal devastation that these individuals and families have faced.

The most recent story published in our series features Vera Lindner, an immigrant mother from California who says gender ideology drove her autistic, gender-confused daughter into a “catastrophic” mental breakdown. Her daughter faced a slew of mental health issues that needed to be addressed: she was diagnosed with autism, ADHD, depression, anxiety, and an eating disorder. But all the therapist who was supposed to be treating her wanted to do was “affirm” her new male identity. From the moment her daughter declared her transgender identity, the therapist started referring to her daughter as a boy. No questions asked.

This mother’s story explores a huge aspect of the transgender movement that politicians, medical professionals, media, and activists don’t want to acknowledge, let alone explore—the connection between autism and transgenderism. It’s malpractice.

The first story featured in our series involved Jeannette Cooper, a Chicago mother who lost custody of her 12-year-old daughter for insisting that she is a girl. After a regular custodial visit to her father’s house, Jeannette’s daughter decided she was trans and felt “unsafe” around her mom. In the last 3 years, Jeannette has seen her daughter for a total of 8 and a half hours. It’s been so long that Jeannette doesn’t even know how tall her daughter is anymore. She’s only allowed to communicate with her by postal mail. As Jeannette said, “People who are in prison have more communication with their child than I do. It’s wrong.”

Then came Jennifer, a mother from a Seattle suburb who in 2019 received an email from her daughter’s 5th-grade teacher. The teacher, a male, was using a different name for her then-10-year-old daughter. Jennifer thought it was a mistake—the teacher must have accidentally emailed the wrong parent. But Jennifer later found out that for six months, her daughter was meeting with a school therapist once a week who was treating her as a boy, using male pronouns and a made-up male name.

In February 2020, right before COVID-19 hit, that therapist emailed Jennifer to schedule a meeting where the therapist would assist her daughter in officially “coming out” to her parents as a boy, and to obtain parental permission to allow her daughter to stay overnight in the boy’s cabin for an upcoming school trip. At this point, Jennifer’s daughter was only 11 years old, so the school had to obtain permission. But had she been 13, Jennifer wouldn’t even have had a right to know because she lives in Washington state, where children as young as 13 years old can access their own medical and mental health services without parental knowledge or consent.

Parents in these cases are billed by insurance companies with no explanation of benefits, meaning they’re stuck with the tab but have no ability to know what services or treatments their child received. California is trying to take it one step further, making itself a “sanctuary state” for children to receive hormones, puberty blockers, and irreversible “gender surgery” without parental consent.

Next came Susie, a mom from Alaska who came face-to-face with the growing phenomenon of adolescent girls identifying as the opposite sex due to a social desire to appear transgender. Critics call the social contagion theory “unfounded” and “absurd,” but after returning in 2020 to the U.S. from a four-year assignment abroad, Susie’s family settled into a house on a street where two out of the eight girls identified as boys. At the local high school where their daughter would soon attend, at least another 10 girls identified as the opposite sex. Shortly after moving there, Susie’s oldest daughter, who had just turned 15, also said she felt like a boy. Susie’s daughter had previously never expressed any discomfort about her gender, but the Left considers this a complete coincidence.

Susie disclosed to her new school counselor in Alaska that her daughter was struggling with mental health issues including anxiety, depression, and gender confusion. Susie thought the school was on the same page with how she and her husband wanted to handle their daughter’s sudden transgender identification—by giving their daughter time to experience and explore her feelings, without changing her name or pronouns. But in fall 2021, at the start of the next school year, Susie found her daughter’s student ID, which featured her new, made-up name.

The fact that the school was socially transitioning Susie’s daughter behind her back came as a surprise to Susie, since the entire year, the school was communicating with Susie using female pronouns and her daughter’s real name. When she eventually decided to confront the school and ask how her daughter’s name would appear in the yearbook, school officials told Susie that she has no say over anything her daughter wants to go by or what’s in her record, erroneously citing federal Title IX requirements.

Every one of these mothers’ stories are different. They’re all horrifying in their own way. But all of them have a common theme: A deep and painful sense of betrayal.

The Serpent’s Sting

Mothers, many of them former Democrats, are sickened and betrayed by Democrat politicians whom they spent a lifetime supporting. Democrats who’ve chosen to affirm a toxic ideology that exploits vulnerable children instead of protecting them.

They’re sickened and betrayed by public school educators and administrators lying to them and changing their children’s names and pronouns in-secret, behind their backs. They’re sickened and betrayed by a legal system that was designed to protect children, but is instead using gender ideology as a weapon to sever one of the most fundamental bonds in life—the bond between a mother and her child.

They’re sickened and betrayed by health professionals who took an oath to protect patients from harm and injustice, yet perpetuate just that. They’re sickened and betrayed by a media echo chamber convincing the public that lying to children about their gender is the “kind” and “compassionate” thing to do, when doing so leads children down a path of lifelong doctor’s appointments and medical complications.

They’re sickened and betrayed by seemingly every adult with an ounce of authority, from so-called “support groups” to the President of the United States, sending this message: “We know better than the parents do what’s best for this child,” as if anyone in the world could know and love a child more than that child’s own parents.

I started working on this project when I returned from maternity leave with my second child. To be honest, I wasn’t ready at all to get back to work when I did—even with the privilege of being able to work from home. But I believe God purposefully put this project in my lap, giving me, a fellow mom, the opportunity to give these parents a voice. With a 4-month-old baby sleeping on my chest, I spent hours on the phone listening to these moms and wondering, “How did we let this go so far?” Then with my 2-year-old daughter knocking at my office door asking, “Mommy, are you done with work?” I looked at her through tears wondering, “What if this happened to her?”

I believe what we’re talking about today is a generation of young girls being manipulated and mutilated in a way not much different from female genital mutilation. Which is ironic, because my inspiration for entering this field of work in college was learning about exactly that. But when I was studying them in college, these abuses were always taking place in some far-off country. Never did I imagine reporting on them here at home.

As part of our series, I chose to also tell the stories of two young women who went down the path of a medical transition, only to regret it a few years later. One of them, Daisy Strongin, went so far as to chop off her healthy breasts only to realize shortly after that objectively, she could never actually be a boy. Just a few weeks ago, Daisy gave birth to a beautiful, healthy baby boy. It was the fear of never being able to conceive a child due to medical mutilation that ultimately drove her to give it all up.

During our interview, Daisy told me, “If you told me two years ago that in 2022 you would be married and pregnant, I wouldn’t believe you. My parents told me that I would change a lot, but I just could not conceptualize it.”

Daisy’s now happily married and a new mom. But she’ll never be able to breastfeed, she still grows facial hair, and her voice has been permanently deepened. She doesn’t know in what other ways the years of testosterone may have damaged her body, but she knows she’ll do everything in her power to stop her own child from going down this path.

Another detransitioner who I interviewed, Cat Cattison, told me this:

My parents didn’t affirm me, and at the time it did make me very angry. But looking back, I’m very thankful for that. I think that if I would have been able to transition as a child and gone onto puberty blockers, gone onto cross sex hormones at a young age and cut off body parts, I think I would be looking back and I would be thinking, how could you enable this? How could you have gone along with this when I was too young to consent? I do think that, in the future, we’re going to see a lot of children who have detransitioned being angry with their parents and feeling betrayed by them.

Making Up for Lost Time

Here, then, we come full circle. Not only are parents being betrayed, but children are, too. Thousands of parents are suffering at the hands of the gender ideology movement. But it’s their children who are the greatest victims in it.

As the mom of a young girl, I can sleep at night knowing I’m on the right side of this fight, despite the nasty attacks we face. But what makes it hard to sleep is knowing how as a movement, conservatives were too late. We have already failed thousands of vulnerable young girls, who’ve already started puberty blockers and sterilized themselves. We have already failed thousands of young girls who’ve already cut off their breasts or worse, cut off their own skin from their arms or their legs to make a fake penis.

Families have been ripped apart; parents, children, and siblings have been pitted against each other. Doctors, teachers, media, politicians, and activists have normalized young, healthy children mutilating themselves under the guise of tolerance and compassion. It’s literally normal for doctors today to prescribe gender confused children drugs, surgery, and medical treatments—as if it would ever be normal for doctors to prescribe anorexic girls gastric bypass surgery.

How did we get here? As a movement, we were too late. And even today, we’re not doing enough. But these parents and detransitioners aren’t giving up. They’re refusing to be silenced. They’re using their voices to fight for their children, and we’re doing everything in our power to support them. In some cases, like that of Jeannette Cooper, the Chicago mother who lost custody of her daughter simply for insisting that her daughter is a girl, they’ve made the ultimate sacrifice. They’ve lost the basic ability to even see their own child. Why? What makes these unimaginable costs worth it? Here’s Jeannette explaining, in her own words:

I see that my child is at sea in a boat. She is struggling. She is in tumultuous seas. I know that. I have seen that. And what I have been told is to follow her lead, to follow her in this journey.

I am not willing to do that. I don’t think that is good parenting. It is my responsibility not to hook my boat to hers. It is my responsibility to be a lighthouse, to be something stable that she can see, some guide that she has, that will always be there, that is consistent.

That is my responsibility. I still do that today even though I have no custody of her. I have no medical decision making. No educational decision making. And no way to communicate with her other than by mail. I don’t have her phone number. I know where she lives, but I’m not allowed to go there. I know where she goes to school and I’m not allowed there either. But this is parenting. What I’m doing, even though I have no real contact with her, I am still her parent. I am still her mother. And I am still parenting now.

I’ll close my remarks with this. As conservatives, we give a lot of attention to the idea of leftist policies teaching Americans to hate their own country—as we rightly should. But with gender ideology, the reality is far worse than that: leftist policies are teaching children to hate their own parents and to hate their own bodies. There is something fundamentally wrong with that. It’s perverse, destructive, and needs to be stopped.

Sometimes You Feel Like a Nut, Sometimes You Don’t

Estimated Reading Time: 4 minutes

The headline is taken from an old television ad and accompanying jingle to help distinguish between two candy bars: Almond Joy and Mounds. We would interpret this to mean that sometimes one feels like a candy bar with a large nut, chocolate, and coconut,  and sometimes you just want the coconut and chocolate. Such matters of taste and craving can be fluid and quickly changing. Clever and the jingle was catchy.

But should one’s legal sexual status, as it relates to legal documents,  be as fluid as choosing a candy bar?

In Europe, the answer seems to be yes.

The website iamexpat.com says that German law (if approved by Parliament) will allow individuals to state their “sexual identification” on legal documents once a year. This necessity to bend the law apparently stems from the “right to a self-determined life”.

When does this right begin or end?  Are there any limits to these “rights?”

For every right, there is a responsibility. What are the responsibilities of a “self-determined” life?

Maybe the Germans will instruct us.

What if I identify as Peter Pan? That is my determination of my life. Will I age or will I always be a child?  If I think I can fly, do I need to contact the FAA and file a flight plan? What kind of a craft am I?

Hmmm…since sex and gender are fluid concepts, is once a year really often enough?  It would seem that daily or hourly changes are more appropriate. Otherwise, one might be trapped inside another body for a year and that seems overly harsh.

The article goes on to say this simply gets German law up to speed with Denmark, Switzerland, and the country I think most appropriate to copy, Ithinkastan.

The idea that you really are what you think you are, and that this supplants DNA, hormones, and sexual organs, and what you previously thought you were; was first perfected in Ithinkastan, or at least I think so.

It has gone beyond demanding pronouns. Now legal documents that relate to gender, names, and descriptions, can be changed at will based on how you “feel” at least annually.

How is this going to work in practice? I would presume that “legal” documents are legal, and binding to the law, right?

So, let us suppose I forcibly penetrate a young girl against her consent. A description is put out by the police and I am arrested.

I should be able to claim I am female, if that is how I feel, and I would most assuredly feel that way, facing prosecution. Since I am now not the person described by the victim, I cannot be prosecuted since I am no longer that person, legally speaking. If I am really a female, I could not possibly commit the crime of which I am accused. The crime was committed by a male, and I no longer think of myself as male, and therefore the law must recognize I am another person. The crime was committed by someone else.

Or let us suppose, I want to compete on a girl’s athletic team. I can change my sexual preference and get on the team, right? That is now accepted in the US by the NCAA and prestigious Ivy League Colleges. So, is the aforementioned hypothetical that far-fetched?

Women prisoners are being impregnated by other  “female” prisoners. Oh, so the example is not so far-fetched.

If I claim I am a woman, can I get lower insurance premiums because women live longer and thus I am entitled to the different actuarial table? This male swimmer for the University of Pennsylvania says he is a woman, how is his/her car insurance premium handled? Young women are not as reckless as drivers as males and often pay lower premiums.

What kind of havoc will gender-bending legal documents have on the law, actuarial science, and society at large?

Can I “identify” with different ages, and alter my birth certificate, as they now do with gender? If so, can I get Social Security at 22? Could I lower my age, become a minor, and thus have all my records sealed and get lesser penalties?

I mean, why should “self-determination” be limited to gender?

Can I get into medical school ahead of others, because my new gender/race/ethnic group is sought by recruitment boards seeking to fulfill their “diversity and inclusion” mandates? And since Facebook says there are 64 genders, can I keep rotating until I get the spot I want?

Seriously, why should “self-determination” be limited to gender? A whole subculture is developing of “furries”, or people that identify as cats and dogs.

So, if arrested, you could claim both different sex and a different species. That should throw the jury for a loop. If they don’t accept how you identify, they are clearly bigots of the worst sort.

We already have the case of people identifying with another race, and that did not end too well for the former Seattle head of the NAACP.

It seems the poor “woman” has had difficulty finding work. Why the difficulty of choosing a different race but you are celebrated if you choose a different gender, given the universal right to self-determination?

She was accused of being a “race faker.” Can one be a gender faker?

There used to be a concept regarding personal liberty that suggested, “you are free to swing your arms until it impacts my nose.”

It suggests toleration for a broad swath of aberrant behaviors, as long as they are done privately and do not impact the law and harm the public that does not wish to participate in the given quirk, fetish, or identification.

I really could care less what people do “in the privacy of their homes.” I feel sorry for their mental illness. But these gender activists are doing mischief with the law, trying to influence our children and culture, altering sports competitions, and harming other people and their livelihoods. They can ruin your bakery, have you de-platformed, and have you fired. They are harming us.

This now is impacting all of our “noses.”

Worse yet, the medical profession, especially psychiatrists and healthcare workers, are either ambivalent or defending this nonsense. And, to suggest you are what you “feel”  is nonsense and not supported by any science until five minutes ago.

Sometimes you feel like a nut because that is precisely what you are.

Biden Administration Holds School Lunches Hostage to Radical Transgender Agenda

Estimated Reading Time: 3 minutes

There’s been plenty of Sturm und Drang over the upcoming Title IX rule change from the Department of Education—one that will expand the prohibition against “sex” discrimination under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 to “gender identity” discrimination. And the Sturm und Drang is well warranted.

Such a change—anticipated for release this month—will, among other things, open up every single-sex restroom, locker room, housing accommodation, sports team, or admission program to the opposite sex, if those individuals simply claim to be female.

A June release of the new rule poetically coincides with Title IX’s 50th anniversary and LGBTQ “Pride” month.

Because of the significance of the new rule, it might have been easy to miss the Biden administration’s most diabolical move yet in its battle for mass transgender acceptance.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has recently announced that it, too, will interpret the prohibition on discrimination based on “sex” found in Title IX to include “sexual orientation and gender identity.”

Except it goes further: It will also expand the “sex” discrimination definition found in the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 amended by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (formerly the food stamp program) in precisely the same way.

Why does that matter?

Because it holds food for needy children hostage to the transgender agenda.

In a memorandum from May, the USDA directed all state agencies and Food and Nutrition Act program operators to “expeditiously review their program discrimination complaint procedures and make any changes necessary to ensure complaints alleging discrimination on the basis of gender identity and sexual orientation are processed and evaluated as complaints of discrimination on the basis of sex.”

As with all its other expansions of “sex” discrimination in federal law, the administration has proffered the U.S. Supreme Court’s Bostock v. Clayton County opinion extending workplace discrimination protections under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act to gay and transgender employees, as justification for its new interpretation of “sex” discrimination in the Food and Nutrition Act and school lunch program.

This doesn’t come as much of a surprise for anyone who remembers that on Day One his presidency, Joe Biden issued an executive order on sexual orientation and gender identity discrimination making clear that every federal agency was going to toe the line on a new sexual orthodoxy, and cited Bostock as support.

But as I’ve written and publicly testified, the White House has gone far afield of the court’s ruling, expanding it beyond what the justices stated clearly in the opinion was limited to Title VII only.

Even major media outlets, such as USA Today’s “fact check,” were forced to admit that Biden’s executive order called for a “broader application of last year’s Supreme Court Bostock v. Clayton County ruling.”

The Food and Nutrition Act and SNAP programs—administered by the USDA—provide nutrition assistance to eligible, low-income individuals and households via monthly benefits on an electronic payment card—similar to a debit card—which can be used at stores to purchase food.

The Food and Nutrition Act also establishes the National School Lunch Program, which is administered by state agencies that receive federal funding through the USDA and then enter into agreements with individual schools to provide that funding. The school lunch program services over 21 million needy school children every day—children who rely on it in order to have breakfast, lunch, or both.

Approximately 100,000 public and private schools, and even some residential child care facilities, receive federal funding to provide subsidized free or reduced-price meals for qualifying children.

But now, a school’s failure to adhere to “gender identity” anti-discrimination policies and open restrooms, locker rooms, or sports teams to those professing to be the opposite sex will put their federal nutrition assistance funding at risk.

That means that needy kids—no matter their sexual orientation or gender identity—might have to go without meals at school.

The USDA has even made clear that “there will not be a grace period for accepting and processing discrimination complaints based on sexual orientation and gender identity in [Food and Nutrition Service] programs.”

It has allowed participating schools extra time to order and display required lunchroom posters and update their nondiscrimination policies—as long as they can demonstrate efforts taken to comply with the guidance provided before the USDA issues a finding of “noncompliance.”

With the ramping up of gender identitarianism in public education and the consistent push to make disciples of the church of transgender, is it any wonder that, for example, middle school students are now being named in Title IX complaints for not using a fellow student’s “preferred pronouns”? Or that seven states now require the teaching of LGBTQ-specific topics in school? Or that a teacher in Massachusetts is introducing kindergarteners to concepts like transgenderism and gender queer—but not fully defining them because that is apparently just “too much” for kindergartners? (Please. Spare us your sanctimonious reluctance.)

While the release of the Title IX rule is anticipated later this month, USDA has stated that additional guidance on timelines and implementation is forthcoming.

The Biden administration’s weaponization of federal law—whether Title IX, the Food and Nutrition Act, or other things—to strong-arm American schools, students, and families into compliance with its gender-fluid policies appears to be far from over.

Mainstream Media Finally Recognizes There Might Be Something Wrong With Child Sex Changes

Estimated Reading Time: 3 minutes
  • Legacy media outlets published several articles this week criticizing sex change treatments for transgender children.
  • One transgender individual told the Daily Caller News Foundation that the media is opening up to critical perspectives because reporters are discovering that transgender medicine is experimental.
  • A New York Times columnist predicted that in the near future, both liberals and conservatives would view child sex change procedures as a politically-motivated medical scandal.

Mainstream media outlets are publishing articles challenging the “gender-affirming” method of medical treatment for transgender children, which emphasizes speedy biomedical intervention over psychotherapy.

“As more reporters investigate the motives of legislators, I’m sure they’re discovering that pediatric transition is experimental medicine and that some regulatory framework is needed when children are involved,” Corinna Cohn, who identifies as a transgender woman and wrote a Washington Post op-ed expressing regret over receiving a sex change surgery at 19, told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times and The New York Times each published articles Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday respectively on the sudden, sharp uptick in transgenderism in young people and the speed with which medical practitioners give them irreversible treatments such as puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgeries.

Cohn pointed to increased exposure to the issue of childhood transitions and conservative efforts to regulate the procedures to account for the media opening up to more critical perspectives on sex change procedures.

“Professionals who set the standards of care for pediatric transition are becoming more cautious due to a lack of evidence in the efficacy of the treatments,” Cohn told the DCNF. “For example, the Swedish Karolinska Hospital which pioneered pediatric gender transition has decided to discontinue prescribing hormone blockers and cross-sex hormones as a standard practic

Cancel Culture Is Helping Marxists Achieve Their Revolution in the West Without the Bloodshed

Estimated Reading Time: 3 minutes

Cancel culture is sometimes mistaken as the central problem in the life of the West. This happens, I have noticed, more among our U.K. cousins than stateside. Cancel culture, however, is merely a tool, the enforcement mechanism with which the woke left retains the cultural territory it has conquered.

The central problem facing citizens of Western countries is that a very hardcore, Marxian left has scored significant victories in its steady march toward the takeover of cultural institutions. This is a strategy first thought up by an Italian, Antonio Gramsci, who co-founded Italy’s Communist Party in 1921.

Gramsci taught Marxists that, to achieve Karl Marx’s goal of abolishing private property, the family, the church, and the nation-state, they did not need the bloody revolution that Marx had also called for. In Western countries, with their rich civil societies, it was better to infiltrate the cultural institutions, take them over, and indoctrinate the people into abandoning their love for the family, nation, etc., which Gramsci called “false consciousness.”

Indoctrination would raise their consciousness. This led to struggle sessions, which had harrowing results from China to the fields of Cambodia to the West in the 21st century.

Marxism needed coercion, despotism, and outright terror from the start, and Marx called for all three. In 1948, Marx spelled this out in his essay “The Victory of the Counter-Revolution in Vienna,” where he wrote, “There is only one way in which the murderous death agonies of the old society and the bloody birth throes of the new society can be shortened, simplified and concentrated, and that way is revolutionary terror.”

In our Western societies, state coercion of free speech must be presented in less truculent a fashion. This is why Herbert Marcuse, the Frankfurt School neo-Marxist who did so much to promote critical theory and the sexual revolution in the United States, came out with something called—we kid not—“Repressive Tolerance.”

In a 1969 essay by that name, Marcuse wrote that “In this society … false consciousness has become the general consciousness—from the government down to its last objects. The small and powerless minorities which struggle against the false consciousness and its beneficiaries must be helped: their continued existence is more important than the preservation of abused rights and liberties which grant constitutional powers to those who oppress these minorities.”

Marcuse then called for the “withdrawal of tolerance from regressive movements before they can become active; intolerance even toward thought, opinion, and word, and finally, intolerance in the opposite direction, that is, toward the self-styled conservatives, to the political Right—these anti-democratic notions respond to the actual development of the democratic society which has destroyed the basis for universal tolerance.”

That was canceled culture in its germinal stage. What it does is prevent the retaking of the ground lost to the left.

That doesn’t mean it is less of a danger. When people’s lives are canceled, they can lose their freedom of expression, their ability to make a living, and sometimes even their friends. When you have been totally canceled, Franz Kafka becomes your best friend, for only that turn-of-the-20th-century master of the absurd can make sense of your henceforth Kafkaesque existence.

That this fate can lurk around the corner in the free West is something that should concern us all and give us the encouragement we need to fight cancel culture in every way we can. We should expose it for what it is, decry it when it happens, and also summon the courage not to repeat a lie because saying the truth may result in our own canceling.

An area where people have become very cautious of late has been transgender issues. To say that a person can never become a woman, and vice versa, can get you thrown out of polite society, virtual or physical. And yet, most of us know that no matter how many puberty blockers a person takes, or how many healthy organs are mutilated, a man cannot menstruate, conceive, etc.

Indeed, Twitter this week suspended the account of The Babylon Bee, a very popular satirical website that has 1.3 million followers because it gave a transgender man who is a Biden administration official its Man of the Year Award.

The transgender issue is smack in the middle of the culture wars in America. There are many willing to take a stand and say, “No, I won’t live by lies.” Cancel culture is the left’s instrument to force them to do so.
